fuck if i'm just updating CM I don't even need to do anything other than select the zip in CWM
basically, yeah. If you're going between different versions entirely though, probably a good idea to full wipe everything.
Decided I didn't really like Sense 5 so I put Nova on and customized it up [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23271099/screen/Screenshot_2013-05-06-17-12-25.png[/t]
holy shit the android central app is awesome. I'm looking to sell my Dual boot HP Touchpad to some computer wizard I know. I'm looking to do a total wipe of the thing so that nothing of mine can be recovered. Is there a DBAN equivalent for android/webOS?
basically, yeah. If you're going between different versions entirely though, probably a good idea to full wipe everything.
I went from 10 to 10.1 and all I had to do was reinstall gapps. Not sure how much of a different version that is though. I even got off my ass and updated CWM so if I wanted to install an official build instead of a home-brewed zip I can just hit "updates" on my home screen (Apex Launcher shortcut to the activity, hell yeah) and tap a button et voila. Long as you stay in the same ROM and aren't doing anything particularly exotic, it's almost certain to be a one-tap operation now, and I love it for that. It's only switching between ROMs that's interesting. I'm just wondering how XDA got the idea that completely wiping an entire thing three times is going to be any more effective than wiping it just the once. It's not like wiping your ass where you sometimes need multiple passes to get everything out of there.
So 2 months back I got a Gz'One Commando as a free upgrade from Verizon First android device. It's a pretty slow phone, 800MHz... Would it be worth rooting? Could I/would it be worth putting Jellybean on? If I put Jellybean on it, can I strip it down so it'll run half decent?
Lol as far as I know there are no custom ROMs at all for that phone. You could root it using SuperOneClick but that wouldn't really accomplish anything unless you want root for apps like Titanium Backup.
I went from 10 to 10.1 and all I had to do was reinstall gapps. Not sure how much of a different version that is though.
That's like Android 4.1 to 4.2 I think.
My HTC One got here and is activating now!
Check for gap, dead pixels, go to dialer and dial *#*#3424#*#* and run all possible function tests (don't both with the battery test). If you don't have any defects, enjoy your phone. [editline]6th May 2013[/editline]
She was out on the beach and put her phone under her chair, bam, water dripped down on it and broke it. She was out in the forest, tenting with a couple of friends on a rainy day. Bam, phone broken. She spilled a glass of water on it. Bam, broken. She thought it was broken due to water, but it was not, but as unclever as she is, she put it in the god damn microwave. She managed to drop it in the toilet when she was going to sit down. It was in her back pocket and it just flew out when she bent down. She was on the phone while it was literally a storm outside. The rain killed it. What phones were broken in the process? Four god damn Galaxy S2's. One iPhone 4S. And one Galaxy S3. [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] My title fits my girlfriends situation. :v:
Holy fuck you made the right choice to recommend the Xperia Z, the One would've been fucking dead within days. The One's back cover is not perfectly sealed with the display, and there's the speakers/mic holes for things to just seep in and destroy everything. If your GF can't keep things dry, the Xperia Z is the best choice bar none. [editline]6th May 2013[/editline] Also I've already used 13 GB on my One. A huge amount of it (6 GB of it) is app data and backups. I would toss the fucking GS4 out a window if I could only use less than 9 GB, I'm so done with having to do stupid bullshit like constantly move data to a slow, shitty microSD card and micromanaging my storage. Seriously, the solution to this whole storage issue is not a microSD card, the solution is for OEMs to stop cheaping out and give 64 GB baseline, 128 GB for the next tier. MicroSD is just an easy excuse for OEMs to avoid spending the money on extra NAND, HTC used to pull the same crap back in the days of the Sensation until losing microSD forced them to start shipping 32 GB standard with the One X. Now Samsung is pulling the same crap. It's just so bad.

Yeah I did that and a pixel checking app and everything seems to be good, no gaps or hardware defects other than a very VERY slight gap on the top which seems normal? I can't even fit my fingernail in it though
Yeah I did that and a pixel checking app and everything seems to be good, no gaps or hardware defects other than a very VERY slight gap on the top which seems normal? I know it sucks but it's better in the long run to get it replaced now under warranty. Even if I'm wrong, err on the side of caution and get the best device you can.

Besides, ever had a phone die on you and you had some important data on it? wave goodbye to that if it isn't on a sd card.

I personally haven't used up my 16GB yet, and I've been using this phone for one and half year. I'm not saying 16GB should be the standard, but 64GB baseline seems overkill to me. Sure, you should have the option, but there's no reason to put (physical) stuff in there that most people won't use.

Next Android thread should be named "The other kind of Storage Wars"
Eh, the post count has been increased so it's gonna take a while.
Google really need to make a standardised application for performing device backups, syncs etc. It is shit having to do Nandroid and then copy and paste files onto computer [editline]7th May 2013[/editline]
Front pocket not big enough to hold the phone with skinny jeans.
Putting phone in back pocket has got to be one of the stupidest things I have seen. Everybody I know who did that ended up cracking their iPhone screens. It'd also be really uncomfortable to sit on your phone. To think about it, why the fuck do people put things in the back pockets other than flat things like train tickets? Do they not feel the pain of sitting on wallets/phones?
I don't feel pain sitting on my wallet.
He means the pain of the anthropomorphised phone cracking and breaking while you're sitting and/or the huge tumor it forms on your ass when you're sitting.
He means the pain of the anthropomorphised phone cracking and breaking while you're sitting and/or the huge tumor it forms on your ass when you're sitting.
So I do. I always have my wallet in my back pocket, doesn't bothers me.
So I do. I always have my wallet in my back pocket, doesn't bothers me.
Are you permanently broke or something?
How slight? If it's thick enough to get a sheet of paper in it, swap it. If it is hard to tell whether it's a shadow or a gap, keep it.
These don't sound like build issues of a device supposedly built as well as the iPhone. The front pieces being glued on and falling off during a drop, and gaps in the construction. I still haven't decided on the One and I do not feel like dealing with an RMA on a $650 phone. How common are gaps in build or dead pixels? I'll be using an eye loupe to check for the latter.
He means the pain of the anthropomorphised phone cracking and breaking while you're sitting and/or the huge tumor it forms on your ass when you're sitting.
I don't go anywhere without my wallet in my back pocket and you don't even notice it after about 10 minutes I have a set rule for carrying stuff, wallet in back right pocket, phone in front right pocket, iPod in front left pocket, occasional spare change will go in my left back pocket, I won't put anything valuable in an item of clothing like a hoodie because I might take it off and then leave the valuable item lying around with my hoodie :v:

Yeah my iPhone was stolen from my back pocket at a music festival.

I don't put anything in my back pocket. It's uncomfortable and it's not safe.
