Not sure if this has already been posted, but the workaround for distorted colors in Age of Empires 2 and most likely AOE 1 is to alt-tab out of the game after starting it and end explorer.exe. It's been a problem since Vista IIRC.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 works flawlessly for me on a 64bit Windows 8 platform.
Windowed and full screen. That's through Origin though.
