The whole point is, if you're like me the first thing you do when you come home is put your phone and wallet at my desk. Instead of having to plug in the wire manually, I could just place it on that pad (in a place where I usually place it anyways). And it would charge, no need to plug it in yourself. Also easy to grab when you have to go out.

I think that's relevant. I'm just wondering what the advantages are.
I thought the point of the wireless chargers are that you can just lay whatever thing you wanted on the pad and it will charge.
Less wear and tear on the USB connection, for one. If you're charging it at your desk and get a call, you can just pick it up. I'd probably keep my phone charged more if all I had to do is set it on a pad, as lazy as that sounds. Apparently it's better to keep the charge level above 50%.
If you charge via cable you can actually hold the device (move it around) and use it while its charging.
I hate using my phone when it's on the charger.
I'd love a wireless charger, I may look into one.
