VLC is very very useful, but more of a temp fix for codec problems if you need to watch something immediately.
I use Foobar 2k for music and VLC for videos, what exactly is wrong with it?

it's designed for portability, not quality
mpchc + codecs (if you don't have a little time on your hands you can just install k-lite or cccp, those both come with mpchc) generally have higher quality in regards to colour reproduction and overall picture quality. I'd post comparison shots but i don't want this derailing into a "vlc vs mpchc" thread. There's nothing inherently [i]wrong[/i] with vlc, it just isn't the ideal solution for someone looking to get the most out of their system.

2.0 just came out, and it's better than ever. It's also one of the only portable, cross-platform media players to have long-awaited Blu-ray disc support. VLC is a must for my lightweight Media Center PC.
I used foobar2k for music until it fucked up my album art then I just used the windows one

VLC's set as my default.
Because when I doubleclick a file, I'm opening it as a one off - meaning I don't want it to mess with foobar2000's playlists at all.

I have VLC set as my default MP3 player to preview tracks. it loads fast, plays flawlessly, and I don' t have to wait for iTunes to load it's 100 yotabytes of bloatware + Quicktime, Bonjour, MobileMe, iPod Service, THAT UPDATER, and whatever other cancers lie hidden underneath.

That fucking updater is the entire reason I uninstalled iTunes. I got really tired of the pile of crap minimizing games and other full screen applications to get my attention.
