Swap out the Hard Drive for a Seagate Barracuda. 500gb would probably be fine for you unless you think you will use more than 500gb. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395 I've always preferred Seagate Harddrives. You forgot Thermal Paste, what about a better Heatsink too? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125 [editline]04:59PM[/editline]
Is Windows Vista better? When it first came out, I got mixed reviews. What do you guys think?
It's not bad but for now you could use the Windows7 RC and then when it comes out grab a copy off the shelves. You would have some more money at that time too.
I'd like to stay in the range of 600-700 dollars if that's possible, but I don't know if it is, which is why I defer to you.
Get a Foxconn a7gm-s, 4 gigs ram AMD Phenom 955. Windows 7 64 bit, And a maybe an HD 4850. Bam. My 9600 GSO does crysis on high on a lower side resolution. But that should work out. The only thing with the a7gm-s 2.0 is a bios flash needed for it to properly clock the processor. But the foxconn mobo comes with utilities to bios flash.

WD or Samsung are really good, seagate is semi-worse. 955 Heatsinks allow for light overclocking, and you don't even need an extra one if you aren't overclocking at all. RAM posted above has 5-5-5-15 timings, you should get the one I posted because its timings are better. Lowest you can get, which is very good. Of course, if you want to save, I can't stop you.
It's fine, also you will be able to upgrade to windows 7 when its released.
DFI has some very nice overclocking motherboards...
It's really not worth overclocking anything but your video card and CPU. Anything else is usually a placebo/provides very little increase.
It's really not worth overclocking anything but your video card and CPU. Anything else is usually a placebo/provides very little increase.
OCing the video card is placebo. FSB is where it's at.
OCing the video card is placebo. FSB is where it's at.
-snip- i'm an idiot
It's really not worth overclocking anything but your video card and CPU. Anything else is usually a placebo/provides very little increase.
You do realize you are very VERY wrong right now right? What about RAM timings, and NB? RAM clocks and NB voltages affect a cpu overclock quite a bit. Timings bump up your performance even more. Have yourself some boxes.
DDR2 800 @ 1000 MHz 4-4-5-16 ftw
Okay, so assuming this is it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128387 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.236399 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.250627 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144254 Someone told me I should get a Core i7 instead of the Phenom

Edit: Samsung/Hitachi HDD's are fine.
Someone told me I should get a Core i7 instead of the Phenom
Unless you're getting a 975 (aka $1000 processor), you get no performance gain over a Phenom II.
Unless you're getting a 975 (aka $1000 processor), you get no performance gain over a Phenom II.
not if you overclock a 920.
Same deal with the Phenom II. Overclock any one of them and viola, you're topping the charts as far as CPU performance goes.

What are we looking at, an 810 vs. a 975?
can't you read the article... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i5-lynnfield,2379-4.html Doesn't say, but it might be a 975, does not matter. You can change the QPI speed in the BIOS anyway.

I have no idea what any of this shit means
That's an old 920 up against the newest i7 860
didn't you make a computer with th89 like a year ago
I have no idea what any of this shit means
If you have the money, get the i7 for a bit of a performance boost. Otherwise, get what I posted for maximum power/price. Intel uses dead end sockets anyway, meaning next year you might have to buy a new motherboard, while AMD's sockets are cross-compatible (most of the time).
almost head to head, what other hardware are they using? That's why i don't like to use them. faster RAM actually helps performance a lot.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=47&p2=102 also this
didn't you make a computer with Barack Obama like a year ago
yeah but he paid for all the parts, so it's his. Plus, it's been broken since may
almost head to head, what other hardware are they using? That's why i don't like to use them. faster RAM actually helps performance a lot.
If it's a valid test, everything other than the mobo is the same on every one of them. also cheaper for better performance

I'm very happy with the performance i got over my Q9550 i would go i7 860, as it uses a new Onboard PCI Express connector 'feature'. They would NOT use the same stuff for all the test probably...
because you're an intel fanboy
yes, but i never said don't get the PII. If you want 'better' performance, then get an i7. if you want nearly the same, get the PII. but from what i hear the PIIs don't OC well.. but I don't know if the OP oc's at all. Do any AM3/AM2+ boards support both crossfire, and SLI? (just wondering) [editline]10:47PM[/editline] cause tylersburg (x58) does
