i'm not exactly sure but i would go with at least 600watts.
How powerfull PSU do you need for HD4870X2?
[editline]08:39PM[/editline]
Lol, I have never overclocked and I'm kinda scared of it for some reason
It requires a minimum of 600 watts, but to be safe I would go 650.
Overclocking isn't too dangerous as long as you don't get overzealous about it. But it almost always voids the warranty, so if you think you'll screw something up, you probably shouldn't try it.

What's your current PSU?
A qualiy 600W unit will serve you fine.
What's your current PSU?

What? No. You'd need greater than 90% efficiency to pull that out of a 500W.
You should probably shoot for something like this:

Typo.
Meant to say 600W.

520w
What brand?
[editline]08:31AM[/editline]
Kay, just looked on Newegg and there were three 520W PSUs - an Apevia, an Athena Power, and a Corsair. The Corsair puts out 54 amps on the 12v rails, so I wouldn't worry about that one. The other two? Meh, not so much. The Apevia puts out 35 amps, and the Athena puts out 28, so depending on your power supply, you may need to replace it.

I have Corsair HX520W.
You should be fine with a 4870 X2.
700$ on a graphics card? are you mad? but then again your rig doesnt look like you have anything else to upgrade to. maybe get the 285 and save the rest for something like a laptop or something for college n shiz \:v:/
[editline]02:20PM[/editline]
a gtx 295 isnt a dual graphics card there is one graphics card but 2 GPU's inside it wont be like a Sli setup, the antec 900 should keep it cool
Isnt there more problems, like does really that many games support multi-gpus or SLI?
[editline]05:39PM[/editline]
You should be fine with a 4870 X2.
You mean with that PSU?
A) Modern games all begun support SLI/Crossfire.
B) Yes, a Corsair HX520W can support a 4870 X2.

A) How new? Like 3 years or something? Cause then its no problem.
B) How can you be so sure? Because on AMD's site it says this:
650 Watt or greater power supply with one 2x3-pin PCIe® power connector and one 2x4-pin PCIe® power connector is required (1K Watt with two 2x3-pin and two 2x4-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)
They overstate requirements.
That Corsair power supply could easily handle a 4870 X2.

Lol really? I thought it was pretty weak but ok, then i can buy something else too, i save loads of money by not buying a GTX295 but instead 4870X2 or something thats sweet lol
I have a GTX 295, no heat problems at all, it runs way cooler than my 8800 GTX did.
also no power problems, running a quad core 2 extreme, gtx 295, and a billion fans on a 650 watt

But, i think i have decided on 4870 X2 cause its more cheap and still is VERY powerful
Is Sapphire good?
[editline]12:59PM[/editline]
The fact that it's a bit faster also shows that you will most likely be able to squeeze a bit more performance out of it before having to upgrade. Also, dual GPU's have some advantages, like 32x AA. :v:
Right now I've backed it off to 3.4GHz so it's 100% stable, but I had it at 3.6GHz, which was almost completely stable. It just crashed after being under load for a few hours.
Jesus, thank you...
I guess a GTX295 would be bottlenecked by Q6600 at stock speed?
Sapphire is great.
I guess a GTX295 would be bottlenecked by Q6600 at stock speed?
No, in most games the performance difference isn't very noticeable.
Sapphire is great.
I guess so, in my eyes its like vanilla ATi

Click "Corsair", there it says HX520W doesnt support 4870 X2
An HX520W could support a single 4870 X2.
An HX520W could support a single 4870 X2.
Better go with some Corsair 650W or 750W PSU for a HD4870X2 . . . I have one myself and my old 580W PSU wasn't able to handle it.

A HX520W is a corsair psu. :downs:
[editline]12:46AM[/editline]
If your good at cable management you could grab the the TX650W it's 10 bucks cheaper than the HX520W, not modular though.
I have a GTX 295, no heat problems at all, it runs way cooler than my 8800 GTX did.

What kind of idiot buys a C2E? You can save hundreds of dollars buying a C2Q and overclocking it.
Fuck, you could have bought an i7 for cheaper than that, and outperform the C2E without even OCing it.
Oh btw I dont have any good cable management right now but it feels like i have hundreds of wires going all over the place.
But, will HX520W support 4870 X2 at 100% load?
I mean would i be safe with HX520W, Prismatex says so, but:
Better go with some Corsair 650W or 750W PSU for a HD4870X2 . . . I have one myself and my old 580W PSU wasn't able to handle it.
But i guess it had different volt/amp combinations (idk whats the difference, that perhaps)?
BTW, what happens if PSU cant handle the GPU?
Please comfirm anyone if a HX520W should manage it?
Just get a 4870 X2.
actualy there isent that much difference betwene the 4850 x2 and the 4870 x2 it's just that the 4870x2 generates LOTS OF HEAT but is a little better but the 4850 x2 generates as much heat (mabe less) THAN THE GTX 295 AND IT SURPASSES THE 295 BY A LOT
here are some revievs of the both they helped me pick.

Isn't the GTX295 like the best card in most situations, bypassed by 4870 X2 in crysis, but still how can 4850 X2 surpass it? btw my friend has a 4870 and he has an error: "VPU Recover" is it something to worry about in my purchase?
[editline]11:02AM[/editline]
I am so lucky I have self control, as I almost fucking threw my computer out the window.
Self control?
A) VPU Recover might mean he had some issue with overclocking and the card reset itself to stock settings.
B) Yeah, there's no chance in hell a 4850 X2 would beat a GTX 295.
