Get the S4. [sp]Not really. HTC One speakers. That is all.[/sp]
Also dat HTC unibody. I love the feel of it, and from what i'v seen from a friends One, it can take a beating
It feels amazing in the hand. And theoretically speaking it should be able to take a beating, but I won't be testing that out any time soon. :v:

I almost cried when I dropped it without a case and got a few tiny chips on that sexy body.
And HTC also apparently has terrible customer support. (Example: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1kd2gt/why_ill_never_buysupport_htc_again/ ). Although this may be regional/rare. I for example have terrible experience with Samsung warranty repairs, although most people say it's pretty good. And I would be VERY VERY afraid of HTC abandoning software support very soon.
I bet that incident is more like the exception rather than the rule. Will be interesting to see how long HTC will keep up with software support this time around seeing as they have a GPE of the One they need to commit to as well.
I almost cried when I dropped it without a case and got a few tiny chips on that sexy body.
My heart froze when a cat walked on my S3 screen. Normally i'd have the flip cover covering, but i had it off for like 30 sec to see if any new emails had gotten in. Cat chose that time to jump up and step on it. Thank fuck it didn't have it's claws out
owning a phablet is hard work, I have to plan out the different pants I wear on days I go out in public so I have pants that can actually fit my phone
There are heaps of apps that use the S4's IR blaster, do they work or is it weird proprietery shit?
No idea to be honest. There are lots of apps but most of them have hideous UI's and or come from sketchy developers. There was this Smart IR app that looked amazing and had a version for the HTC One but all of their apps don't exist in the play store anymore for some reason. They were even featured on Android Central. I'll keep looking though.
Htc one why? 1. Touchwiz Cripples The GS4, doesn't only lag & stutter, but its slower than the Htc One in switching between apps, returning to home screen & the Gs4 Snapdragon 600 has is 200MHz Oc higher than the One. O_o 2. The Htc one has that Solid premium Feel but it will scratch easy & the Gs4 is the opposite 3. audio quality on the Htc one is amazing
invest in manpurses
I should invent a sort of carrying bag that has a little battery and cable (removable for machine wash of course) you can use to charge your phone. Holds about two or three phone batteries worth, and can be charged by plugging into the wall. We'll call them "satchel charges."
Eh, TouchWiz is like the only framework that actually improves performance.
Not what I was seeing on the GS4. Lots and lots of microstuttering.
A friend who fixes phones for a living just told me to avoid the HTC like the plague. Anyone have similar experiences?
I don't see why he would say avoid it. It might be because if you drop the One on it's side or back, it's going to dent or scratch very easily. I would get a case.
Htc one why? 1. I had a choice between the HTC One or the GS4. The One had a very premium feel, felt great in the hand, and it did have awesome sound quality. Both had pretty equal performance in speed and gaming etc. In the end, the GS4 was the winner because of it's features and touchwiz is smooth as hell. (despite the occasional microstutters)
How many of the galaxy S4 features do you really use though? I reckon the hover touch is useless (I got annoyed really quickly when trying it in the store) maybe the multiple window thing is useful, but I'd see that being more useful in a tablet than a phone.
How many of the galaxy S4 features do you really use though? Added benefit to this feature is that the screen's sensitivity to finger distance can be cranked up with a checkbox, specifically so you can use the phone while wearing gloves without the need for capacitive fabric. I'm not sure how to use multi-window at all but I don't see the need for it screen mirroring is nice if you've got a compatible samsung TV, though it lags a second or two behind on the TV so don't plan on gaming with it smart pause/scroll/stay/rotate I don't touch because they're gimmicky and I know how to do what I need to do manually in the cases (and would prefer actual control). Plus, I THINK they don't like me because I wear glasses. I presume these also drain your battery like hell
Not what I was seeing on the GS4. Lots and lots of microstuttering.
Must have changed then, it was amazing for performance up to the GSIII.
A friend who fixes phones for a living just told me to avoid the HTC like the plague. Anyone have similar experiences?
I'm just judging this from the iFixit teardown but it looks very difficult to disassemble and then reassemble with everything functioning properly. I've taken apart and fixed dozens of phones and this looks very difficult but perhaps not impossible. Being able to fix it is something that should be a part of someone's decision process on what phone to get but it isn't extremely important. It's getting harder and harder nowadays to fix phones because everything is getting smaller and being adhered instead of screwed into place. So far I love the One. Amazing construction, feels good in the hand, and the speakers are just god like. Oh and it's extremely snappy, with and without Sense.
Well I ended up going with the S4 since they're overnighting it. I'm so sick of this shitty Razr Maxx, I'd rather just have a great phone now instead of waiting weeks for a maybe better one. Got a case as well.

This is what it takes to take apart a HTC One, one of the steps is to literally permanently damage the casing. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+Teardown/13494/1
How many of the galaxy S4 features do you really use though? I reckon the hover touch is useless (I got annoyed really quickly when trying it in the store) maybe the multiple window thing is useful, but I'd see that being more useful in a tablet than a phone.
You'd be suprised. Multi-windows is actually very useful, it works well on the gs4 especially. I don't use hover touch that much actually. It's cool, but I don't use it on a daily basis. Smart pause/smart scroll can be useful to some degree. But ultimately, I don't use it that much either. Plus smart scroll is a pain to use cause you have to hold the phone at a certain angle so it can detect your eyes, if you tilt the phone then it can't be used. Also daijitsu is right, having those features on causes lag/microstutters and drains your battery so goddamn fast.
Must have changed then, it was amazing for performance up to the GSIII.
Don't take my word on it, but it's probably because Samsung build their devices that powerful. To run TouchWiz without lag.
does anyone actually use their phone speakers regularly
Apparently lots of people do. I don't. I use earphones most of the time for personal listening, and if I'm gonna be playing tunes at a party I'll bring a portable Bluetooth speaker or just plug my phone into the hi-fi.
Apparently lots of people do. I don't. The speakers on the One is powerful enough by itself to reproduce sound in a noisy/big environment without imploding on itself.

It's just one feature that can be supplemented in other phones. I play music for other people with my speakers maybe once a year. The rest of the times, I'm plugging it into the awesome stereo system.
owning a phablet is hard work, I have to plan out the different pants I wear on days I go out in public so I have pants that can actually fit my phone
I want my next phone to be a phablet because I can't be bothered to own both a phone and a tablet [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
How many of the galaxy S4 features do you really use though? I reckon the hover touch is useless (I got annoyed really quickly when trying it in the store) maybe the multiple window thing is useful, but I'd see that being more useful in a tablet than a phone.
Multi window is amazingly useful with any chatting applications, ESPECIALLY Skype. Multi window will be less useful if you don't root though. There's an app on the market that makes it so you can enable any app of your choice for multi-window (otherwise the app has to explicitly support the feature)
Quick question, I'm running Clockworkmod recovery on my GS2 and I'm switching providers soon, shortly after the switch I want to completely format my phone, the USB storage where all my pictures and music is saved, and restore the phone so all of the apps are gone too. I've noticed there's a folder called Clockworkmod in my USB storage though, so will my recovery system be affected by the format? Also I'm using official O2 firmware, once I switch will I be prompted to switch to another firmware version? [editline]16th August 2013[/editline] I should really read up on how the whole memory system works on an android.
