Has no-one bought one yet?
I ordered two of them, one for myself and one for my father. We sold both of our first gen iPad's for $400 a few days before the announcement, so we jumped on getting 2 brand new iPads for ~$250.
My mom ordered one this morning. I personally think that it's a waste of money considering what hardware $500 can buy, but the money is spent, and I might as well use it if we have it.
My friend and I are getting an iPad 2 this weekend, and I don't know why but the minute I saw GarageBand on the app store I bought it.

That's awesome. I should become a professional line-sitter.
My friend got the iPad 2 today from Best Buy, and he said there was barely a line. I'm getting mine tomorrow so I hope they have some black 32gb models left. He also said that it's awesome and the Smart Case is really nice (he got the PU instead of leather). The person who bought first spot in line wasn't too crazy, he was leaving on a business trip in the evening and needed the tablet as soon as possible.

He should have bought a Slate or Eee slate.

All the places near me are sold out, the local mall near me literally had like a 1000 people in line.
whoa :flashfact:
Verizon Wireless, Best Buy, and Best Buy Mobile were all out of stock for the iPad 2 (Best Buy only had 16GB Wifi + 3G models left but no one wants those). :smith: Looks like I'll be ordering online from Apple and suffering the 3-4 week wait.
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10880103/pics/a5.png[/img_thumb] whoa :flashfact:
That's pretty impressive - and I definetily didn't see that coming. But let's take it with a grain of salt, there's a thing called bottleneck and optimization for benchmarks. Let's take it with a grain of salt till we see some actual game performance.
Here we go.
Here we go. [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/cha-ching.png[/img_thumb]
That camera dongle is just asking to be snapped off. Its a component that should be inside the iPad. But hey, Apple can get filthy rich from accessories.
is the leather necessary? the color will rub off on all the bend points just like any leather wallet
For the camera kit, I tried one on a trip to Washington D.C. on a friends iPad and they work well (it's durable); I wanted to get one for when I'm away on vacation or whatever. As for the leather case, I didn't like the colors for the polyurethane cases and the red looks and feels nice, Apple also gives a portion of money from the red cases to the Gobal Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. I was thinking about a 3G iPad but I changed my mind, and with the money I didn't spend on 3G, I used for the accessories. On a random note, can I attach a MIDI Keyboard (88 keys) to Garageband in any way? If so I am gonna buy an iPad 2 right now.
Well, I've seen people use the camera connection kit (USB connector) to hook up a MIDI keyboard and use it on different apps, but I haven't seen it on GarageBand yet. What I have seen is a MIDI guitar on GarageBand, though.
If I'm gonna pay £650 for something I'd want it to be delivered this side of easter!!
Anyone try buying one lately? All the places around me are still sold out. They get maybe like 10-15 in stock everyday but those sell out in the morning.

Hmmm, the 2002 tablet actualy looks nicer, in a sort of utilitarian way. It's running a real OS aswell!
the iPad runs a real os as well, if you can accept anything other than Windows as being real.
the iPad runs a real os as well, if you can accept anything other than Windows as being real.
If it has a proper file system. I consider it a "real" OS. [editline]19th March 2011[/editline] Atleast Windows XP uses all of the screen space available properly on that tablet.
that's about the only thing it does well, take up space. proper file system my ass, I consider a "real OS" to be an operating that does what it is supposed to do and does it well, thus iOS is a "real OS" as it seeks to be different from other "complicated" and yet retains some power and provides a user-friendly tablet experience. I also consider Windows to be a "real OS" even though I don't like it but that's just me. while I'm at it: Can someone please tell me why people feel the need to compare the specs of apple products compared to those of non apple products. take the Motorola Xoom for example; on paper a beast of a machine with a dual core 1ghz processor by nvidia, 1gb of ram and honeycomb. Compare that to the iPad 2 with it's A5 1ghz dual core system on a chip, and only 512Mb of ram, and iOS 4.3, yet the iPad maneges to do even the simplest of things with more than twice the speed of the Xoom. Take for example the orientation switching from landscape to portrait and back, the iPad is seemingly precognitive while the Xoom takes 2 seconds or more. the cameras on the iPad 2 suck when compared to the xoom's on paper, yet recorded video looks a lot better on the iPad with more vibrant colors and slightly more smooth playback. is it not possible that what apple skimps on in hardware, they make up for with software optimization and the end user experience?
Theres a difference between simply taking up space and utilising it efficiently. The iPad just seems to space everything out to justify the larger screen.

[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/KXeRq.png[/img_thumb]
The iPad's OS (iOS) is more than real. At least, according to the definition of operating system..
I consider a "real OS" to be an operating that does what it is supposed to do and does it well
Ok, let's dissect this: Browsing: is a joke. No Flash means you're fucked out of experiencing the full web. Not to mention it's slow as shit compared to, say, Chrome or Firefox. Email: my folders won't show up properly for my Gmail account. Crashes all the time if you have like 3+ email accounts. Thunderbird on the other hand has never crashed for me. Photos: the only thing it does right. Video: on a 4:3 screen, is another joke. Not to mention the thing only supports like 3 different formats. VLC supports pretty much everything, on the other hand. AND you don't have to deal with iTunes. Music: same as videos, you have to deal with iTunes and it doesn't support all the formats out there. You can't download music right onto your device having acquired the music from another site like Amazon without having to sync the thing with iTunes first. Its dependence on a full OS is what stops it from being an real OS itself. Games: has its fair share of games. But it still doesn't have Flash, so kiss those hundreds of thousands of games spanning over a decade goodbye. eBooks: who fucking cares No, it's not a real OS. Multitasking isn't done properly either. Not even the Xoom does it right. On a screen that large, having a primitive app switcher is kind of pathetic. Having several windows open side by side, however...
interesting, you can get what appears to be iPads for a discounted price from att. http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phones/cell-phones.jsp?feacondition=allphones&feaavailable=allphones&feapaytype=standard&startFilter=false&typcat2450038=cat2450038&allFeatures=on&allManus=on#fbid=52oGnlpPQN0 you have to buy the data plan, but you'd be buying one anyways if you're getting a 3g model.
