Oh god that made me laugh. You never need more than 4 or 6 GB of RAM for a regular gaming computer. My 8800GTX from 2 years ago outperforms your shitty GTS 240. You got so ripped off.
alienware laptops look pretty cool because you can choose some parts, though you always end paying a lot
but desktops are just a no for alienware

I just fucking lol'd.
Atleast you have an ugly, tacky case :v:
Why is it that these sheep who buy Alienware see 8+GB of RAM and think it's a dream machine? Yet you go and look at the GPU and it's not really that good. Like a few posts above someone has 12GB of RAM and a GTS 240, and a terrible Power Supply.
I built a good medium to high end PC lower than $1,000 and it can run every game I throw at it with either high settings or maxed out on 1680x1050 or 1920x1080.
Specs:
550w Power Supply
Intel Core 5200 Dual Core 2.5ghz (OC'd 2.8ghz)
4GB DDR2 Corsair RAM
Nvidia GTS 250 1GB DDR3 RAM (OC'd)

For the love of god, please tell me you do heavy 3d or video editing.
If not, I can't imagine how someone can be happy after overpaying so much.
Hell, that gpu isn't even any good.
Yes, I am aware my GPU is a piece of crap. I'm getting a new one. And Yes, I do do a lot of video editing. Also, If its so shitty, why can I play Crysis on max? except for 2 options, please elaborate.
And no, I know that more RAM does not always equal more speed. But it does allow me do have 20+ programs and windows open without lagging whatsoever, which I almost always do. Like having a DVD decrypter running while converting a video file while playing Garrys mod.

okay
low res
[editline]06:40PM[/editline]
and ability to play =/= decent FPS
I play it on 1440x900, the Native resolution of my monitor with no lag whatsoever.

You have no idea what you're talking about do you?
4GB of ram is enough to have 50+ processes running on your PC at once with no slow down. In fact, I have 59 processes running, Security essentials doing a quick scan, multiple firefox windows open on separate screens, and playing Episode 2 (1920x1080) with all of that using around 38% of my Ram.
My point: There is no need for 12GB of Ram.
And by you doing video editing is that simple standard editing of your WoW raids or Gmod videos? Because, I'm attending college in the fall for Digital Filmmaking and Video Production, and so far I've dealt with rendering HD video and such on my current machine with 4GB of Ram and it doesn't take very long to render short videos with my HD rendering preferences. I won't have to upgrade to 8+GB until I start school and render much longer videos.
I'm rockin my Aurora 7500, still serves me perfectly.
$3000 = rip off, but I get 20fps on Crysis, full settings. I don't mind.
Fixed that up for ya, buddy. :buddy:
I only paid about $300 or so more for my Aurora than what I could of put it together on newegg. The best thing to do is build on the very base model they've got out. With the ALX, and the Area 51's, you are paying for the case.
I have 90 processes running with a total of 22% Physical memory. This is on a slow day. And no, my video editing is not simple WoW Raids or Garry's Mod videos, its more like hour long videos I took for my school and some other 45 minutes ones me and my friends took.
Honestly, I love mine. Also, before you yell at me, I took all the parts I could find on Newegg that are in my computer and got $1378.98. That's not including the GPU, PSU, water cooling, keyboard, mouse, fans, motherboard, wireless card, or this badass looking case. And yes, it is an Aurora.
Specs:
Intel i7 920
GTS 240
12GB RAM
525W PSU
Sound Blaster X-Fi
Windows 7
Thats really it. I think its a pretty good buy fro $1600 including all the extra crap they through
I got an i7 920, GTX 295, EVGA X58, 6GB of 1600MHz RAM, X-Fi Elite Pro, and a 750w power supply for $1600 a little over a year ago.

From where, did you build it yourself or prebuilt?
From where, did you build it yourself or prebuilt?
Most likely he built it himself. Buying the parts, and putting it together yourself cuts out the middleman, thus you save an enormous amount of money and you know exactly what quality is being put into your machine.
Well this thread was greatly entertaining, watching these 13 year olds with their $3000 Alienwares that their daddy's bought them get ripped to shreds by people who know what they're talking about is some great fun.

Yes, I'm not trying to say that I have an amazing computer that is better than all of yours with a better deal. I'm trying to say that this is a better deal for an Alienware than some of the other ones I've heard about.

And we're trying to say "No" to the thread title. We aren't trying to make you feel like a horrible person for buying one. All we are saying is that you could get way more for way less. This isn't a scam. You really can get a better computer for less money. All it takes is not being lazy.
I know I could, but this was my first real computer, I'm still in my learning stages. I'm going to take apart and rebuild my old computer for practice. And I didn't even buy it, it was a birthday present from my parents because the last couple years sucked in those terms, and I needed something that could keep up with my school work and gaming.
Every pc I owned was custom buit. The first one was built for me, second one I built myself. It's really awfully easy. Just read the manual if you're beginner and you should be good to go.
Jesus Christ, is this thread a concentration camp for retards in the H&S section?
Dell makes good laptops, Gateway makes good laptops, and Sager makes good laptops.

I mean with Sager, for $1,500 you get a 15.6" LED backlit 1920x1080 display, an i7 720QM, a 5870M, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, 4GB DDR3 1066MHz, and a 320GB HDD.
Sager do make amazing laptops. I have an older NP5793, and it was about $1500 when I got it, and it has a matte 17" 1920x1200 display, a Core2Duo T9300 2.5ghz, a 9800M GTS, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB HDD.
Oh and a bluray drive.
why the fuck is my thread such a stupid thread >:/
