I just learned that Windows 8 somehow has a magical ability to gracefully recover if the device its running from is removed.
I've unplugged SATA drives with Windows on them before, plugging it back in and waiting 10 minutes made it work again.
Anyone know how fix a usb3 stick not working in usb2 port?
Its working on my desktop but on my laptop it just wont get recognized and i even used it to install windows 7.
Whoa, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB MicroSDHC cards are like 0.50c per gigabyte now.
Nice, I am going to buy one for my phone now for sure.

How good are A-Data memory cards?
A-Data is great. I got some free DDR3-800 RAM back in the day when 667 512MB DDR3 wasn't widely available. Ended up getting 6 sticks of 1GB DDR3-800 back when no one used Win Xp X64. Frigging amazing ram. Overclocks pretty decent with no active cooling on a Q6600.

Mac book pro retina. Find someone that has a college .edu e-mail and purchase one for $1999.99.
Brand new laptop on it's way.
For college work, not gamig etc, so I got a relatively cheap one.
Well in wiping and updating my friend's laptop, it turns out HP introduced an illegal character in their somewhere in the SMBIOS data with one of their newer BIOSes, and WinSAT doesn't bother to sanitize the strings, so it tries writing these characters to an XML file and fails, thus the machine can never be rated. Now I'm stepping the BIOS back revision by revision until I get one that works.. I've already flashed 3 and no luck so far.
This might just be the dumbest thing I've ever had to fix.
Edit:
Of course HP doesn't host the revision this laptop came with in the first place so I had to go all the way back to trying a version even older than that, and the problem even happens there. Fuck you, HP.
Mod the bios to get rid of the string. But uh, don't mess up!

Because they're only people. They need rest, too.
Not everyone works on weekends

Meh. Zac, you think it's a good investment in getting some Fiber Intel nics and uplinking it to our EX4200 in Los Angeles? I bet you the tests will be awesome once our upstream upgrades nLayer to 10G =)
You could probably upload uncompressed 1080p video faster than I can upload it compressed.
How much does colocation usually cost for a 1u or a mid-tower?

That internet connection is faster than most cheap flashdrives :v:
I bet there's a 512MB cap on it lol

Because it's 2-4 business day.
If you ordered saturday service or weekend service it would come on the weekend. I pay extra for that usually on amazon.

That doesn't seem right. But my guess is simply that the tool is wildly inaccurate and it's more an issue of, it's so fast it's unextrapolatable.
I looked up CCNA and CCNP courses just out of curiosity.
More than $2000 and the actual exam costs $400 why what the fuck
I told my sister she'd be better off buying an iPhone last August, but here we are, a year later, and her Palm Pre 2 is chewing through data like nobody's business.
It goes through 400mb of data overnight, while connected to wifi (yes that's 400mb that's going through 3g while the phone is on wifi) randomly. She has no extra apps installed (because webOS has no worthwhile apps) and I made sure to set up and ensure the phone wasn't doing extra syncing over 3G.
Verizon also won't give us the IP it's connecting to so we can identify the problem.
So we hard capped her at 2GB of data (her limit because that's what $30 buys you in the land of the free) and I'm giving her my old Windows Phone to use until we can figure out a more permanent solution.
I mean, I told her she'd be happier with a different phone in the long run, and here we are - she wants a new phone!
Not sure if any of you guys know it (I only just found it out) but windows has it's own built in read speed tester for your hard disks.
It's rather simple.
Right click "Computer" > "Properties" > (sidebar) "Device Manager" > (expand) "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" > Right click whichever controller your HDD('s) is/are on > "Properties" > (Tab bar) Choose port of HDD > Click "Speed Test..."
I'm rather curious if anyone else knew about this.
Is it accurate?
I wouldn't really say so, It assumes my burst speed limit is 109MB/s whilst HDTune says it's 163MB/s
It states my average sustained speed is 100MB/s whilst HDTune says 116MB/s
On the plus side it does have a cool "Theoretical Limit" which is reading as 300MB/s for me. I guess that may be useful in some situations.
What do you mean "choose port of HDD tab" in the controller properties dialog box? I just have General, Driver, Details, and Resources tabs. If I had to benchmark a drive with just windows, I'd run
winsat disk
Here's my SATA2 SSD (G.Skill Phoenix Pro 120GB) results with that command:
> Disk Sequential 64.0 Read 225.86 MB/s 7.4
> Disk Random 16.0 Read 156.94 MB/s 7.5
> Responsiveness: Average IO Rate 0.61 ms/IO 7.9
> Responsiveness: Grouped IOs 8.28 units 7.5
> Responsiveness: Long IOs 1.46 units 7.9
> Responsiveness: Overall 12.05 units 7.9
> Responsiveness: PenaltyFactor 0.0
> Disk Sequential 64.0 Write 258.41 MB/s 7.5
> Average Read Time with Sequential Writes 0.236 ms 7.9
> Latency: 95th Percentile 0.728 ms 7.9
> Latency: Maximum 34.138 ms 7.9
> Average Read Time with Random Writes 0.315 ms 7.9
> Total Run Time 00:01:00.86
