Incompetent cunts. Thanks for the info, though.
Now I don't know what to do, enable automatic updates and risk MS breaking my system or disable it and risk other huge security problems?

I used to do this

Action Centre just alerts you when you have updates pending

Same, except I just use the "check but let me choose to download/install" option instead.
Is there a good tiling software for windows that supports dual monitors?
Not familiar with more traditional tiling WMs on Windows, but Divvy is nice. Commercial, but the trial isn't restricted in functionality or time, it just has a nag screen when you run it (which should only be when you start Windows anyway).

I've just been using AHK scripts for this type of thing

Just bought a windows 8.1 tablet, really looking forward to messing around with this.

Even though my Drive folder is on my secondary HDD...thanks Google for doing something Windows is supposed to do but doesn't even when the SSD it's installed on is literally within kilobytes of being full.

Hey, thanks Win-oh wait a second, now Google's the one actively bothering me about low space instead of Windows as it should? Well...thanks, Google?
How much space is left on the HDD? It could be that Windows and Google Drive have different thresholds.
Here's some references for Windows itself:

Oh damnit Sinofsky, no wonder the things won't even appear in the first place when my SSD runs severely low. Of course he had the shell team screw with that.
In your opinions, what do you think is better for gaming :v:?
Windows 7
Windows 8.1
Windows 10

Windows 10 has problems with a lot of games right now if I remember correctly, with a bunch not running. It'll probably all be fixed before long though. It does have a few little game bits that are cool, though. You can record in-game footage really easily. It's got DX12, which they say makes a difference but we haven't really seen it yet.
8 is definitely better than 7 for games, as the guy above me said.

You can't consider bugs for games in an unfinished os
Every time the game crashes, eventlogs are sent
When it's ready though, I reckon 10 will be the one to invest in.
Seeing the presentations for it last year I think it's safe to say that they're trying harder, and almost acknowledging that they fucked up something in 8 that some users got hit with
I'm not sure how exactly 8.1 is better for gaming than 7 considering all benchmarks show that 8.1 and 7 are just as fast as each other with the exception of 8 having a faster boot time (only because of the hybrid boot), but 10 is really iffy at the moment.

8 & 8.1 absolutely destroyed compatibility with older games, like Tiberian Sun or Red Alert, because of some color mode thing. They require some awful workarounds, so if you're playing those I'd recommend 7.
You can get around this with a virtual machine if it's games like Diablo 2.
Worked absolutely fine.
Vm's are a sucky way to deal with those problems
They're a lot better than they used to be. I used to play hearthstone in a VM.

Crashday barely works on a good day.
It's multiplayer part are designed so it only works with windows XP.

Odd, I had better experiences with those games because 8 improved support for old colour modes.
has anyone used litestep? If so how is it?

8 wrecked support for directdraw or something iirc.

Oh yeah GDI was pretty gimped in 8, but I think there's fixes for it.

One that reminds me of little cunts that break their DarkRP and then report issues saying it doesn't work.
Might as well replace that text with "GENERIC WINDOWS UPDATE, CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO".

At least it offers more information.

All doesn't matter, apparently I can't install the update because of that one update that fucked everything up. I'm now running sfc /scannow.
edit: which couldn't repair some of the corrupted files apparently.
Now running Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
The automatic repair tool chain grows.
edit: didn't fucking work. I'm starting to think my SSD is fucked.
The #Windows IRC channel CATEGORICALLY denies that Microsoft can do anything wrong:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/BayxQzD.png[/t]
Edit:
I've solved the vicious cycle I was in (I think). Seriously, it's retarded:
Windows update didn't work because some Windows files were corrupted (by Windows update)
sfc /scannow should fix corrupted windows files, but it couldn't work because the versions of these files in the "storage" was also corrupted.
DISM should then fix that storage by downloading them from Windows update. The problem being that Windows update was broken.
Solution:
Download Windows ISO
Extract corrupted files from install.esd (sfc /scannow luckily does tell you which files are corrupted in the logs)
Restart in Linux
Manually replace .dll and .sys files.
Never fucking mind the piece of shit still doesn't install updates.

Windows was unable to refresh your PC. No changes were made

YOU GOD DAMN PIECE OF SHIT MOTHERFUCKING INCOMPETENT RETARDS HOW DOES THIS PIECE OF SHIT SOFTWARE EVEN START
Edit:
Right, starting the refresh from Windows itself instead of the USB stick did work, because bananas. I hope I can at least update now.

"You may need to restart your PC after installing this update."
"may"? Why the hell not just call it "You'll likely have to restart your PC after installing this update", since I've seen maybe only one or two updates that didn't require a reboot yet it had that disclaimer.

I've gotten plenty of updates that don't require restarts
I've gotten plenty of updates that don't require restarts
Yet have that same notice too?
[editline]24th May 2015[/editline]
Hm, well more often than not they're not "may", it's "you will". Maybe it's because I just install batches at a time but whatever.
