The 470 is a tad lower on price than the 5870 now (using overclockers.co.uk).
The 470 is a tad lower on price than the 5870 now (using overclockers.co.uk).
nowhere near enough difference to be worth it [editline]06:10PM[/editline] unless those driver updates I've been hearing about have changed this
They might drop a little bit more in the coming week or so, fingers crossed.
not likely. any kind of significant price drop happens over months, unless there's an offer
You never know.
You never know.
Yeah, but that's just the problem. You could be waiting a long time for a price drop.
or prices could go up
Perhaps he should wait for the 1st of June for the GTX 460 and whatnot. Might lower prices of the 5850.. or those cards might be a better choice (SLI em later..?)

This thread was both extremely helpful for my cause and extremely confuzzling. Are there any vendors that have special fans for GTX470? I want this card bad, but im only getting it because my old 7900GS died: of heat problems. :ohdear:

It probably wont die from the heat in the first few years but it does make helluva lot of noise and it heats the case. Besides even after the new drivers HD5870 beats it with less noise and heat at almost the same price. If you want Nvidia get the 480. In some games even the 5850 beats the 470 and its ~100$ cheaper.

You are forgetting the new AWESOME beta driver thats out now (which increased performance by an average of 10~15 FPS Raising it completely over the 5850 in terms of performance). The 470 is a great card with a great price and has extras such as being a DX11 powerhouse.

And as a side note the owner of the 470 decided to sell the card and get a 5870. He said that the main reasons were more power(tesselation isnt that common just yet), EyeInfinity support's better than Nvidia's equaivalent setup and the noise and heat's too much on summer days. EDIT: If you still prefer Nvidia then go ahead but I can't recommend current Fermi's just yet. Oh and the Sli-scaling is awesome on 'em tho but you'll probably need a new psu for Sli fermi's.
Dont buy from okobe. Stick to novatech scan ebuyer and as a last option, OCUK
Exactly, it doesn't matter what you play, it matters what the majority plays. I wasn't insulting your game choice, they're just not common. Read: the temperatures are equivalent to that of the 5870 when you turn the fan to 60%. Since you can't seem to grasp the concept that the GTX 480 is not a hot plate with a couple of 500mm fans strapped to it: [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbP9QZOPJPY[/hd] [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVEhyfbeDSg[/hd] [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBU1EFLnvdg[/hd] Good job pulling personal shit into a civilized argument. I'm not just defending NVIDIA, I'm defending ATI as well, if you care to check my posts, I'm even going to be running 4890 Crossfire. I defend something when I believe someone is slandering a product or company's name for biased or ignorant reasons, which you have.

Okay seriously?
Okay so it was kinda stupid to use just one game as an example. What I tried to say is on some games even the HD5850 proves a challenge to the 470(with the beta drivers). At idle speeds the 470 is rather quite but when playing games that use all the juice it heats so much that the fan has to blow (imho) too loud. The best part of 470 is definately its oc capability(you can get it run at 480 speeds) but then you would need water-cooling or wear earplugs. Its a great GPU but imho tad bit too overpriced. They havent sold that well here in Finland yet so if they would drop the prices I might be tempted do pick up one, especially because it scales so well in sli so buying another one in the future might prove to be a wise choice.

Good job.
Hey cool ignore the meat of my post and continue saying what you've been saying. Good job.
Well what was the main point then? The fact that 5870 aint that cool/silent eihter? Well if that's the case well yes, 5870 does run at a lot higher temps than the 5850 but I didnt get as high as the 470 and it also makes a lot more noise than 50 but once again I prefer ati's fan over 470's. Hopefully i got your point now :) EDIT: Just to clarify a bit my older statements the heat of fermi's is by no means a reason not to get one and neither is its thirst for power.
Two Questions then: 1)Will having a GTX 470 make any significant changes to my electric bill? What if I chose a HD 5850 instead? This is an upgrade from my 375 PSU'd computer. 2)What can I do to remedy a hot fermi GTX 470? What fans should I put in my case, Is there a fan that can go on a GTX 470? My new computer will have a full tower Coolermaster HAF Case.

Not really but 375W PSU most likely wont be able to handle it. 5850 is cheaper and less powerful but not by a far but still your PSU might struggle. 2.There arent any aftermarket coolers yet but there will eventually be and there will be nonreference cards with better cooling. And you shouldnt care about the temps, the card is build to run on +90C but unfortunately to my ear the fan makes a lot of noise because even tho it efficient it has to run +60% speeds when playing but if you dont care about the noise then you shouldnt really care about the temps.
Sorry for not being clear: When I meant upgrade, I meant this 470 will include an entirely new computer. I was making a comparison between my old 375W PSU and my new build. Thanks for the clarification too :)

Stop pulling shit from these dumbass benchmarks that use auto fan. wow i go on vacation and this is what i come back to? jesus fuck you guys don't get it, you can't just go around posting non-factual information or being generally too biased. Your opinion becomes shit, nobody listens to you, nobody cares. You're just shitposting. in PC building, you're going to fuck up someones build all because you shitposted. This is the only reason we argue with idiots like you. You know who you are that aside, did the OP decide on anything? ps new fermi stuff comes out 1st of june so that might be something to look at. Probably not though.
Off course it doesnt, what I meant to say is that when playing the fan runs always at +60% and it is rather silent when in idle. That said my temps when playing ~1 hour of GTA and Dirt were somwhere between 80-90C. Anyways better I stop spamming this thread of anti-geforce shit. Ive tried to be as unbiased as I can and btw Im getting a second-hand gtx470 even though I still prefer the 5850 for its value(still cant have too much power ^^).
I hate you with all my guts _machine, but im ordering a HD5870 because you've convinced me, as well as a few other sites. I hope I don't regret this decision.
The fuck did you bump this for
