Hey recently my computer keeps crashing Chrome and other apps to save memory, I have 8gb of RAM and supposedly the computer is using 5gb of it, I don't know what's causing it, I am uninstalling everything Should I use Window's 8's refresh tool to flush the computer of anything or what? Cheers
I would say go for the refresh tool. But also try this 1) Boot your computer into safe mode. 2) Download and install Malwarebytes (It's free and has a pretty good detection rate. Be sure you go to the real Malwarebytes site. 3) Run Malwarebytes while in safe mode, and let it do a full scan. Keep me updated.
Go into the task manager and click the button "show processes for all users". You should then be able to find which application is sucking up a ton of memory.

What do you mean everything is using your CPU power? Show task manager and what's using it
What do you mean everything is using your CPU power? Show task manager and what's using it
Well mainly chrome, when the memory problem was happening Chrome used the RAM instead of CPU which crashed it a lot but gave my CPU a breather This is it atm But isn't this very bad? That temperature isn't too bad if it's under load. Your CPU usage is high but yeah the main culprits are Chrome, which is probably at a normal level, but there's also some system services as well which I'm not completely sure, your computer could be downloading updates in the background or something. Also puush is using 6%, that's a little odd if it's not doing anything. The high CPU usage isn't to worry about anyway as long as it's not causing performance issues. It shouldn't be causing crashes
That temperature isn't too bad if it's under load.
No, it is very bad under any condition. Thermal Junction for the i5-650 is 72.6c, it running at 77C is causing constant damage to the CPU and reducing its lifespan considerably. Clean out your heatsink, re-apply thermal paste and make sure the CPU fan is working properly. The reason you're having FPS issues is because the CPU is slowing itself down and inserting NOPs into the pipeline to try and reduce the load so it cools down. If you keep pushing it, it's going to fry.
The fan is working properly, I'll unscrew it and have a look at it on the weekend but it has recently dropped back to 50-55 [editline]6th February 2014[/editline] Right now sitting on 80 degrees, I'll turn the computer off as soon as I've done my work
Bumping this to say that I've fixed the issue, I bought a new fan and it's reduced my processor temp to 35-40 degrees, there was no visible heat damage done to the CPU and everything is fine, thanks guys!

The CPU is probably already damaged.
No visible damage doesn't mean anything. The CPU is probably already damaged.
Well it's working fine and doesn't appear to be fucking up but it's 3 turning 4 years old so
Well it's working fine and doesn't appear to be fucking up but it's 3 turning 4 years old so
So? My i7 860 is 4,5 years old, and still running at 3.6 Ghz @ 40c idle and 60c full load. Age doesn't say anything.
If you want to make sure that no immediate damage has been caused, you could download Prime95. Let it run for a couple of hours, and see if it spits out any mis-calculations.

CPU passed all stress test so I'm confident to say it isn't faulty
