Im a bit confused. My raid controller says it is degraded, and shows one drive as assigned and one as free. Was i supposed to add it as spare or something? Its raid 1

My school principal is awesome as a arts teacher. Yesterday, we had to do something easy in MSPaint, today he didn't remember the last lesson, so the first few minutes he was confused, then he was like, DAMN!, wait you are the class with 2 lessons a week? So we found a house we like from the web, get the plans for it and email these to him. And if that was done, he told us to get Google Sketchup and try it out.

So I may get my license suspended on the 27th. If I do I'm building a new rig instead of saving up for a new car. What are the current de-facto parts to use? 3570k, 670, 8gb of ram basically?

Its raid 1[/QUOTE] It means one of your drives not only dropped out of RAID, but was unrecoverable. Go back in and break the raid, make a new raid and have it use the data on the good drive.

It looks like Marvell made it that whenever there is any error on a drive, it just kicks the drive off and only accepts it back if you power it down. So now I am unable to rebuild or copy from the only drive I have left...

That's an issue with lower end RAID solutions, from low end drives, or both.

This is fucking retarded, I can't even remove the RAID without deleting the data.

This is so fucking retarded, huge parts of the drive are ok (Or maybe all of it), but as soon as some areas of it are hit, the controller just shits itself and banishes the drive, making it impossible to at least save whatever else is still ok.

Generally deleting a raid doesn't delete the data, just the partition. You can easily load up Testdisk and recover the partition. I did it before on my RAID10 with 4 drives.

Or you could dd it onto another disk and recover it from there?
