No. It's terrible and so bad compared to OSX it can't even be put into words. It even happens in their own browser, so it definitely isn't just third party programs. Text in the news app is too small, because they're not treating the high density as a tool to make text sharper, they're using it to display more information. They honestly didn't even try, or they just have no idea what they're doing. People don't want a 240ppi monitor to display minuscule text not legible without a microscope, they want it for sharper text. If you try to fix it, everything including metro, gets too big to be comfortable. Plus the artifacting is still there. It's just terrible.
Haven't got much experience with high-DPI displays, just assumed it as I haven't seen much fuss (if any) about the Metro scaling. There's a difference here, though, Apple can just work with 4X the amount of pixels, which makes scaling quite easy - I can imagine doing scaling for a lot of different resolutions makes it a bit harder. It's a shame, really, I thought they actually did well with Metro this time around.
Microsoft isn't going to be catching up to Apple's method of DPI scaling anytime soon since they don't have the benefit of making their own devices with 4x the pixels of some other device they already made.
Now we just need a version with the digitizer. Would be perfect.
This would be amazing for my work PC, coupled with a digitizer, i could put it in the side panel so i won't have to lug around a monitor and leads.
I wonder... How large are these screens? I wonder if it'd be possible to replace my netbook screen with this or the Nexus screen. (Yes I realize how much work that would be, a man can dream though...)

[t]http://puu.sh/2GzlU.jpg[/t] Wot.
Order it!
Order it!
I don't need it though.
Your netbook definitely won't be fit the 9.7", especially on a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Forgot it was 4:3. Damn, would be nice to have something larger than 1024x600.
I don't need it though.
Yes you do. You just don't know it yet.
Yes you do. You just don't know it yet.
Also you have to buy three. What the hell would I do with three of those? My computer doesn't even have a displayport out.
My computer doesn't even have a displayport out.
You're talking as if that's a huge obstacle
You're talking as if that's a huge obstacle
Have you seen the pricetag of HDMI/DVI to displayport adapters? They're in the 100$ range. And even then I doubt they support the resolution of the iPad display.
Have you seen the pricetag of HDMI/DVI to displayport adapters? They're in the 100$ range. Single link adapters doesn't sport a high enough resolution to drive the iPad3 display, Double link one's do.
[t]http://puu.sh/2GzlU.jpg[/t] Wot.
$222 for 3 of those to Norway isn't bad. It's tempting :v:
What's with the weird wavy plastic? Can it be removed?
What's with the weird wavy plastic? Can it be removed?
screen protector for when the bare panel is being shipped.
screen protector for when the bare panel is being shipped.
I despise people who don't remove these
I despise people who don't remove these
I bet he's keeping it on until he can find a more permanent bezel compared to electrical tape.
I despise people who don't remove these
It's the bare panel, there's no coating or protective glass/plastic layer on it. Any scratch will be really bad.
Looks like some fella has had some success with the 15" macbook retina panels being interface via eDisplayPort http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/92815/What+is+the+model+number+of+the+2880x1800+LCD

Also kind of annoying how the guy hasn't updated with info about the pro PCBs he was planning on making.
Someone should make a 3D printable monitor casing for these
how thick is the screen? if it's thin enough you could possibly place it on top of something like an intuos and have a pretty amazing graphics drawing tablet cintiqad
how thick is the screen? if it's thin enough you could possibly place it on top of something like an intuos and have a pretty amazing graphics drawing tablet cintiqad
that wouldn't really work well at all you'd eventually scratch the thing to fuck, and it would screw the pressure sensitivity. And you have to factor in the actual feel of the surface, glossy is bad for drawing
