What do you need Odin for?
Follow the official guide! http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9300
For flashing the recovery to install CM, dingus
What are some of the coolest/most useful things I can do with root?

The most useful I can think of must be nandroid and a form of adblock. Tasker?
Greenify is worth looking into.

I can't really think of any useful apps which requires root other than system tweaker tools. Cheat engine equivalent apps can be fun to tool around with.

Titanium backup (backup apps and there data, even more useful for when an app updates and breaks everything), removing bloatware apps (titanium can do this too), wirelessly use a PS3 controller (unless you have a Sony phone), Custom ROMs with extra feature such as music playback with the screen off via volume buttons (there's an app that does it but it's not free), and theming your phone if you're into that.

Heimdall suite is recommended in the official guide.

Basically everything your phone is already capable of, but prevented from doing.

Clock down your phone when you don't need the power to extend the battery life. Underclock it by a factor of 10 when the screen is off and you save quite a lot of battery (CPUtuner)
nvm i got CM10.1 Working by Installing it over TWRP and Using a Nightly Build for the international version
that status bar carrier text. fuck everything about that forever.
Where's that guy that was so super stoked for the Moto X? I feel like he wasn't here ever since the first leaks of the real thing surfaced and it's basically a Nexus 4 with more software features (moto magic derpness)
I'm lurking. Just havent been posting. I'm still pretty excited. Not many of the rumors (many of which were dumb anyway, like "choose your own RAM") have panned out, But I'm still looking at it for my next purchase for 3 reasons.
1) The price is gonna be unbeatable for a phone that's better than the one I have now and about the same if not slightly better than the N4.
2) Near-bone-stock android and quick updates.
3) (The biggie) No carrier bloat or locks.
[editline]15th July 2013[/editline]
The next DROIDs look awesome, though. Too bad they're locked and bloated.
Heimdall suite is recommended in the official guide.
I don't know about the guy we were originally talking about, but in my case anything I tried to do in Heimdall was a no-op. As in, Heimdall detected my device, and said it was all good when I told it to flash recovery or whatever, but my phone didn't react to it at all. The only thing that's been successful on my phone is ODIN.
ha! I summoned sdwise.
IMO so far the only thing that looks better on the Moto X compared to the N4 is the camera. Everything else seems to be really really close to the N4. There's of course the SW features but I'll be damned if Moto Magic isn't ported to some other phone within a week of Moto X release.
True. But the price will be what gets me. I've already decided that I'm getting my next phone retail and if I can get a Motorola built Nexus 4 for less than $300, I won't be able to resist.
I think Motorola should have a bald eagle + american flag back cover as an option for the Moto X. For patriotism and stuff. The "Made in USA" bit is gonna be one of its large selling points, so why not crank it up to 11? :v:
If you have a phone with physical buttons and you want soft keys, you can enable that with root.
As long as you're using a 4.0+ phone/device.
My ROM lets me do that whenever I want from the settings. :v:

I would, but those plus physical buttons would look kinda dumb...

Lol On startup the tone is a Bald Eagle screeching and the word "Freedom!" being shouted.

Could somebody Explain me the Terminal Part of the Official CM10.1 Install explain i dont find a tutorial and i seemingly cant figure it out

Hmm so apparently my phone isnt the T Mobile Brand like it is branded but it shows as i9300
You don't have a T-Mobile US GS3, you have the international variant. If you try to flash a US GS3 variant ROM you will hard brick your phone.
I would, but those plus physical buttons would look kinda dumb...

I would use it but it takes up some space on my already small screen.

The default ringtone would be this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhnUgAaea4M

I must disagree. The lyrics to "Born in the USA" are decidedly anti-America.

ok i have discovered a cool phenomenon that makes some things easier
i have my Galaxy SII skyrocket to my left
i am using in-browser Kies Air to make things easer and texting not as tedious (i replaced the touch screen+glass, but the gel got a little disturbed so stupid me decided to put tape over it and now parts of the screen doesnt work)
i have speakers plugged into my computer, and headphones plugged into my speakers.
i noticed that when my cellphone receives a text, that Kies Air is first to notify (~2-4 seconds before my phone vibrates)
since i have this new audio configuration, at times, i get distortion in my audio whenever my phone sends OR receives a text message through either the phone itself or kies air
i tried it with my sisters iphone, doesnt work. my dad's phone, razor, nada
i found use in it, as in kies air actually makes a sound when i get a message
[editline]15th July 2013[/editline]
ok update:
putting the phone closer makes more of a sound, and i just remembered that this used to happen all the time with our old, large, shitty speakers

What part of your screen doesn't work. I have the same problem. The area that the second row of the keyboard occupies doesn't work.
What part of your screen doesn't work. I have the same problem. The area that the second row of the keyboard occupies doesn't work.
a little below half the screen, the first and second row of the keyboard, and an area that's 1/4 of the way in from the top
its all in horizintal strips across the screen

And I thought I had it bad. It seems horizontal strips are the way it breaks. The worst part for me is that for some reason, it still detects my touch, just on the edges of the strip, so typing is hard as fuck as about 30% of the time I try to hit a key on the second row I end up with a space. Top tip tho: You can change the key height on swiftkey so I can still type somewhat.
it took me about a month to get used to the fact that i have to type by touching the edges of the keys. i still make mistakes, but i can decently type
