Where will be another newer one in 6-8 months with juat fasyer ram so I not in an hurry for this. Not that an ipad is the best choice fora laptop given the price
6-8 months? This one released 11 months after the iPad one. Fasyer ram sounds sexy, so I'd totally buy it. The iPad is a tablet, not a laptop so its not exactly a productive choice for a laptop.
the ipad has 4:3 because it just plain SUCKS to hold a 16:9 tablet in portrait mode.
after 30 minutes of holding the xoom in portrait mode it feels like a fucking sword or some other heavy shit
it's not really about how it "feels" because honestly all tablets, regardless of shape, "feel" unnatural regardless.
but it's about the content, and a wider resolution/aspect would be better for multi-media, which is actually something Apple boasted about with the first one. wider aspect ratios tend to be (but are not always) better for a lot of shit. especially watching videos, including games, even web browsing.

think i'm going to sell my macbook now as well actually.
unless you have another traditional computer i really would not advise selling your macbook
[editline]5th March 2011[/editline]
also no tablet is a suitable choice for a laptop. not even a netbook. a laptop is a suitable choice for a laptop. you can't replace a pocket watch with a stop watch just because they both indicate time.

I have a home computer, my laptop is currently only used for taking notes in class really. I used to play WoW and some other games on it but those days have passed. I'm comfortable in ditching it at this point if I get an iPad2.

If you were to still be using it to take notes, the laptop is better. Touch screens aren't great for typing on.
I have a new Facepunch stalker, Dirtydeagle is rating everything I post 'Dumb'.

I think it mostly depends how you take notes. For me I find that I never actually used my notes when I was studying so something like this:

Works much, much better for myself, which coincidentally the iPad is also very good at creating.

Wow. That looks amazing! It's just enough key points to jog your memory. And it flows really nicely to tie the whole thing together.
I think I might have to try this. That looks damn good.
I've been using sound note, to record lecture and take notes... But I found that I hadn't been using it effectively.
I'd buy the keyboard for it
One of the things that I recently 'found out.'
Apple are really cheap. I bought the Eee Slate, for example. It came with a leather case and keyboard. For free.
Meanwhile you buy the iPad and it comes with nothing. The leather case is 80 bucks and a keyboard is 70.

The program i use is called iThoughts, it was a bit on the pricy side iirc ($10, i just checked), but for me it was well worth the cost because it works much better than any other technique i have tried before.

The Eee slate is also almost $1000, the iPad starts at half that.

The Eee Slate also has 64GB SSD, an i5, and 4GB of DDR3 RAM... and a Wacom Digitizer + Stylus... and the case, and the keyboard, and Windows 7, etc.
It's easily worth the 1000. Whereas the iPad isn't really worth the 500 in my opinion.
Why does the Eee Slate have a 64gb ssd, and i5, and 4gb of DDR3 RAM with a wacom digitizer + stylus, a keyboard? well for one it's running windows 7...... what the hell do you need that for? damn that "slate" sounds more like a laptop with the keyboard detached and included as a bonus accessory. I'd rather buy a regular laptop with twice the capacity ssd, an i7 and the same amount of ram for the same price if I wanted windows 7. simple is the new powerful and I think we will see current OS's like OS X and windows surpassed buy FUTURE versions of Android, iOS, and even WebOS or Chrome OS.

I don't think so.
Windows 8/OSX whatever Lion are more likely to integrate touchscreens better than the mobiles OS' will be at integrating desktop software in a useful way.
People who are saying other tablets are better because they do/have x and x, are underestimating the importance of design. There were a fuckton of tablet pcs before the iPad, but they never took off because they didn't have the practical design and ease of use that the iPad had.
Specs and features are nice and all for desktops, but when your're designing a high-portability device like a tablet, you need well... design.. A lot Apple's competitors know diddly-dick when it comes to practical design, they just throw in as many high-specs and features they can and hope for the best. Case in point the Galaxy's 16:9, nice for movies, but it's just god-awful to hold, what the hell were they thinking
when I said surpassed by future versions I meant like in ten years from now. the sales of mobile devices is way way higher then the sales of any desktops anymore. I just think that the computer industry is about change drastically. who will need a desktop anymore when in 10 years what we know as tablets today will be able to do every thing and more in your hands. Especially if Thunderbolt (Light peak) really takes and evolves, we may be able to see an omni port/ports that would let you only need like two cables for your device.
my guess is that the next iteration of the iPad will be something to add to the lineup, and not necessarily replace the iPad 2.

but the ipad has a 10 hour battery and the eee slate only gets half that
No, he doesn't, actually. You just think it's a lovely video because you already had the same opinion prior to watching it.
The Eee gets 3-4 hours which is why I returned it.
Invested in an HP Slate instead. 5 hours, Windows 7, 2GB RAM, 1.86GHz Atom. 800 bucks.

why return a crap tablet for another? Theres a reason the iPad is selling extraordinarily well and it's not because of Apple's marketing.
Also by the looks of it the iPad2 will have a faster processor than what you paid 800 dollars for. Not to mention it will be significantly faster because iOS is far less demanding than W7 and when you're dealing with relatively low power tablet specs, thats very important.

But there is the entire problem that you aren't dealing with a computer OS, you're dealing with a giant cell phone OS. I have a netbook with the same specs as that HP slate, and it runs without a hitch. I would never use my netbook if I was on iOS, or even Android. A real computer OS is much better than a locked down mobile OS in most situations.

On the other hand, I get a full-featured desktop OS, Flash, Chrome/Firefox, pen + digitizer, proper notifications, millions of programs out there, stereo speakers, proper multitasking, proper networking, USB and SD ports, media compatibility with VLC, not having to use fucking iTunes, Skype, Steam, Office, customizability, Windows 8, etc. etc.
Calling the Eee Slate/HP Slate crappy tablets instantly invalidates whatever point you're trying to make. They may not be as user-friendly but the iPad can't begin to imagine this level of functionality.

that's all nice and stuff but Apple will never expand iOS to a level of OSX because if they produce OSX on the iPad there'd be no reason for your average consumer to buy MacBooks.
I am willing to bet that the iPad would get less then 2 hours battery life if it ran OSX.
I am willing to bet that the iPad would get less then 2 hours battery life if it ran OSX.
It'll probably get around ~5, but performance would be bad.

One extra hour :toot:
One extra hour :toot:
Well the Eee gets more like 2.5-3 hours with regular use. On Balanced.
The HP gets 5+ hours on high performance, maximum brightness.
Twice the battery life, higher brightness.
Has no-one bought one yet?
Has no-one bought one yet?
It doesn't bring much new to the game, so I guess it'll be some time.
