Quick question, I'm running Clockworkmod recovery on my GS2 and I'm switching providers soon, shortly after the switch I want to completely format my phone, the USB storage where all my pictures and music is saved, and restore the phone so all of the apps are gone too. I've noticed there's a folder called Clockworkmod in my USB storage though, so will my recovery system be affected by the format? Also I'm using official O2 firmware, once I switch will I be prompted to switch to another firmware version? [editline]16th August 2013[/editline] I should really read up on how the whole memory system works on an android.
when u say format do u mean - 1. wipe device & reflash stock rom with Odin 2. format device though Cwm if 1. yes, you will go back to stock recovery if 2. then no The Ota firmware is released by O2 only so you will need to flash the stock rom of your new provider in order to get futher Ota Updates, of you could just flash the stock Sgs2 firmware & get updates directly from samsung you can find stock roms here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
I just got a nexus 7 for $120, did I do well? This will be the first phone or tablet I've ever owned.
I just got a nexus 7 for $120, did I do well? This will be the first phone or tablet I've ever owned.
If it's gen 1, probably. Install 4.3 on it so you get all the TRIM benefits and it will be a decent performer. If it's gen 2, damn nice find.
smart pause/scroll/stay/rotate I don't touch because they're gimmicky and I know how to do what I need to do manually in the cases (and would prefer actual control). Plus, I THINK they don't like me because I wear glasses. I presume these also drain your battery like hell
I use smart stay on my S3 and there's no noticeable difference in battery use. I assume smart scroll would hit your battery pretty hard though. Smart Stay only takes a picture right before the screen would normally turn off so it's basically no power at all.
There are heaps of apps that use the S4's IR blaster, do they work or is it weird proprietery shit? [editline]15th August 2013[/editline] Should have drawn Facebook as an obese couch whale and have the droid say to it "Okay lets go" and the Facebook briefly stops eating from its big bag of chips to say "In a sec". Or basically something like that.
[T]http://i.imgur.com/KmubOlG.png[/T]
Thanks for the advice guys, I'm leaning toward the HTC. Someone play devil's advocate and convince me to get the S4.
If you take landscape photos, the One blows. If you like to change batteries, get extended batteries like ZeroLemons, or use microSD, the One sucks. If you want Touchwiz, absolute contrast, and saturated colors on your screen, get the S4. That's really all I have. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
That reviewer has no idea what they are talking about. They tout the "more even exposure and accurate colors" of the One when in reality it has more blown out highlights and an incorrect whitebalance. They also compare shots with the S4 that supposedly show off the One's better low light performance; however, the Gs4 and One are metered against two different points so all it shows is that the One blows out it's highlights and the Gs4 doesn't. But again, they were metered differently so the point is moot. They also constantly talk about the One's more "realistic" shots which has no bearing whatsoever on the quality of the camera and honestly what one person thinks is realistic another might find too cartoony, or too saturated or wahsed out. It is a fairly biased review by someone who doesn't fully grasp how to compare cameras equally.
To be fair, the One consistently has lower ISO and faster shutter speed in every situation. Low light is no competition. I've taken test shots with the GS4 and it's just clearly worse. Way more noise, and less visible detail. The One is just clearly meh in daylight though. That's just the cost of fewer megapixels. Oh, and OIS is a huge asset, full stop. Video recording basically goes to the One just because the GS4 can't use its resolution advantage unless cropping the sensor. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
And HTC also apparently has terrible customer support. (Example: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1kd2gt/why_ill_never_buysupport_htc_again/ ). Although this may be regional/rare. I for example have terrible experience with Samsung warranty repairs, although most people say it's pretty good. And I would be VERY VERY afraid of HTC abandoning software support very soon.
Going to put this out, I know some people that can escalate cases. If people are getting poor service from HTC, shoot me a PM. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
Eh, TouchWiz is like the only framework that actually improves performance.
Back in the GS2/GS3 it totally did. Now for some reason it's the opposite. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
AFAIK it's Impossibru to disassemble & the htc one without damaging the poly-carbonate housing, which makes it impossibru to repair without ordering new parts
You have to basically use a tool that wraps around the plastic band and slowly heats it up until the adhesive deactivates. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
does anyone actually use their phone speakers regularly
All the time. Favorite use case is Rooster Teeth/Youtube in bed.
The HTC One's speakers will make you use them more.
Thanks for the advice guys, I'm leaning toward the HTC. Someone play devil's advocate and convince me to get the S4.
I was given the choice between HTC One and the Galaxy S4. I chose the S4. Better battery life, expandable memory, swappable battery, and a better camera in well-lit conditions with a higher megapixel count were all more important to me than the HTC One Dr. Dre experience. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline] That said, Samsung is a sponsor of the IOC, Which supports Russia's stance on demonizing LGBT rights. For that reason alone I would refuse to buy Samsung. Fuck, its a gen 1. They didn't have any gem twos at the unclaimed baggage center . [editline]16th August 2013[/editline] Well, anyway, I'm happy with it. I really just needed a basic WiFi machine. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline] Fuck touchscreen keyboarda, seriously.
The HTC One's speakers will make you use them more.
I watch Netflix all the damn time on my Note 2 and I have to max the volume just to hear shit. I reckon max volume isn't healthy for Samsung's probably terrible quality speakers. [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
Fuck, its a gen 1. god damn it phone I typed that in ONCE [img_thumb]http://i.minus.com/iAUwnTqn4o1pW.png[/img_thumb] ONCE
thats all it takes.. typing naughty words... not even 1ce...
Well I ended up going with the S4 since they're overnighting it. I'm so sick of this shitty Razr Maxx, I'd rather just have a great phone now instead of waiting weeks for a maybe better one. Got a case as well.
the flip cover version of that case is slick as hell but also costs money looks like they give you a discount on a spare color shell in the style of the one you bought, so I guess you can swap out the flip cover for the standard slip style when you like. Given I now hate my otter commuter after it failed to protect my screen from a tiny fall, it sounds tempting to get a screen covering shell. Could give the otter to my friend who bought an S4 with money he doesn't have curse this thread for giving me ideas [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
god damn it phone I typed that in ONCE [img_thumb]http://i.minus.com/iAUwnTqn4o1pW.png[/img_thumb] ONCE
My phone autocorrects "fuck" to "FUK"
My tablet corrects "fucking" to "FUCKIN G'DAY" Truly Australian
that's some FUCKIN G'DAY bullshit right there, dude
My tablet corrects "fucking" to "FUCKIN G'DAY" Truly Australian
Mine suggests "Sup cunt" and "fucking bogans" whenever I am texting
If I bought a new Nexus 7 (2013 version) from US, would I be able to use the 4G shit in Sweden aswell?
If I bought a new Nexus 7 (2013 version) from US, would I be able to use the 4G shit in Sweden aswell?
You need to check if the spectrum your service provider uses is one of the supported bands on the Nexus 7 (2013).
Just got the Nexus 7 (2nd gen of course). Havent had a good tablet before and holy shitballs do i love this thing.
Meanwhile I can't get Swiftkey to ever learn "shit"
I genuinely hate swipe tying and don't understand it when people tell me it's faster I've got swiftkey though, seems to learn pretty well for me. Could be intentionally avoiding curses
The only keyboard I've used that I can stand is the default Google keyboard, which I think found the perfect balance between accepting what I actually typed vs what I actually meant. At least for me, personally.
The only keyboard I've used that I can stand is the default Google keyboard, which I think found the perfect balance between accepting what I actually typed vs what I actually meant. At least for me, personally.
being a customization whore, I ended up finding something that looked more to my tastes, especially when for some reason my default keyboard refused to actually correct/autofill words when hitting spacebar like normal. Swiftkey feels the best, though I still don't know why none of the keyboard apps out there allow you to customize your emotes menu, giving some generic assortment of :-)'s. Could even utilize that for common phrases or combinations, it's a mouthfull of keypresses just to type something like "<3" on most layouts [editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
Mine suggests "Sup cunt" and "fucking bogans" whenever I am texting
I just remembered my phone suggests this before actually typing [t]http://i.imgur.com/0ovNW4L.png[/t]
am i the only one who prefers the htc one swype style shit to swiftkey
the HTC one keyboard isn't terrible but it did annoy me.
I liked the old HTC keyboards because they could be calibrated and I am a touch keyboard fat fingerer.
