$500 Gaming Build - Everything set and compatible?

He was going to get the Phenom II X4 940 before he posted, but it's an AM2+ CPU and not compatible with the motherboard. I figured he should get an AM3 board now and then have the option to upgrade it later on.
He's buying a AM3 mobo, so he can get the Phenom II x4 and get this GPU its cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125334
OK, I replaced the GPU and Processor as requested.

That'll do pretty well.
Is that all good?

All right, I assume that's it. It seems like it'd do pretty good. I'm going to go and purchase it right now.

Thanks a lot for the help guys
While I was waiting for my PayPal cash to arrive into my bank account, I noticed this:
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT55TFBGRBOX
If I were to buy that instead of the Quad Core I was going to buy, would it all still be compatible?

It should all still work fine.

if this is for gaming then forget 6 cores, games won't take advantage of the extra 2 cores for a while yet
Also ensure your motherboard is compatible with a 125W processor. I remember trying to upgrade my mobo ( which is 95W max) with a 125W 3.4GHz AMD Phenon II X4 940 and while the motherboard recognised it, it refused to run above 800MHz clock speed (even with AMD cool 'n' Quiet turned off) even the BIOS showed it as 800MHz.
I decided to swap out the 940 phenom II for a 640 Athlon II X4 3GHz (95W), and it runs perfectly.
Just get the 640 or the Phenom II you picked. And GoDong, Newegg doesn't stock retail 630s anymore only OEMs. That means he has to buy a separate heatsink and fan. This will cause it to be a dollar or two more expensive than the 640.
[editline]13th November 2010[/editline]
Don't get the 6-core processor.

I hate how Newegg doesn't say how much the motherboard supports for CPUs. It is safe to assume that any AM3 motherboards above $60 can support up to 95 watts in my opinion. So yeah OP I'll post a new build.
Usually you can find the CPU support list on the mobo manufacturers website.

Thanks.
I also added a 500 GB harddrive since I had cash left over.

So are you sure it'd be a better option then my previous build and they are compatible? Would I be able to run Crysis at max settings for example.
Also, good thing it takes like 3-4 days for my PayPal cash to transfer into my bank account or else I would've bought the previous build.
Just asking, but why do you have 2 disk drives?
Just asking, but why do you have 2 disk drives?
On my current PC? I have 3.
1 for Windows etc. and the 2 for games/music/movies e.g
GTX 460 won't get you far

You only need one. I hope you don't mean that you thought you have to keep the Windows 7 CD inside the disc tray the whole time.
Oh... my bad. I thought he meant hard drive....
Shit, thanks for pointing that out, I didn't notice I set the quantity to two.
GTX 460 won't get you far
What about if I swap it with: EVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Would it make a notable difference?
Yes, a lot
All right, I'll swap it then. I'll have to delete Spinpoint Hard Drive then to maintain my budget so I'll just recycle my hard drive I have right now.

Is that 470 compatible with my motherboard and is my PSU enough?
GTX 460 won't get you far
What are you talking about? A GTX 460 is a pretty damn powerful card for the price. Mine has been quite happy to max out most games I throw at it at 1920x1080 and still give me at least 40+ FPS. Most games will get around 100 I assume, but I use VSync on a few to stop screen tearing.
Sure a GTX 470 is better, but a 460 is damn fine.
GTX 460 won't get you far
GTX 460 is pretty good. I don't know what you're on.
BTW, will that Athlon bottleneck or is it fine on demanding games (GTA IV, Crysis e.g)?
I'm running a somewhat similar build
AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.0GHz Processor.
4GB DDR2 Ram
1GB ATI Radeon HD5750 Vapor-X
I can run Crysis maxxed (no AA, 4xAF) at 30+ fps average (does drop to 20 in some places, but not too often.).
Also I believe your ram, and GPU are faster than mine so you'll probably have quicker loading times, and higher FPS.
BTW, will that Athlon bottleneck or is it fine on demanding games (GTA IV, Crysis e.g)?
You'll get an average of around 36FPS on GTA IV but the game is so badly optimized it struggles on top of the line hardware.
[editline]13th November 2010[/editline]
Also my video card, processor, and ram all score 7.3 in the windows experience index. So for me they run without a bottleneck. The 460 IS more powerful than a 5750 so the CPU will be somewhat of a bottleneck. Though you shouldn't worry about it much, you can cheaply upgrade it in the future.

I doubt their'd be much of a bottleneck with that cpu, if at all. you can always overclock/unlock too.

Ah, thanks a lot for the info. By the way, I changed it to a 470, not a 460.
I doubt their'd be much of a bottleneck with that cpu, if at all. you can always overclock/unlock too.
True, you can unlock the L3 Cache (48-way). From what I've read you can easily overclock to 3.8Ghz on stock cooling...
I've not tried either though, as I've never had something run bad enough for me to need too.

Cool, though I personally wouldnt' see any need too... what monitor do you use?
Ugh. Those CORSAIR Ram sticks just sold out. I'm looking for one at the exact same price ($64.99)
Should I get this: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ?

Hmmm... I might get those sticks, Lifetime warranty seems promising.

I see no problem with those, but I'm not too experienced with ram so best to wait for someone else to post.

I'd probably stick to the 460 instead, unless in the future you plan to upgrade to 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 display.

Don't. Save your money and just get the 460 for now. Then get another one if you decide it isn't enough.
