There not worth it if there not dell.
yup, true for sure.
I got to use one for a week and it was amazing! Loved gaming and watching videos on it. It was like seeing HD quality for the first time. Definitely worth the price.
yup, true for sure.
Dell actually has some of the best IPS displays available, quality/price wise.
I ordered one yesterday, should get here today =D EDIT: It's now sitting on my desk <3 EDIT2: Portrait mode is beautiful

IPS are the slowest kind. You may want to go for a *VA if you want to game.

Uhh... what? VA isn't as fast as TN, no. But it isn't anywhere near as awfully slow as IPS while not sacrificing a lot in terms of image quality for it.
Uhh... what? VA isn't as fast as TN, no. Seriously those VA panels odellus posted go up to 40ms.
Uhh... what? VA isn't as fast as TN, no. But it isn't anywhere near as awfully slow as IPS while not sacrificing a lot in terms of image quality for it.
The response time of VA panels is worse than IPS, but they have much better contrast ratios.
I have never seen or heard of anything to indicate that. I have however read things written by knowledgeable people agreeing with me which is why I have this opinion. Eizo even uses VA in their multimedia screen I'm pretty sure for this very reason. I think I trust the premier display vendor in the world over you guys randomly posting shit on FP. Maybe the electronics in those VA displays have bad input lag, entirely possible. But the panel itself will have less ghosting than an IPS.
Uhh... what? VA isn't as fast as TN, no. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2311h.htm U2311H. IPS. Average input lag: 10.6 ms. All of those VA panels had input lag at or in excess of 25 ms. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
The response time of VA panels is worse than IPS, but they have much better contrast ratios.
On average VA panels have better contrast ratios but not much better. There are a few exceptions though.
The response time of VA panels is worse than IPS, but they have much better contrast ratios.
Depends highly on the monitor in question and the price range. For the average consumer, the u2311h is the best bang for the buck achievable.
Input lag =/= panel response time. Just FYI.
Input lag =/= panel response time. Just FYI.
You're the second person to say something like this. Can you back it up with evidence? [editline]19th January 2011[/editline] Because from every monitor review I've read, they always define input lag as the delay between the graphics card's output and the monitor displaying it. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline] Which is the same exact thing as what you just said.
Panel response time is the time it takes for the image to change between frames. If this is too great the images will start to blur into each other, creating "ghosting" which was a massive problem especially when LCD was new. IPS is the worst at this and is still at a sort of level where it could be a problem. Whereas TN is so fast it doesn't even matter anymore (hence the 2-5ms ratings on everything) and VA is quite workable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Response_time_(technology)#Display_technologies Input lag is the amount of time it takes for the signal to be processed and go from the input to the panel, before ghosting even becomes an issue.
My first LCD was a 1024x768 TN @ 16ms response time. My newer one has 5ms. But on that older 16ms LCD, the picture actually has brighter pixels, more vibrant color, and the backlight is so bright it's alomst blinding at night. Both are VGA input only, and despite their difference in pixel response time, I've never seen a single ghosting on either of them. Ghosting is a thing of the past, that only happened with MUCH older LCDs. ...And input lag? Bitch, please... Like ANYTHING in milliseconds is going to affect a user in real-world applications.

I see ghosting on my 2ms TN. But it's not really an issue because it's so endlessly little. I must say 25ms doesn't seem like much, but it could be a problem actually. The fastest you can go on 60 fps is 16ms I think, so 25 represents a delay of almost two full frames. If you have vsync enabled on top of this that'll be almost twice that depending on if it's double or triple buffered. Now you're really hurting. In this case yes, you may want to choose the slower IPS over VA if available displays offer better input lag.

[editline]19th January 2011[/editline] So you're still wrong. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
My first LCD was a 1024x768 TN @ 16ms response time. No I'm not. Input lag is how long it takes for the display to process the image before displaying it and response time is how much time it takes to actually display it. One is the electronics, the other is the panel itself, which is just the film with the pixels in it. Or whatever LCD is made of.
Uhh... what? VA isn't as fast as TN, no. But it isn't anywhere near as awfully slow as IPS while not sacrificing a lot in terms of image quality for it.
One may use speed interchangeably with response time when talking about panels. Which is a component of a display not the whole display.
My 40" Samsung TV has a duckload of ghosting and its getting really noticeable now that I sit very close to it. Dragging windows around and the like its pretty clear but for its size you aren't supposed to be this close. I still noticed it a few metres away however. BLOODY HELL I PAID FOR NEXT DAY DELIVERY YESTERDAY AND I STILL HAVE NO U2410 RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Next day isn't the same thing as overnight.
I love my U2311H, since I do a lot of design work as well as a bit of gaming. I even watch movies on it. It's absolutely fantastic.
If you ordered it yesterday it should be there tomorrow. Next day isn't the same thing as overnight.
The website specified next day before noon and I had ordered before noon the previous day. Anyway its arrived and I quite like it. Still calibrating and tweaking till I settle on what looks right.
Must be your eyes.
If I move my cursor, drag something, smooth scroll or look around smoothly in a game, the motion is blurry and soft even if I track it perfectly with my eyes. For smooth scrolling this actually does become a problem as the text isn't legible if you go too fast. For games it's not bad though. I pretty much consider it free motion blur.
