8600GT 3 Years Ago - What is the Nvidia Equivalent Now?

The HD 4670 seems to be ideal for OP, and not too bad (well, a lot better than my old 9500GT according to benchmarks)
What the hell is ATi?
AMD/ATi is a graphics card chipset manufacturer.

AMD killed the ATi name. That's the joke. I think.

Still I'm pretty certain that's the joke. It's been made a couple of times since AMD announced that they would kill the name.
Just ordered:

Hi OP,
I went from a 7900 to the one seen in this thread;

no longer than a year ago.
Works well :)
8600GT is PCI-E x16, I have one just near me.
....
So beceuse yu have a PCI-E version the AGP version doesnt exist??
I would not reccomend a 9800GT on that psu.
Get a Nvidia 9600 or an ATI 4650.
512 should be enough since your bottleneck would be your cpu and ram annyway.

Read and you'd see he already ordered a 4670.
8600GT was the entry level gaming card for the 8XXX series.
That means the 9600GT/240GT would be the newer Nvidia equivalents.
On ATI's side you'd have the 4670 and 5570. ATI's cards use far less power, for someone like you that should be the deciding factor.
If you had to save every possible £ you could go with Nvidia 220GT or ATI 4650 or 5550. You'll take a hit to performance(try to get the fastest memory version, DDR5 then DDR3 then DDR2 if possible) but with your CPU you aren't going to be getting great performance on demanding games anyways.

L2R, 4670 is already ordered.
GPU arrived, will try when I get home, heres to hoping I won't need to shell out extra ££ for a new PSU

Not even possible, new psu won't fit in shitty dell case.
A 4670 is quite small, we don't really know anything about the model. It could be one of their larger versions

For what I understand, in general you can't upgrade your PSU if you have a pre-build Dell due to Psu measurements.
Shit sorry I misread your post and thought you were saying the GPU wouldn't fit. As for the PSU I have managed to fit ATX PSUs into pre-built cases you just have to drill a couple of extra screw holes
Oh well, GPU installed, tested with Alien Swarm + MineCraft so far (not intensive) but Alien Swarms runs on very high with 60+ FPS
What GPU did you get again?
he got a HD4670.
