Looking at what changes there are in the msstyles, Windows 7 themes should work in Windows 8 by default, however might cause problems with IE, Start Screen, Copy File Dialog, Task Manager, and possibly the Taskbar and DWM if the temp classes are still being used in the beta.
Then again due to a slight internal change regarding the animations it could simply not work at all and will need to be ported.

That's basically the standard laptop resolution from what I've seen. And anything higher is a lot more draining on battery power anyways.

You don't know what the screen size it is, around 13" that kind of resolution is perfectly acceptable.
I can't stand to have any shit on my desktop - i keep some files there until i'm arsed to sort them into my external hard drive though (The nvidia driver update told me to update today for example.)
Also, window and cursor shadows make me uneasy because they aren't centered (insert typical self-diagnosed OCD bullshit :v:)

720×1280 is the highest phone resolution (Galaxy Nexus). Everything else scales down at the same ratio (I think).
