I'd like to have wireless internet in my dorm room, but all we've got is an ethernet port. I'm looking at routers to buy, so far I've got these:

Any advice or suggestions on if the extra price is worth it for the more expensive one here, or if there's a better value router I can get elsewhere?
Edit: I'm also going to have a roommate who will likely be using the internet as well. I think I'll be the only one doing any kind of heavy gaming though.

I would check to make sure that the university is okay with you adding a router to their network. Some university IT departments are very anal about that sort of thing.

It's allowed.

I would stick away from Trendnet. The TPLink is very nice, though there are cheaper ones that are still good. If you've got the budget go with the TPLink, if not something like the Archer C50 or ASUS RT-AC52U would be a fine unit.

Thanks! What would you say the big differences are between the C7 and the C50?
The C7 has more streams which you probably won't use and is slightly newer so it has a couple niche features iirc. A middle ground would be the C5. It has the newest AC features of the C7 with the specs of the C50, but they're both very good AC dual band routers.

There's also a big bandwidth difference though, right?
There's a difference in 5ghz bandwidth that only effects you if you have top end wireless gear that pretty much no phones or laptops have, or have a $70+ wireless adapter for a desktop. You're still getting more throughput than your internet connection can offer unless you've got more than like 500mbps
