I got ~£9910 for the parts, from using results off Google Shopping. It's most probably way off, though. Someone else can go and do it perfectly if they want. The RAM was a bitch to find the price for, especially. I couldn't even find the right sticks with a price, so don't rage at me if I've got anything wrong. The hard drives turned out to be one hell of a lot of cash each. I didn't think they'd be so expensive, but apparently so. Oh, and the operating system is another £1800 or so on top of that. Like I said, if you have a better calculation/estimation/whatever, just say. But yeah, all I know is that it's a lot of cash for something pretty useless.
3.141592653589793238 <- as far as I go Fuck me, 96 gigs RAM :o Don't call me an idiot if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that use fucktonnes of electricity?
Oh Goddamn! I bet :20bux: that the next record will be ten trillion digits, calculated on a laptop. [editline]06:02PM[/editline] I better get working....
I assume the next record will be hold by a CUDE based setup with similar RAM. That might boost everything up again. I see the next 96 GB RAM Setup with 10 GTX 285 calculating Pi to 10 trillion digits.
It has already been pointed out that the most premise computations only need pi to about the 40th place So yes Bragging rights
Which is based off an assumption of why people are motivated to break world records to begin with. Might as well say every world record is a motivation to get bragging rights and then to say everyone below you sucks ass. It's not about making use of it in an engineering project on the worlds next longest bridge. Heck, what world records are really used to a significant advantage anyways? Nothing, except pure entertainment. The world would be a boring place without it. Why did Usain Bolt break the world record for the 100m, 200m, and 400m sprint? It's not like he's a narcissistic prick that does it just to wave his shiny huge cock all over the place.
I want to know how he payed for the bill?
Thats is a fucking perfect circle.
What are the individual sticks of RAM? What combination adds up to 96GB?
What are the individual sticks of RAM? What combination adds up to 96GB?
I think its 12 x 8gb sticks.
Holy shit i wish that was my server
The record will not be official until its inspected and verified right?
