It should be pointing towards the rear, rotate it 90 degrees anti-clockwise, atleast that makes more sense to me than taking in air from around the hot graphics card and blowing it towards the PSU.
My mistake. I was confused, as the Noctua logo is upside down. I didn't notice he was on an AMD platform.
is it safe if the metal fins of a cpu cooler touch the metal ram heatsinks?
(for socket 1155)

yes
Damn the 7970 is huge.

If it would have been 1cm bigger it would not fit in the 912

Not my computer. It's my friends.
He bought one this early?
OH GOD WHY
He bought one this early?

He needed a card and facepunch told him to.
He also had the money. Not my problem.
The card is fine and it's a good value compared to the 580, but I would have waited just a few weeks since it's still running on really new drivers to keep headaches down during initial install.
Besides I thought you said he didn't even have his parts in, so the card wouldn't be used for a little bit. Does he have all his parts?

Yes. He's playing metro 2033 right now.
And i might have said wrong in my post.

No real need for anything else?
I gonna get the HD 7970 too unless nvidia comes out with kepler earlier.
No real need for anything else?
There are plenty of reason why one should not use a stock cooler:
more silent, cooler, more overclocking headroom
I gonna get the HD 7970 too unless nvidia comes out with kepler earlier.
It's still a few months off. Still worth waiting to find out if nVidia blows them away. I will be waiting till maxwell probly. My 570 will do just fine for awhile.

I'm just saying that some people don't need to make that move. I did... but some really don't. Besides, the temperature of the system is dependant on more than just a CPU über-cooler. My own case sucks major balls and as a consequence everything inside is roasting. But there are plenty out there that offer exceptional airflow. Stock coolers would suffice there.
It's actually what they're there to do... Suffice.
A good build starts with a good case.
This might be a stupid question but I know I saved this picture from facepunch many years ago. Anyone recognize this computer :v:

It says the image was taken 2006 but I don't know how right that is.

The gpu's were released in 2008 afaik

No gaps between the cards. Doesn't that equate lighting a fire inside it?
Another funny thing. That "rig" was a total beast in 2008. Now you can get equal computing power for like 499€. Nice...

Not always, a good way to prevent it is have a fan blowing at the cars via the side panel,or mounted onto the hard-drive cage.
They'll definitely get pretty hot regardless though.
I posted my computer a few pages back but I changed a couple parts and to make this post worthy me and my brother built a computer a few days ago. We had a thread in the PC building section so some of you may remember me.
This is my computer specs.

And the actual computer, I added more RAM and changed the cpu fan to the hyper 212 evo. Major improvement over the old Thermaltake Spinq, I was running near 55-60C full load at a 3.5ghz clock and now I am running at 51c max at a 3.8ghz clock. The Phenom II CPU tends to run hot though.

And finally.

The case is the NZXT Phantom 410.
I am planning to do a few upgrades to my computer in the near future, first a new case since my old one got into the hands of the TSA and they just wrecked it. They threw it around so hard my GPU was knocked out of the slot and my old CPU heatsink was bent. Surprised everything still works but it has been a year now.
