the dumps are actually easy to find on sites like tpb
I forgot to add that my internet sucks, but I might see if there's any smaller ones since I gave up on the project a few months back.
To be honest, people in this thread are not very creative
Little effort ahead, kept me occupied for a little bit though.
It's silly, you didn't even think of the idea.
I did think of the shotgun one. I've been looking for a good excuse since february.

It's like how I wanted to get a text dump of Wikipedia and put it on my PSP for a real Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Someone had already done something similar before, but my idea was still creative.
I gave up on it in case anyone is wondering. The dumps are huge and hard to find.
I just put Wikipedia on my iPod (5.5g Video) the other day. It turned out way easier than I thought, there's an automated installer and you just drag a few downloaded files over. It's using an older database of Wikipedia, but it's still pretty good.
I'm currently downloading another version of the database to put on my cellphone, which hopefully works (Palm Centro).
Here's the site for instructions for the iPod if you like: http://www.ipodstuff.org/?p=266
On topic, I'm planning 2 entries, one should be pretty good I think. Won't get started till at least tomorrow though, maybe not till Monday if stores are closed etc. So don't call the competition over just cause people are putting in lazy entries in the first few days.

my crazy frog was pretty creative, you take that back!
Can we use things other then USB storage devices? like a usb blue-tooth adapter?
I have created the most unique item ever...A tic-tac USB container.
Step 1:
[img_thumb]http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/9906/image052.jpg[/img_thumb]
Step 2:

Results:

Fear the originality! I removed the label on the container because I wanted to.

I was wondering this too but the OP stated that:
• The mod must be performed on a functioning USB thumb/flash/storage device.
I don't have many flash drives that I'm willing to rip apart, but I'd love to try my hand at doing something interesting with a USB hub.

If only my iPod hadn't died. :saddowns:
MTMod, would this count? It's a USB device and I modded it into my old laptop a few months ago.

That's not a USB stick.
That's not a USB stick.
So it HAS to be a usb stick!
Oh man I just came up with a great idea for this, and if I'm careful I can keep the original function of the thing I'm putting it in

does anyone know if its possible to solder some bright lights to work off the power coming into the usb drive for the eyes of my crazy frog? i think it would be epic if they lit up when using the usb.
Yup, USB has two standard power pins, and two data pins. il grab some info.

Grab some bright LED's, and a resistor as to not blow them out.
That's not a USB stick.
it just says USB mod...
Well I changed my idea and I'm now making my flashdrive to look like a graphics card, with a running fan.

USB mod on a USB thumb/flash/storage device. According to the rules
Learn 2 Kapton Tape
It's "Wire Tack", I use it to hold wires down when soldering.
I just got a ps2 slim fan attach to the flash drive and it runs very well.

Or use silly putty.

so how would i do this while keeping the memory part of the usb in tact?
[editline]07:05PM[/editline]
bah, i haven't really done much work with this kind of thing before. i might just leave it as is.
so how would i do this while keeping the memory part of the usb in tact?
Use the pins on the sides. Red positive, black negative.
Kapton tape is better
Didn't have any in the house when I did that, probably should pick some up.

Lets say if someone wanted to experiment with usb re-soldering/multi chip idea, could you use a usb hub as a fail safe? Just so that when you plug in your usb hack job it wont sort out your mobo's usb port?
