android device manager is already starting to be implemented in the newest google play services
[QUOTE=MaxOfS2D;41696530]Actually it turns out that the GPU inside of it is a beast. The CPU is good too.
Thing is most people don't care about GPUs so...[/QUOTE]
The GPU is the same as the N4, and the CPU is also the same but only a dual core, but uses newer, slightly faster Krait 300 cores which are also clocked slightly higher on top of that. IIRC the N4 almost never spins up all the cores during normal use, so the MotoX might actually be faster in most situations.
[editline]3rd August 2013[/editline]
Not to mention it has the other "language processing" and "contextual computing" cores to further lighten the workload on the main cores.
The lack of 1080p (which imo is just nerdstats for nerds when it comes to tiny ass 5" displays) makes the GPU do less work too.
Yeah, it ain't quad core for real CPU usage, but it'll still be snappy enough for most people.
Considering an Android based device to replace my dead 32GB ipod touch. Any recommendations? I've heard that the Galaxy player 5.0 is a good choice (and can get one refurbished for $130 on Walmart.com)

It's worth sticking with Apple if going for a PMP.

You could always buy an old Galaxy S and install a 64GB µSD card and Voodoo Sound mod.
Can anyone lend a hand here with this? I flashed MIUI (gingerbread still cause my phone sucks) a month ago or so and last week I stopped getting signal on my phone. I've cleared the cache, fixed permissions, cleared dalvik, restored a nandroid and switched ROMS from scratch but I still can't get any signal. Putting in my SIM card in another device it works fine.
I'm on a LG-P999 (T-Mobile G2x) currently running CM7 here while testing and Google didn't seem to help out much.

Don't. Get a used GS2 or something.
[editline]3rd August 2013[/editline]
Hell, a used GS3 works great too, check Swappa.
[QUOTE=iCole;41688294]And it goes back to fucking FROYO! Who still uses that? Seriously the Froyo userbase has to be so tiny by this point.[/QUOTE]
2.5% as of August 1.
Fun fact: Fido (Canadian provider) still sells [URL="http://www.fido.ca/web/Fido.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=devices&PhoneSKU=T589BLKF"]a phone with Froyo that can't be upgraded[/URL]. I have no idea why they still sell that Galaxy Q when they have way better budget phones: the HTC Desire C (also $0 on the Tab24 agreement) or the Galaxy AceIIx ($20 on the Tab24 agreement).
(Fido's weird phone lineup is just one reason I switched to Bell)
Goddammit, why am I such a fucking idiot?
Literally had a perfectly fine phone as of 24 hours ago. I have the full dump of /data so I have nothing to lose, but I've wasted an entire day trying to get this phone to work with latest firmware. I don't know why I do this to myself. If wiping the sdcard doesn't work I'm going to be so pissed.
[editline]3rd August 2013[/editline]
Wiping the SD partition worked. Time to restore everything back on to it and hope that it doesn't shit the bed.

ಠ_ಠ but it's 2013. This information hurts to read.
In other news, I wish Google would admit they fucked up 4.3, and release build JSS15J for everybody, not just for the new Nexus 7.
edit: They could release 4.3.1 with Android Device Manager (lost phone tracking) as a system app, and base it all off build JSS15J.
Does data and stuff like that stick when you do OTA updates in vanilla AOSP? I ask because the latest 4.3 version of PA would not boot when I tried it yesterday. My 4.2.2 backup didn't boot either, because of the new radio and bootloader, so I ended up going with stock 4.3.
If you're on stock, OTA updates don't wipe your phone (data stays etc).
Flashing factory images does.

what went wrong with 4.3?

tl;dr Google engineer misunderstood a bunch of commits which ended up in Google releasing two builds of 4.3. The Nexus 4 build is missing a few things such as a part of the delayed notifications fix and some kernel GPU commits.
The stupid part is that N4 kernel devs now need to make two separate kernels if they want both stock and custom ROM users happy.

Wow, google messed up big time with that. Can't they just re-write the kernel so that they have one which works for both situations?
Custom kernel devs? Probably could, but would take way too much time so they went the "two kernels" route instead.
Google? Same answer as above.
my dad got an htc one
it's awesome
obligatory browser tab question
i did not test that
i am not butthurt over tabs anymore
[editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
well not VERY butthurt
You didn't test the speakers yet, did you?
I mean you're still alive :v:
[QUOTE=iCole;41708272]You didn't test the speakers yet, did you?

yes i did
quality soviet engineering meant that the building did not topple when the phone played music
Media consumption without having to cup your hand for audio is a pretty big deal for me now.
Seriously, I may never buy a phone again that doesn't have front-facing speakers because of the HTC One.
I'm just glad somebody other than Apple made a phone with speakers worth using, let alone the position of them
The speaker on the Sony Xperia Z is horrible
Do you use the speakers on phones often though, I'v only used them once or twice to listen to news. I just tend to use headphones otherwise
Even the people i know with HTC one's almost never use them from what i'v heard
I use them if i'm trying to show my friends something on my phone
[editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
And also it's nice having a clear/loud speaker when my phone rings

I use it to show people stuff, and it's a phone alarm that can actually wake me, and I use it to listen to music while I'm in the shower.
I guess my point was If I've payed over £300 for a device I expect the speakers to not sound like somebody farting through a walkie talkie
That made me laugh harder than it should have.
Also, the tablet I'm holding right now is hot as fuck.
Whose idea was it to set the clock speed to maximum whenever you touch the screen?
