Supposedly the Galaxy S4 got an award for being 98% conform to the Adobe RGB calibration thing
Will android ever support color calibration? Every android phones have a tint, especially those with OLED screens. I've seen 4 GS3's and 5 HTC One's so far, and they all had different white points and primaries from each other. It's infuriating. Is screen correction that fucking difficult, google? The manufacturers obviously won't hardware calibrate, so it's your job! DO YOUR JOB!
I don't think it's a big priority for them. This enhancement request was filed last October and nobody's taken ownership yet.
ALSO: any noteworthy alternative systems/roms to flash on a nexus7? (i wish i could get windows on this thing but alas it is impossible)

So the One is already yesterday's news. http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-butterfly-s/ 5" screen overclocked processor much bigger battery MicroSD expansion I need this in my life. It's improved on the One in every way (apart from the lack of OIS). Too bad it's gonna be a while before it's out anywhere but Asia.
No LTE.
It's a global phone at the moment by the looks of it. Localised versions will obviously have LTE/4G.
No LTE.
I guess you can say it hasn't evolved for the long term
Im just going by the specs they provided.
Im just going by the specs they provided.
The old Butterfly became the Droid DNA in the US. Same thing will probably happen with this one.
you can ship it to my house for free if you want, but you have to pay for the shipping ;))
Zzzzz

HTC Ones are pretty much clamped correctly but there's white point deviation from phone to phone.

People are just going out of their way to find things to whine about. It's not like you are doing professional graphical design on your mobile phone requiring perfect colour calibration and gamut. [editline]21st June 2013[/editline] However I have actually seen S4s with blue screen tint and S4s with absolutely no colour tinting. I haven't used enough yet to find out exactly why this is.

When you compare the two closely there's a pretty drastic difference.
This is gonna be a pretty long post, so I hope it's okay to post here. I have several questions about rooting and backing up my USB port-less Android tablet but I'm not really sure where to begin. Maybe you guys can help me out. My (current) goal is to back up the firmware that's currently on the tablet so that I can later restore to it in the event that something goes wrong. The only problem is I seem to have a newer version than the latest-offered version that was posted on the manufacturer's website, but the latest-offered version doesn't work for some reason. To make matters worse, the manufacturer's website is no longer online so there's no chance that the firmware I have will ever be uploaded. I can't find it on the internet anywhere, so apparently nobody has a copy. In other words, I need to root my tablet so that I can make a backup of the stock firmware to revert to if necessary. The tablet in question is a Panimage Media Tablet R79RT2W5 that I picked up for $20. Before you tell me not to bother or that it's a piece of crap, don't worry; I'm VERY aware. The entire reason I bought this to begin with was BECAUSE it was a piece of crap. I was hoping that at the very least I could screw around with it and use it as a testbench to learn Android programming on with hardware I don't care about possibly bricking. (In other words, I wanted a cheap tablet to play around with so I wouldn't risk bricking my phone.) I'll try to give you all the possible information I have on it. If you need any more information, pictures, screenshots, uploaded files, etc. I'll try to get what I can for you.
Panimage Media Tablet Model Number R79RT2W5 (according to the physical sticker on back) Model Number R79RTW5 (according to the 'About Device' page; note the lack of the 2 in the model number there.) 256MB of RAM Firmware Version 1.6 (Donut, apparently?) Kernel Version 2.6.29 Build Number WMT2.1.7_PD 2GB Internal Flash Memory (according to the box) - Apparently it's a Gome Flytouch clone? - It has a whole bunch of software made by WonderMedia Technlogies. (Which makes sense considering that it has a WMT-based processor.) - It has "App Market" com.wonderappstore instead of Google Market. In other words, I basically have to sideload apks to get anything worth using.
Things to take note of: - It has no USB port so I can't hook it directly to a computer (meaning regular ADB won't work), but it does take microSD cards. - I can sideload applications, but they need to be able to work on 1.6, obviously. - I have FTPServer installed so I can send files to/from my computer, but I can't access protected directories. - I have run BOTH Universal Androot and z4root. Neither program rooted the tablet. z4root DID install SuperUser (which I'm assuming only worked because USB debugging was turned on), but SuperUser doesn't work. - I'm willing to work with terminals or command prompts so long as I have someone able to walk me through the process. Is rooting this thing a possibility? Alternatively, the way that the firmware update process works is that you put a folder named "script.zip" on the root of the microSD card and then boot the tablet with the card inserted. The tablet will then proceed to automatically install the firmware on it. Would it be possible to take advantage of this function to allow me to run a script that will back up the firmware to the microSD card before it boots that I would then later be able to restore onto the tablet as necessary? I can upload a copy of the latest script.zip I have so that you can take a look at it if you'd like.

I don't notice it on its own, but if its next to my monitor or Nexus 7 it really stands out. A bit annoying but I don't care enough to actually fix it.
This is gonna be a pretty long post, so I hope it's okay to post here
[SUP][del]Apparently rooting it is possible, but once you click the link in the first post it directs you to a forum which you need an account for, so I can't verify it. However I wouldn't be surprised if the files required to root it were on filehosts that already deleted them etc.[/del][/SUP] fuck my post, didn't realize this would wipe the newer firmware that you have on your device already, which you want a backup of :suicide:
Yes, rooting voids the warranty. Some people (inlcuding me) do it anyway because if your phone still boots, you can usually un-root it, and if it doesn't boot, Samsung usually won't be able to tell it was rooted.
I can confirm the last part, my GS3 4G lost all kind of SIM recognition after rooting for some reason and I didn't even bother flash back to original rom or unroot it before sending it to repair and I got it back fine.
Moiré pattern, yo
It was non-existant on the RAW image/high res version, yeah moire happens whenever your dealing with lower resolutions.
Reminds me of the time I connected to facepunch on a Nokia 6230 [T]http://i.imgur.com/vB8LesV.jpg[/T] Back during v5 I think, or maybe the number is cut off

Anyway I never noticed the screen tint on my S3 until I'd go in front of my monitor I'm not really picky about screens, if I can read from it, it's fine with me
Guys you don't need to keep showing off your white screens. My new GS3 screen is also white (or neutral greyish depending on brightness). But I'm too lazy to take a pic. EDIT: In fact, my six year old monitor has worse calibration than my new GS3 screen.
