If you already have a desktop, why don't you just use that for gaming and you know, actually use the laptop how it was meant to be used and use it for work?
~$750USD http://redirectingat.com/?id=629X1198&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newegg.com%2FProduct%2FProduct.aspx%3FItem%3DN82E16834115592
My spending limit was the same as yours, but the specs on this made me change my mind. I haven't gotten it yet, but that's a mid-range class 2 graphics card meaning it packs some serious punch for it's price.
That's not always true. I got my laptop for $750 and let me list the specs:
- Core 2 Duo (2.0GHz)
- 4GB RAM
- 9600GS
It can run Crysis on Medium with a couple of options on high with little to no lag.
A $750 desktop can max crysis.
If you pay attention in school, why would you need a laptop for gaming when you could just wait until you get home?
And yes Donut is badass
I am paying attention in school. But Im not going to buy a laptop JUST for school when I could just pay a little more and have one I can use on long trips/at friends houses/In between classes to play freaking awesome games. :buddy: yes as by his post. he is. :P
I too have an Inspiron 1545, but I took the liberty in upgrading the processor to a P8600 and getting the ATI HD4330 instead of the Intel.
After trying out a bunch of stuff, here are my results basically.
Runs Splinter Cell Double Agent with all settings maxed at around 50 FPS.
Runs older Source games, such as HL2 and CSS at 100+.
Runs newer Source games such as Orange Box titles or L4D maxed without AA at a nice 60 or so FPS.
Runs FEAR and FEAR2 maxed out without AA, 50-60FPS.
But it goes way beyond your budget.
I just went to the site and tried my best at making one within the budget, but it's shitty. I was able to pop in a T6600 processor and the HD4330, but it still has 2GB of RAM, whereas I have 4GB, and a slower processor than mine.
Basically, go for ASUS or something.

I have a laptop this spec (Acer 6935g) and it runs gta4 medium/high flawlessly aswell as running Call of Duty 5 all on high off the battery for a hour at 1366x768 with no performance loss
Instead of investing the money into a laptop for gaming, why don't you pay attention in class instead? Your spelling and grammar are abysmal.
Anyway, if you're dead-set on doing this, check out www.toshiba.com, www.hp.com, and look at some of Dell's stuff again. I'm sure you can find something reasonably priced between them.
Stop being pussies, I love carrying around my 18.4 inch laptop, makes me feel like the boss :clint:
One strap bags are even worse. You put all the weight on one shoulder. Great way to mess up your back.
How about you just buy a good backpack with a laptop sleeve, that way you could lug around 25 pounds of goodies without breaking a sweat, or your back.
Y'all pussies need to grow a set of gonads and learn to lug your shit around. :v:

Lugging shit around at college is not fun. I would recommend a good backpack which can fit it or has a laptop compartment.

Yes. It is SO important to have the correct spelling on Facepunch. Its not like I was busy looking at like 10 other websites finding prices. And im not going to buy a laptop that cant play games. after schools over then what? I have a laptop that I have no use for.
Why not just buy a studio laptop instead of a "gaming" one? They're usually just as good or better AND cheaper.

Make sure you do a clean install of vista/windows 7 as the amount of crap that comes with it is unbelievable. I have a 3hrs battery life on that laptop on balanced and you can game on that power with windows 7 I think vista was lower at 1.30hrs on :crossarms:
OK. Should I just goolge for windows 7? and will windows 7 run all the games I want? Thanks for the help man.

There you go, just downlaod the windows 7 gpu drivers from ati's site. if it comes with a disc just install all the acer webcam/card read etc as windows vista drivers work in 7
[editline]10:15PM[/editline]
The gpu will defo run source very well. Just turn the res down slightly as it is a integrated 3200, I used the 3100 on a lower spec laptop and it ran tf2 at high/medium at 1024x768 which is a good resolution for that laptop but the 3200 is better so expect decent fps on recommended settings :buddy:

Oh and the sound quality of the speakers and its subwoofer is surprisingly good

Shit, no. That GPU is terrible (the 3200.)
I seriously doubt it's going to be sufficient, even for Source.

It'll run Source, probably not at Max settings though.
Source runs on Intel GPUs which are not nearly as good as 3200s.
