Apparently non-retina applications are scaled up to fit the screen as if it was being displayed at 1920x1200, which would probably look like ass. That goes for pictures on websites too. It's a great step forward, though it's not really worth it quite yet.
Almost everything is either propitiatory or soldered to the board, if you're gonna get a mac, i would say get a non retina model Not only that, the GPU (GT620m) would get choked trying to run source games at the screens native resolution.
Oh yeah and it would be replacing my desktop.
People replacing their desktop with a laptop usually end up regretting it. Although that might just be for power users. £1528 is still a lot to spend on a computer. Are you sure you need/want to spend that much?
£1528 is still a lot to spend on a computer. Are you sure you need/want to spend that much?
Jesus, that'd be lot to spend on a desktop computer. You could get a ludicrously overkill PC for most home usage for that sum.
Also nabbed this today
Nice. If only I got to keep the 4x extra 512GB Crucial M4's they sent me by accident [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline]
Apparently non-retina applications are scaled up to fit the screen as if it was being displayed at 1920x1200, which would probably look like ass. On windows everything just looks tiny, and fucked up DPI. [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline]
I don't get all the fuss about retina displays and high DPI density, it's not like having a fancy display panel suddenly costs $600-700 extra.
IPS + high Resolution = Win. The MacBook Pro Retina is the only non overpriced macbook. Tell me if you can find better specs in a similar form factor ( under 4.6 punds ) has a 15.4 1080P+ screen, and 256GB SSD. And costs less than $1999.99 USD + Tax ( Education discount )
I would jump for a retina MBP for college if I could afford it - but I can't.

Anyone know of a good 64GB SSD and 1-2 TB HDD that cost around 180-200 bucks together?

I could get a laptop with i7-3720QM 2.6GHz, NVIDIA GTX675M 2GB, 16GB of RAM, 15.6" Full HD LED matte display, 256GB SSD + 750GB HDD, and even a fingerprint reader for $2015. Free shipping to continental USA. Oh, and Win7 Home Premium is included too. I really don't play games for long (apart from FIFA on the xbox).
If you are dead set on the MBPr go for it. But if you have any reservations I would say its better to get a nice desktop+MacBookAir or nice Laptop+retina iPad.
If I wanted a laptop for non-gaming activities a MacBook Pro would be at the top of my list. The quality is just amazing.

Oshit I might actually get my Zenbook tomorrow. I don't know if I wanna go to work or what to do :s

The Retina is basically 4x resolution they could scale it 4x and it should theorhetically look the same as a similarly sized 25% res panel.

It renders fonts at full resolution (if you didn't write your own font renderer, at least), but other things are rendered at 1/4 that and scaled. So the UI layout is the same, and many things even look the same, but some things are rendered clearer. Not sure how it works in OpenGL. I would think it just renders at full resolution, but that may not be the case.
Have you even used them before? They suck.
what he just said that
Someone with $40, I have a request. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146083 in return you can have 3 xbox 360 games of your choosing and a couple packs of 5 gum.

So I hooked up both keyboards and typed normally. Here is what it looks like in audition. I figured that if I had a lighter key that it would be quieter but I think because I'm bottoming them out that it's louder overall. But I notice even typing only a little on my G510 that I tire much quicker than the K90, due to the higher need to push down. I'm considering investigating getting those O rings for it. Which removes the TAKAKAKAKA sound and will soften any more blows. Not too sure as I want to make a decision soon so I can return it or keep it. http://puu.sh/L8YC [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline] My theory was mostly right though. A lot less noise on the low end from the desk shaking. The heaviness of the board seems to dampen a lot of the bass levels. So maybe if I got Orings for the keys it would silence them almost.

But under 4.6 pounds and has at least 5 hours of battery life?

It was a pretty hefty purchase, but with a quadi7 it can handle everything and still gets a good 3 hours and a half of battery life. [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline]
Ok. But under 4.6 pounds and has at least 5 hours of battery life?
I just purchased an extra battery and I get ~7 going through both of them. To me weight is no problem, but I do work out everyday. Most people would be annoyed by the weight after awhile. [editline]23rd July 2012[/editline] The only problem I have with this laptop is that my xbox360 controller doesn't work. I only plugged it in once though and have up so I can't really say I tried...
http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1145627-Corsair-K90-Sound-Dampening-Modification The difference is plenty noticeable for me since I already type pretty fast and hard on the keys. I think I'll order some rings from WASD and see if I like the difference.
at my grandma's house on some athlon rig using 1 mbps internet and there's no wifi in the house so i can't use my mom's laptop at least god dammit this is gonna be hard
Goddamn did I really just go through the entire Dead End Thrills archive, trawling for wallpapers? 392 images (all 1080p). 676MB total. I think I may have gone a bit overboard.
So I bought stuff A Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod bottom A Manfrotto 701 HDV video head 125ct. soft Orings for my K90 A key cap plucker thingy then finally another Ripper XXL to replace this one I have now which is dirty and even though they say, "Yea sure thing you can clean it." You really can't.
