Better, we have a full transcript of the conversation with the audio. Pasty :words: Linky to MP3 Linky to Article
It looks like he's trying too hard to reduce the damage done to the Brohoster's image, and it's backfiring.
'Crafty' (read:dick) CEOs don't deserve to profit from this sort of behaviour. I hope you slap him one, and all the best for the future. :D (And hmm, long first post)
A new user that can actually write up a great post that's relevant to a topic? Welcome, friend!
I highly suggest your remove this post. I've got my lawyers on the phone drafting up a cease and desist right this moment.
:ohdear:
Why thankee.... I guess? Whilst a new user simply because of this farcical nonsense that's going on here, I thought I'd weigh in and have my say (partly because I run a community that rents a server from Brohoster). Might also clarify a few legal issues, being a law student et al. Firstly, regards the bollocks that is going on here: Matt's bang out of line, and I think that opinion is somewhat resonated here. That said, judgement is slightly reserved until we see the final outcome, but it doesn't look very good at the moment (the threatening calls, immature manner in which this has been handled, and general abysmal treatment of employees rather points this in the absolutely worst direction). Secondly, I also find it interesting that a certain somebody is looking into other acquisitions at the moment... http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1058068 In selling a company that's losing money (apparently) you consolidate your losses and repay debts. Not fanny around looking for ways to waste it. Unless you don't need the money. ...? Thirdly, regard the bullshit legal threats. Like any scared businessman, Matt's first instinct is to run to the lawyers to scare people away from saying anything stupid. The nonsense regard the message left on the phone, and saying there was no consent to record it, is utter drivel. You consent to them recording your message when you start to speak it. You know you're being recorded. Consent via action. Thirdly again: Defamatory statements and the rest - Matt hasn't got a leg to stand on here either, as I don't see anyone being defamatory. It is not defamatory to tell somewhere where else they may wish to host their services, even if an employee and under an NPA. Having read the vast majority of posts here, whilst some statements are not exactly nice toward the silly sod, they are not defamatory as the vast majority are grounded in truth too. You can't defame someone by telling the truth. Finally, the threat to remove the article from Crafthub. You have no reason to do so. Media privilege is quite awesome, and if it's in the public's best interest you can get away with publishing whatever the hell you feel like. This is best used in scenarios where people are covering things up... (also, if you get a small fact wrong that doesn't impact the article as a whole, he can't get it taken down because you've made a small mistake) Finally, JWJ. Whichever bullshit businessman told you that you could not sign a contract under 18 was having you over a barrel. You most certainly can - the whole point of the infancy doctrine is (I quote) 'to protect minors from foolishly squandering their wealth through improvident contracts with crafty adults who would take advantage of them in the marketplace'. Whilst not foolish, you were certainly taken advantage of. I don't know the proceedings that you could look to take, but if he ends up selling Brohost, you've quite feasibly got enough stuff to take at him in court to acquire a proportion of the sales proceeds. If you have a spare dime from what I am sure will be a successful new venture, I suggest you get a bloody lawyer and hit back. Eduardo Saverin (the bloke from The Social Network (the film scene linked a few pages ago) was in a similar situation. He didn't end up going to court. He settled for an unknown sum, but it's probably in the billions. Whilst Brohoster isn't worth that much (sadly), you'd be getting a pretty decent cut of $600k. 'Crafty' (read:dick) CEOs don't deserve to profit from this sort of behaviour. I hope you slap him one, and all the best for the future. :D (And hmm, long first post)
Good post, welcome to Facepunch friend.
Why thankee.... I guess? ... :D (And hmm, long first post)
you sir are the most welcome in my books. My first post here was a thread written in all capital letters, and I'm pretty sure it was dumb enough that it got me banned for a time.
LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE ANOTHER MIRROR!!!! http://www.hohoster.net/audio/article-takedown.mp3 Look at the URL
Can anyone give me a link to the IRC chat?
Can someone other than Matt recap what's happened so far?
Lets find JWJ a lawyer, if he doesn't have one.
Can anyone give me a link to the IRC chat?
irc://irc.esper.net/brohoster (Paste that into your URL bar)
skip the lawyers and legal bullshit, just have that woman yell at matt for the excuses he's putting out and grant everything to JWJ within 30 seconds
And then have it aired on TV around the world for our entertainment.
And then have it aired on TV around the world for our entertainment.
THROW THEM TO THE LIONS
And then have it aired on TV around the world for our entertainment.
I think we can all agree it's better this way
use this method if you are un-able to cancel your order with brohoster.
Shit pretty soon we are gonna need to add a v1 to the title.
skip the lawyers and legal bullshit, just have that woman yell at matt for the excuses he's putting out and grant everything to JWJ within 30 seconds
I hope someone hits Matt over the head with a gavel.
Welp, someone at BroHoster cancelled my account for me. I reset my password today, I tried logging in just now to cancel things, and I couldn't log in. I went to password reset and now it tells me: "No client account was found with the email address you entered"
Holy fuck i didn't hear about this shit what the fuck went on?
I wonder if he contacted garry to remove the thread yet lol [editline]19th June 2011[/editline]
Holy fuck i didn't hear about this shit what the fuck went on?
Read all 25 pages, I promise it's worth it.
I wonder if he contacted garry to remove the thread yet lol
The dumbass probably doesn't realize where garry lives.
Holy fuck i didn't hear about this shit what the fuck went on?
JWJ got fired after signing a business deal with Matt from ClubUptime. He got $5000 US and was let go shortly after turning 18. Andrew, lead support staff, was fired. After Matt let the company go to shit, he's now selling the company for $500k on WebHostingTalk. As it stands, a buyer has bought it and BroHoster will shut down Monday at 10am GMT.
