I need some advice on the colorscheme, particularly of my status thingie on the left.
My wallpaper rotates and doesn't have any theme relating to color btw.

god bless imgur compression
I don't get what people talk about when they mention Imgur compressing images ridiculously. I don't see it.
It looks terrible to me, although that's saying nothing, I'm tethered to a phone and my carrier JPEG rapes EVERYTHING to save data.
Turn on "load high resolution images on mobile data" somewhere in the settings
it should be there if you look hard enough
I am suddenly in love with Openbox

This is a stupid question but how do you make it so metro tiles are only 4 high?
My guess is screen resolution.

I'm not sure, but I guess that's decided by the pixel density?
Anyways, I'm sure there is 3rd party programs for that if windows doesn't support it :)
i want to say it's somewhere in its right click menu thingy
but i haven't actually used release version Windows 8 so I don't know

Made a less vomit-inducing colourscheme and started messing with conky and Tint2.
I really wish there was a way to make Windows 8's desktop look and behave like openbox.0

Boot into another operating system just to use a different shell?
"Let me boot into Windows so I can play this game. That was fun, now to reboot my computer again so I can browse the internet and check my email. Nothing new here, I want to go play this game again. Let me reboot my computer right quick."

No, rather the opposite
Boot in to another operating system to play video games, use the other OS for everything else.
[editline]2nd December 2012[/editline]
Or use a Linux VM for that kinda stuff. It's up to you, but I'd just dualboot if I wanted to play games

That's exactly what I said by booting into Windows to play a game, and other to browse the internet and whatnot, but go through all the hassle? You can do all that in Windows and save yourself the trouble of rebooting your computer just to do one thing and then reboot to do another.

There are certainly more advantages to using Linux from day to day than browsing the internet and whatnot.

Say you're a developer..
Say you're a developer..
I use Visual Studio. That's a matter of preference, not a straight-up advantage of using Linux over the other.

Say you're in class and you leave your laptop on your desk for like two minutes to go take a piss or something.
If you have the kind of friends that like to pull pranks on your computer when you leave it alone, they'll get to the laptop and not have any idea what the fuck to do.
[editline]3rd December 2012[/editline]
also i'm one of those jackasses that like to show off Compiz but that's probably just me
Linux for developping is like a dream compared to windows.
As for day to day usage: I don't really see that much of a difference between casual browsing and stuff. Both do the same thing in that case.
One big plus on linux's side is the ability to install your software trough software repositories, which really speeds up the task of setting up your system.
One thing I miss on windows is the lack of a good CMD shell.
I don't really like powershell. seems much more complicated compared to bash or ZSH.

That wouldn't work when you're studying Computer Science. Also, I just press Windows+L when I leave.
Don't get me wrong, though. I have used and still occasionally use Linux myself; I just don't see why it would be inherently better than Windows.

I use a terminal regularly, but I don't miss it at all in Windows, to be honest, although I can see your point about repos.
I guess it just comes down to preference and what you're used to.
