I've always wanted to go to a local electronic dump, but I don't know any :(
Maybe I'll talk to pentium/MIPS about it
My local dump is awesome, £15 to carry off any amount of stuff
There are limits of course, but they're generous.
There are no electronic dumps near me :c
I have taken a few broken computers off the hands of repair shops that turned out to have some working parts though. And I once found an original NES controller on the street, which is odd because here everyone had the Jap Famicoms.
I have one NES controller but three NES'es
I made a switch to dolphin browser after my stock GB browser started repeatedly force closing, the difference in lag times and loading times amaze me even with 3G going, its GUI and tab system is lovely too.
Except for me it becomes a bitch sometimes, it has a habit of not responding on my Xperia and sometimes it ends up closing or opening something I don't want.

My console life can be described simply, I owned two genesis-es, each with their shitty 99-in-1 cart which had most of the good Genesis games and some NES ports (???).
I do want a PS3, though. They function well as media centers, but it kinda pisses me off that you can't play PSX or PS2 games on them (iirc) because of how amazingly large the PS2 library is.

If you can find a 60GB PS3 then you can play most if not all PS2 games on that.
Just managed to fix my headphones that's been broken for a year :D
First time i'v actually done it. 1,5 hrs + kitchen knife + lighter = 50 euro saved.
plus... lighter?
be safe now breenisalie
plus... lighter?

wire stripping I presume
lighters are are a handy alternative tool for some things.
with a lighter?
not a, y'know, wire stripper? :v:

Probably some http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat-shrink_tubing.
Oh that's totally possible

'handy alternative tool'
I had pretty much no tools. I took the wire covering off with very careful slowness and a kitchen knife and then used the lighter to remove something or other (probably pixie dust) from the coppar wire. Twist together and apply masking tape and job done
Edit: This was my work area :v:

Well, that too.
Just proves my point further
Probably for heat shrink tubing

You can play PSX games but not PS2 with anything but the aforementioned original 60GB model.
(Also, if you get a PS3, buy Journey off the PSN. Seriously.)
I really should see if my sister still has her PS2 working since she took ours when we moved downstairs.

Headphone wires have special insulation that is pretty hard to remove even with strippers, that's why you can have left/right/ground wires in a single cable
Burning the ends of the wires with a lighter for a tiny bit makes short work of them and allows you to connect them without soldering by just twisting them together then insulating them. Also useful for heatshrink tubing.

So with a 60GB model I'd be good for both older consoles? I thought the PSX stuff was only available from the Store. Would I get the same media center features and software updates a newer PS3 gets?

Why wouldn't you, the hardware isn't less powerfull.
What features are you looking for particularly?
http://www.winsplit-revolution.com/
Like the smart taskbar, adjustable wallpapers multiple monitors. Not much

I can confirm that my physical copy of Crash Team Racing works on my PS3 so I'd presume other games do too.
But note that the 60GB model hasn't been produced since... I think it was produced for a year or two. And it was the first or second PS3 model. You're only going to find second-hand ones, if any.
Looks like Google decided to put in an interactive logo about the 46th anniversary of star trek.
Do you know of a portable OSX version of that? The window manager on OSX drives me up the fucking wall.
I love how it features this

Haha!
The school issued laptops we get around here are pretty shit, and we have problems using the Adobe programs efficiently with them. Especially when it comes to video editing etc.
So, to fix this a bit, the school decided to issue some upgrades to everyones laptops.
I got these upgrades too, even though I don't even have a school issued laptop. I prefer using my Dell XPS, and the school allows for that.
But basically, I just got a 4GB RAM stick and a 120GB Intel 520 SSD for free! :v:
I ran a test in Atto Disk Benchmark:
Read: ~550 MB/s
Write: ~500 MB/s
Also worth mentioning that I have the latest Windows 8 consumer preview installed, so it boots in like 5-6 seconds :DDDD

I fixed the fan in my T61, but thanks to the lack of good wire management (duct tape really) I managed to drive a screw through the speaker wire. Now it does a cracking very high frequency sound even if it's just charging.
I won't be able to set up my desktop til the end of the month. fml
take it apart and pull out the speaker
Did the final step in my GTX 670 RMA with EVGA. No free step up after all but then yesterday I got a call saying they may have accidentally shipped a GTX 680, welp.
