I just flashed CM10.1.2 on my Samsung Note (i717). I've only had it like this for about a day, so I can't judge battery life(plus I just got a new battery like 5 minutes ago) or stability. But it hasn't taken long to see how much better than stock JB it is. Official JB was laggy and unresponsive. My lock screen would sometimes not respond out of sleep and apps would run out of memory. Keyboard was also very slow in most apps. It wasn't even rooted. Though it seems like the camera might not be all that great now(in CM), which is disappointing since I use it a lot. But Extremely Responsive > Better camera
So, this is my first flash and I've never had a rooted phone. Any suggestions for mods/apps?
I've heard a lot about this, for some reason people keep having the display broken even though the glass is just fine.
[editline]17th July 2013[/editline]
Also, lots of people just having the glass shatter in their pocket, which is just as terrifying.
Yeah, I had my AMOLED crack without a single scratch on the glass. It depends how you drop it; I dropped it on its side.
glass is definitely wrecked, you can feel pieces shift about if your run your finger on it, along with the little glassy fringes that are probably awful to be touching
[editline]e[/editline]
and you can see the gaps where glass exploded away pretty well if you look at light in the reflection
Well, yeah. As I've mentioned before, Gorilla Glass has great hardness (scratch resistance) but lousy toughness (ability to absorb energy without fracturing). That's always going to be a problem with glass, and it's even a problem with diamond. The reason that Samsung phones in particular are so fragile has to do with the design of the frame.
Even a better reason for my decision to get a pouch for my HTC One. Anyone know a good site that sells simple pouches?
Checking out the website mentioned on the image.
[editline]18th July 2013[/editline]
Well that was misleading, only mouse and mouse-pads on that site.
Get a TPU case and glass screen protector. It will save your phone from screen shattering.
Well this looks like a proper upgrade from the last one with a camera and headphone jack at the top!
Might consider getting it for university if the price stays around the same as the initial launch price, although that may be a bit unlikely.
It's like 30 USD more than last time I think.

B-b-but /r/android told me plastic made it invincible!!1111oneoneone
Plastic can absorb a little more energy compared to metal, but ultimately the S3 and S4 are so compact that there's nowhere for the energy to disperse. It's like a car with no crumple zones.

problem is I had a pretty bulky case and it did nothing for me. Again, likely a stone punching it with a single point on the screen right at the edge there, that's a hard one to get around.

Normally I would create a bunker for my phone, but it would be a sin to cover up the metal uni-body 24/7 on the One...

Well that's not too bad. Hopefully when price is adjusted for the Norwegian or British market it's still reasonable.
At this point I just feel like gluing my S3 to my hand.
I ran into a problem today, after I turned on my phone again after an exam it showed my external sd card as empty. Hooked up the phone now on my computer and windows explorer tells me this now.

However, when I open the sd card it shows as empty. Any way to get my data back?
Try looking around in \storage\emulated, if you're rooted.

That's the point. Cases need to be a soft material. The phone itself is too cramped for that, which is why it's usually a much better idea to use stiff materials to prevent impacts from going straight to the display glass. Samsung also no longer has the magnesium midframe design to save on thickness, which means the entire phone is just mounted on the back of the display.

Great. I don't know why but now I have that feeling of being ripped off. It's like buying the old version of Nexus 7 wasn't the best idea. I know that everything is upgrading but still.

At the least, invest in a glass screen protector. It makes a big difference.
Play Music All Access has come to Australia! Officially that is.

How long ago did you buy it?
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BPZrrebCQAE8JiW.jpg[/t]
Got this baby today for my Nexus (and other devices). It's a huge 11200 mah external battery from Japan. Only $28. That should be more than enough juice for my Nexus and iPod. And they said I couldn't get good battery life...
How long ago did you buy it?
Somewhere in January this year.
Music sometimes skips on my phone. It's downloaded music from All Access. The skips are not problems with the file, as I can rewind and it works. How do I stop this? It's like a quick pause for a split second, then continues.

Yeah, good point. I've opened one and it's 90% display.
I still cannot believe that a phone like the One lags on scrolling. There are no mods to disable scroll cache and it's driving me nuts.
Is there a way to get toggles on the slide to unlock thing, like a thing to use the flash as a torch?

Android as a whole needs a huge performance overhaul

Fuckin' quad cores and 2GB of RAM in our phones and everything is still not snappy as hell
what a waste
Seeder is a good app. Speeds everything up. So do faster animation mods. I only see lag on Chrome and tumblr and Facebook.
I think at this point performance has more to do with App level software than any OS level problems.
That random seeder was bullshit, arcee posted it on g+. Or are you talking about something else?
Seeder's a placebo. It forces your CPU to run at higher clock speeds all the time.

My phone is fast as fuck right after a clean update/install. Once I put my apps back then it's back to the usual.

It would have been better if Android used native code for its apps instead of having them to run in a virtual machine (Dalvik).
Hell look at Windows phone 7/8. even the oldest models run smoother than most modern Android phones with quad cores, when it comes to UI stuff. (and yes I'm aware that the UI only runs on a single thread)
But the damage has already been made, and I don't think Google will/can ditch the Virtual machine concept.
