Hopefully I'll own one in the next three weeks, phi kappa phi discount takes $250 off, as well as the standard free iPod Touch.
If I had that much money I'd get some guy to decompile some games (pay him tons) for me and make them work with cluster computing, then get 18 monitors and 18 hardcore computers.
I really think you can do better than a mbp.
the ram is tempting, but that's really it's only unique/superior feature.
I dream to have an entire wall of my room consist of monitors
no, wait, EVERY WALL.
THEN MY DESKTOP IS MY WALLPAPER, IT'S GENIUS

Home-built computer with GTX295 SLi, Core i7 975, some high end ASUS mb, Antec 1200, something like Corsair HX1000W, 4 256 SSD's in RAID 0.
Can you get triple head just with two video cards or do you need matrox's over priced thingy.
My dream machine, under 2k as well, this would serve me for a long time:

Okay then find me a laptop with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9900, a 17" LED backlit display with an extremely high color gamut, 4GB DDR3, and an aluminum Unibody case and all under 6.6lbs.
Just throwing it out there, Alienware's lightest 17" is 11.68lbs, Asus's lightest 17" is 9.3lbs, Gateways lightest 17" is 9.05lbs and HP's lightest 17" is 7.6lbs.
You get more than just a name with an Apple laptop.
This is still the best laptop

5.4kg (12 pounds) is hardly a laptop lol. After seeing the benchmarks of Farcry 2 with a GTX280m SLI chip set and only achieving 30FPS at 1920x1200 it pretty much sets laptop gaming at that level to a joke.
Hey retards iPhone = same brand as iMac
a good product made alot worse by apple's need to control everything.

by do better I meant a better deal. I just think that $2500 is too much to pay for that. I also just have certain principles that stop me from buying from a company that advertises or operates the way they do. but that's me.
I just think getting almost anything form apple is overpaying.
now in some ways you are right, there isn't much else like the mbp atm. in fact, the closest I could find would be this;
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117832
which only has ddr2 ram and a much worse processor. in fact the only thing it has over the mbp is the screen quality, because it uses an rgb led screen.
but it is a much better laptop for what you pay. while the mbp, is not quite worth it's price tag imo.

I doubt that sony has a better picture quality than the Apple, I've yet to see a display in person besides an Eizo display that beats the high end apple display line.
For me spending the extra on the apple to get the features, the power and the overall build quality is well worth it, In my price bracket the Apple is the best choice. I'm not going to compromise on the laptop I'll use for the next 4 years to save a few dollars on the upfront.

rgb led. this means that each pixel is made of three extremely small leds, so it is almost impossible to have color inaccuracies(unless of course the led's themselves are messed up), because the color doesn't rely on the backlight, the color IS the backlight.
Pfft, that's nothing, I want to see sentient computers. :science:
