Redecorating my room soon, I was looking at desks on the ikea website and this one (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70116653/) looks quite nice, can anyone recommend it?
Looks like something you'd buy at Walmart, imo.
Hi there, What do you use to power the cold cathodes. Do you use a seperate power supply?
Oh you.
[editline]29th June 2012[/editline]
Well, I just spent the past few hours cleaning up and reorganizing everything.
Here was what it looked like before (sort of), when I last [del]shoved everything behind the camera[/del] cleaned up:

I wasn't very happy with where the PSU and gang plug were, and the wiring was an absolute mess, everything tangled.
This is what the cathodes look like at night in the dark (on my old setup)

However it quickly became very messy again, so I decided since summer has begun that I should sort it out.
Stage 1. Lots and lots of wires.

Sorting out the wiring for the cathodes. It was a huge mess before.

I should probably get some LEDs for numerous reasons but these will do for now.
A few hours and some Mr Sheen later....

Personally happy with the change.
Are everyone cheap bastards that only buy furniture from IKEA
Are everyone cheap bastards that only buy furniture from IKEA
IKEA has good stuff for the price
Are everyone cheap bastards that only buy furniture from IKEA
IKEA isnt cheap either.
Are everyone cheap bastards that only buy furniture from IKEA
Because custom-made furniture is so much better than IKEA...
IKEA isnt cheap either.
Cheaper than most. Outside furniture is like 3x more expensive.
Building own corner desk , going to take up 2m by 3m and +/- 85cm high and +/- 60cm deep.
Any [sp]good[/sp](extra) idea's?
Yes, check out the thread I made: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1200557

Feel free to ask any questions.

And generally not as nice.
I'd rather build my own desk than use ikea

That doesn't mean it's good

It's not amazing but it works
[editline]3rd August 2012[/editline]
I should really sort all that cable spaghetti at the back/side but there's nowhere to move the chair/desk, this room is only about 4mx5mx9ft :V
Also pardon the tasteless case
So I just put together a Vika Amon desk with the Vika Annefors from IKEA. Disappointed that the table top just sits on top of the legs rather than actually be attached. Can anyone with this desk tell me if they have had any problems or anything?
Here's a pic of it from the IKEA website:

Gorilla glue if you don't plan on moving the desk somewhere where you'd need to take it apart, if you can't do that then screw diagonally from the corners of the top of the legs into the bottom of the table top. Just make sure you get screws short enough that they won't go through, yet long enough to be secure.

Pretty neat, can it be used as an input device so you can have an mic and an iPod plugged in so you can play stuff over voip stuff without using virtual audio cable or something similar?

I don't think so, I think there is something with the wiring that would prevent that. Honestly I have no idea though and that's one of the disadvantages of being someone who just bought it for $10 off ebay versus actually building one.
Hi there, What do you use to power the cold cathodes. Do you use a seperate power supply?
Yeah, It's a separate 300w PSU I pulled from an old PC.
See the 4th pic.
I suppose since you can actually SEE the PSU in the 4th picture.....................

Nice gold lightbulb
I've been looking for one long desk that is a little over 90 inches in length. I'm thinking about getting two VIKA AMON 47 1/2 long table tops. I'm wondering how many legs I should buy for the table. I want to make it where I can sit in my chair and slide all the way to the other side without running into a leg in the middle. Would you guys think putting a leg in the back middle would support it?

The line in the middle will be where each table ends.

Seems like a good idea, but I wouldn't trust it with any weight if you just have that one joint
I'd do something like this

A longer, wider metal support and a small frame piece screwed into the tabletop and leg

Thanks! Seems like a much better idea! As you can tell I'm not so good at building stuff.

would still wobble with that, you would definitely need stretchers
