I'd rather be with Virgin Media, but parents insist they know best.

Don't, that result is far better than anything I got while I was on Virgin Media.
Here's mine:

Note: This result is actually exceptional. I usually get something like 1 Mbps at peak times, plus my bandwidth is capped because I pirated something that one time or whatever.
Oh, and the data cap is depressingly low.

Not too bad for regional New South Wales on ADSL2+

Google might be using their own leased IP for their HQ, probably piggy backing off servers in Fremont.

No. Google wins.

Romania's internet speeds are pretty good. (My household has a "company contract", which limits the speeds somewhat and increases the subscription price. Normal contracts have usually 100mbps down&up at way lower prices).

You have a pretty high upload thats a reason why you pay more.

Eastlink bro! Wouldn't happen to be from Sudbury, eh?

My isp is horrible. Internet dropouts every other day and my speed flip flops from this to somewhere around 0 Mb/s all the time :(.

You generally get better speeds at night, during the day it slows down a little (still several hundred megabits, though).

Not Google Fiber, just from my workstation.
