Drive places a bunch of shit in the temp folder no matter where you store the files. It's stupid.
Just found two 150 mb sync_log files in AppData\Local\Google\Drive and AppData\Local\Google\Drive\user_default Wonder what this is all about. [editline]26th May 2015[/editline] And they're full of nothing but this
IpcConnectionThread-None-3 common.persistence.sqlite:277 Open master connection to ...\Drive\user_default\sync_config.db IpcConnectionThread-None-3 common.persistence.sqlite:379 Close connection. path= ...\Drive\user_default\sync_config.db

has anyone used litestep? If so how is it?
I used to use it on and off every now and then. The novelty quickly wears off once you realise that explorer does everything pretty much better out of the box. (x64 support is still a pain) If someone made a very simple litestep setup that was just the launcher and which you could use together with explorer, I'd consider it again.
Computer clearly needs a refresh Which is a pain knowing that 10 is only around the corner Added to the fact I now have an SSD to install to, What's the best way to handle install paths and documents so they don't clog up the solid state? It's 223GB
Anyone knnow how to disable "high volumes can prevent hearing loss" when turning the volume up above 42? This gets so annoying.
Wrong thread lmao
You can get around this with a virtual machine if it's games like Diablo 2. Worked absolutely fine.
Diablo 2 works absolutely fine without a VM on Windows 8.1 and 10 though?
If I have issues alt+tabbing between games and other stuff chances are I'll just set the game to fullscreen borderless so said issues disappear.
If I have issues alt+tabbing between games and other stuff chances are I'll just set the game to fullscreen borderless so said issues disappear.
I finally figured out that you can set the task manager to be always on top, so sometimes when a game will completely fuck up and I cant get task manager to the top, this solved that problem :v:
If I can't weasel my way to Task Manager, I just remember alt+O+A to toggle the always on top option. I usually hate having it on top. If for whatever reason it still won't come on top after trying that combo, chances are I'm fucked anyway and would need to hit the reset button.
What I tend to do is have Task Manager focused, then use the peek function to see it and navigate around with the keyboard. Failing that, I can usually get to the search box on the start menu to use taskkill.exe. Most of the time process names are easy to guess.
If mouse focus can leave the game, I have two extra taskbars to right click the window entry and move the window. Moving it once with a keyboard snaps the mouse to it, so it can then be moved with a hand, onto another screen where the application van be killed
The first payload of the Get Windows 10-related updates detonated today for Windows 7 and 8 users, retoasting from the Win10 thread:
I just got this pop up in my system tray on Windows 7. [t]http://i60.tinypic.com/2q3994p.jpg[/t]
Also the AskWoody MS-DEFCON level was brought all the way down to 5 earlier today.
They're really trying to get people to switch
Really thought I could multiuser a machine with windows via remote desktop Guess I interpreted last years lectures wrong [t]http://7proxies.pw/i/2015/06/15-06-01_19-49-38.png[/t]
There did used to be a reg key that would enable that, technically though it's a feature of the more enterprise focused editions
There did used to be a reg key that would enable that, technically though it's a feature of the more enterprise focused editions
Yeah, I've read about versions if Windows, and experiments where they get five students running independent workstations on one computer. Only working from a surface pro, so I'm not expecting the world

Is it okay to ask for troubleshooting advice here? Preferably would like to not have to create it's own thread for it, even though it's a bit of an complicated issue. So, I recently upgraded my computer, with new motherboard, cpu, ram, case. But the HDDs (1 mechanical, 2 ssds), graphics card and the rest I still have. Anyway, I figured I didn't need to reinstall my Windows just because I'm changing parts, sure a lot of parts but yeah. Anyway, so when I booted it up and all, windows just keeps BSODing, and restarting itself before I can see the error code. To change that, I have to get into windows which is the problem, I can't at all. I thought I had my Windows 7 dvd somewhere, but couldn't find it, nor do I have an usb-stick with enough total space to get it by USB install. So I decided to go over the network, PXE. I connected an ethernet cable from my laptop to the newly upgraded/built computer. I got Serva on the laptop end, hosting a DHCP server and a TFTP server. So, when my big computer starts to load/find an PXE server, it asks for an IP, but never completes the whole DHCP check, and then it loops over 2 times and gives up. Here is a link for a pic of the log I tried putting a router inbetween for it to be the DHCP server but then the desktop computer never gets an IP either, only my laptop is in the client list. I even tried manually setting the desktop's MAC address to a static IP(in the routers DHCP settings), still no difference. Any help with this would be awesome, I know it's not much related to windows but it's what I'm trying to install so.

Windows loves doing this for whatever reason. Luckily, SevenForums has a tutorial on making things bootable after carrying out a motherboard swap. Save yourself the headache of trying to reinstall over LAN.

Save yourself the headache of trying to reinstall over LAN.
Well, I got the network install to work. The only problem is that my new motherboard uses UEFI for almost everything, and Windows 7 didn't like this, probably not in installed form or in the installer since I couldn't actually install it on any of my drives. So I decided I could just get Windows 8.1 instead and then it worked perfectly. But thanks for the link, I'll save it if I need it, or a friend runs in to the same problem.
I'm having an issue with my monitors. I just got a relatively new LG 21:9 monitor to take place as my main so I could replace an old CRT as a secondary monitor. I'm not sure what model exactly (I think it's the UM55 or UM57). It's hooked up through DisplayPort and I have an AOC as a secondary through HDMI. Whenever the monitors turn off, Windows seems to lose the fact that I have two monitors and shove all my programs onto one monitor. It seems like the LG is the problem. Any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it?
If one turns off before the other, even by a bit, windows will shove everything over to one monitor.
I've never had this issue before, though. Even with two monitors. When I had the AOC and CRT (and previously, a Samsung and the CRT), when they went off, everything was fine. It'd come back fully restored with no issues. It's just this LG and the AOC. And I've actually pinpointed it down to the LG monitor. I can turn the AOC off prematurely and the windows will keep their locations as long as I don't unplug the monitor. But when the LG gets turned off (via the power button or screensaver induced sleep), everything goes fucky.
The AskWoody MS-DEFCON level is now 2. I also went ahead and moved the May issues into a last month section, let me know if you hate it with a passion or like it.
If they haven't fixed the most basic screen scaling issues & complete lack of touch screen compatibility in desktop Skype before the cut they usable one loose, they can fuck right off.
Yeah the move makes no sense. I mean I don't totally hate using Windows 8 apps instead of desktop programs (in fact some I quite like), but the Skype app always sucked. But that app should just have been reworked as an universal app in Windows 10, not thrown out. It's not like the desktop app is good, it's just barely preferable.

The US Navy is still using Windows XP and Office 2003, and is now using your tax dollars to pay for the ultra-extended support contract: http://www.neowin.net/news/the-us-navy-has-a-windows-xp-problem
ffs its a waste of money that cash could be used to develop compatibility for windows 8 or even w10
They most likely use fuckexpensive software packages made by contractors that only works on XP for god knows why. And they also probably rock a customized WinXP install that suits their exact needs. They're sticking with a mess they know inside-out so they know how it works with their hardware and software, and how to deal with bugs so they don't become a critical problem. This means they're most likely buying time to literally scrutinize future windows versions and also to develop/discover new software and hardware combinations without nasty surprises in the field. Keep in mind the Military is so anal about this, that some nuclear silo's command centers store their launch commands on 8" floppies since their systems are from a age with simpler machines that used those floppy drives. http://defensesystems.com/articles/2014/04/29/af-8-inch-floppies-icbm-launch.aspx Imagine how some sysops are so goddamn afraid of switching to a new windows version because they rock exotic software? the military are MANY times more worried than those fellas.
