The performance difference between a 4870 x2 and a GTX 295 is so minimal, you wouldn't notice it in any modern games. Even on games like Crysis, you'll only see a difference of about one FPS.
Not one, more like 5-10.
Still not worth $130 IMO.
Oh, and SLI GTX 275s (circa $450) > single GTX 295 ($510).
BECAUSE IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY
THERE IS NO REASON TO BUY IT

I have a Q6600 and a GTX 295, works great. P20K+ on 3DMark Vantage.
It's better than a 4870X2, and if you have the money you should get it.
Or he could save the $300 left over after buying the 4870 X2.

If you get it, you're stupid. SLI GTX 260 = GTX 295. The only difference is that the GTX 295 fits in one slot, and that the SLI GTX 260 is $350.
Hey cool let's start up the old R vs G arguments again.

No, the GPUs in the GTX 295 have more shader cores. Good try though. He already said he has a lower end motherboard, so SLI probably isn't an option for him.
OP, listen to Prismatex, he knows what he's talking about. Save the money and invest it in something cool, it's too small of a difference to be worth the money.
This shit hasn't happened since darkride left.

The GPUs in the 295 can most closely be compared to the GTX 275 GPUs. The GTX 275, when first introduced, was hailed by some as half a GTX 295, due to everything but clock speeds being the same (clocks are higher on the GTX 275).

Yeah, the motherboard appears to be a P35 chipset, so SLI isn't a possibility.
[editline]09:26PM[/editline]
Neither does the GTX 295?
He mentioned some common misconceptions about dual-GPU cards, so I said that he wouldn't have to worry about any of them. I never said that the GTX 295 suffered from any of those issues.

We've already established that SLI isn't an option for him, and the only thing that differentiates the 275 from the 295 are the GPU's clocks. You can easily up the fan speed and have a 295 running at those clocks no problem.

You're both saying "no go with X over card Y because -insert opinions-"
I personally believe that is an ATI vs NVIDIA discussion, hence Red vs Green. Also no one was whining about anything.
You're both saying "no go with X over card Y because -insert opinions-"
Well, the OP asked for our opinions.

This has absolutely zero to do with a stupid brand. There is a graphics card that is better than another graphics card that he can afford. I think he should get it.

I know he wanted opinions. I don't recall stating you shouldn't provide your opinions.
Also you should probably fix your sarcasm detector, that's what my "R vs G" post was. It reminded me of the times when darkride and luke hung around and there was constant bickering over ATI & NVIDIA.
But if it bothers you that much, my bad.
Lets just say you have $1,500,000. What do you get, the 1.2 million dollar Pagani Zonda R, or the $382,000 Lamborghini Murcielago?

Well, I don't understand what the point of this post was, then:

That Luke guy makes me want to bite a bullet. And if you were being sarcastic, why did you say it twice in no uncertain terms?
It does irk me just a little bit because people used to call me a fanboy a lot back then too. To clear the record, I'm not. :q:

A) That's not an apt comparison
B) Pagani Zonda R, duh.
The point of my "You're both saying "no go with X over card Y because -insert opinions-" post was to show you that there was still a small R vs G argument going on, since you had said there was none. I wasn't saying 'don't provide the OP with your opinions'.

But... you said... your R v G post was sarcastic... so... why did you back up a post you made about rvg being... oh fuck it.

Well, I'm getting the graphics cards in a retail shop that sells them both but the HD4870X2 is about $80 cheaper, so theres not so much difference between them...

Wow... Someone pointed out that the GTX295 is more powerful than the 4870x2 (which it is) and a huge shitstorm starts, are people really THAT fanboyish now?

$80 is a pretty big difference.
Look at performance benchmarks in different games at the resolution you play at and ask yourself if the 295 is really worth it over the 4870 X2.

Or, I'll get GTX285 cause it satisfies me pretty much
By the way, I guess a 520W PSU won't power the GTX295?
Or, I'll get GTX285 cause it satisfies me pretty much
No.
Have you been reading the thread?
How much have you found this theoretical GTX 285 for?
Is it much of a difference between that and a 4870 X2? If not, get a 4870 X2. If so, get a GTX 280.

Hmm, I want it to be relatively smooth in Crysis, i guess I'll get something above GTX285
Like a 4870 X2?
