everything about this is terrible
I agree it's sometimes more easy to use your download directory to be the desktop, but that justs looks plain horrible. I'd do better things if I had two monitors.
I need more monitors for moar multitaskani
I bet he uses his primary monitor as a fullscreen webbrowser too

It's so much the ugliest orb, it isn't even an orb.

Hooray for drab minimalism!

I set up Windows 7's slideshow wallpaper feature so that I ca darken my desktop at night so my eyes don't bleed whenever I'm looking at it.
I love that dock by the way. It hides until I throw my mouse up there, and it holds any application (read: game) that I need. Makes anything I'm doing loads quicker.

There's a lot of stuff on that screen for "minimalism."

I hate having the dock appear when you hover at the top, because if you have a window taking up the whole screen, it prevents you from closing it and if you're already clicking, opens the item instead.
It was just too annoying for me.

You could just use f.lux. Takes a little getting used to but it's actually quite nice in my opinion.

I have the dock set to a delay of a little less than a second to prevent accidental pulldown, actually. Works pretty well as I don't find myself ever activating it when I need to close or drag a maximized window.

I have that installed and I used it for a while. It definitely takes some getting used to, but it's nice.
One thing I don't get is that it seems to not affect any OpenGL or DX rendered content so any games I'm playing look blue if I start them in the middle of the night.

I've been using it long enough now that looking at any screen without it on is really hard on my eyes. But then I have it set to max because eye strain is something I need to minimize as much as possible.
the fact that you're using iTunes probably isn't helping your experience at all
+1 to that.
If you're looking for something iTunes-y, then try MusicBee. I've used it for a bit and it's a really good music player/manager!
If you're looking for something different, I recommend Foobar2000.
