I could try to home-host it but I have a feeling that an old laptop with a dual-core 2.2GHz AMD piece of shit CPU and 4gigs of RAM isn't exactly going to cut it, and my upload probably wouldn't cut it either when my ADSL finally gets turned on.

Turning the keyboard backlight on/off requires special software. So does the ambient light sensor. Not to mention there's a bunch of devices that need to be installed: Wi-Fi Bluetooth USB 3.0 Webcam SD card reader And finally The touchpad and it's multitouch gestures

chdsk kind of worked, didn't tell me there were errors (does it even do that), but did dump all my files in 'found.000'. Great, now I have to sort it all out because it didn't keep the folder structure intact. At least I have access to my files again. Should I RMA the drive though? Or could the I/O errors be caused by something other than hard drive failure?

However it broke when I started the AD service and won't even go to the login screen.

I just had like a line of 6 stuck pixels on my monitor. I pressed the spot for about half a second and the spot was back to normal. Not sure how I feel about this.
