Never had a cracked screen, so I don't really care. I take care of my stuff and if it happens to drop and shatter one day, so be it. Not gonna walk around with an ugly stupid case all day because the screen might crack in a year.
What if you drop it tomorrow?
Then don't buy a phone with shitty build quality. No bezels, no purchase.
That's kind of hard considering the trend among phone manufacturers these days seems to be ignoring build quality in favor of prettyness and/or horsepower. The last phone I felt comfortable even touching without a case was my Palm Treo 680, and those were manufactured in 2006.
I've had about 4 smartphones and a couple feature phones before that, and I've never had a case for any of them. The only reason I get a new phone is because of a brick due to some software fuck up or I lose the phone entirely at the bottom of the ocean, or I just really want new hardware and plus I'm a huge fan of phablets and getting a case for a phablet that would actually protect against falls turns it into a giant brick that cannot possibly fit in your pocket

They will take some serious shit.
Motorola is where it's at if you want a durable phone. They will take some serious shit.
Last time I came face to face with a Motorola they felt equally fragile, imo So unless they stepped it up recently I'm inclined to respectfully disagree.
seriously google apparently if you take an event and change its reminders but change nothing else about it, the reminder update isn't synced to android
Then don't buy a phone with shitty build quality. No bezels, no purchase.
That isn't going to save your phone if you drop it on broken concrete. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] Thin TPU cases are going to be enough for drop protection. Glass screen protectors to keep the screen from shattering. That's about it, unless you happen to walk into a sand storm holding your phone out.

I used to use a TPU skin, then I realized it wasn't necessary with the phones I get.
They've been solid for years... When was the last time you had one?
Two or three years ago? Like I said, the idea of them having improved in that time is not far-fetched. Doesn't detract from the look of the case, either.
Cases are ugly.
I'm actually of the opinion that the right case can make your phone look much nicer. It makes the whole thing look and feel more solid and professional when comparing to the naked build quality.
I feel like this is more of an indictment against Samsung's design-by-committee look than visual flair from the new case.
I've even seen some nice simple iPhone cases that make the device look unique and interesting again. What if it falls on a rock? That wouldn't be rare. Also, I have the HTC One flip cover case, it doesn't "paint" my phone.
I've even seen some nice simple iPhone cases that make the device look unique and interesting again.
That's a different issue though, isn't it? I mean, a case to make a phone look more unique when everyone has the same phone is a different scenario than a case to make a phone not feel like crap in the hand. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
So you have a case but it doesn't really protect the front? What if it falls on a rock? That wouldn't be rare.
A screen protector is generally enough for that.
Specifically a glass screen protector. Seriously guys, nothing else is more worth it. Apply one and never need a new one unless you shatter it in a drop, in which case you just saved something like 150 dollars.
Speaking of protectors, I just moved into my dorm (again ) and a piece of something (I think it was a metal rack of some kind) absolutely destroyed the skin I had on my Pebble. Not a scratch on the actual device. Just ordered another skin. Carbon fiber this time :) Skinomi is the shit.
Also, I have the HTC One flip cover case, it doesn't "paint" my phone.
Really? For how long have you had it? And what would you say about its quality in general?
Oh well... Stock S3 firmware is bad, and CM-based customs are even worse D: For now I am sticking to MIUI, and I want to ask - is there any rom, like Chameleon on S2, i.e. stock rom, but with AOSP look and feel?

[t]http://cdn.gottabemobile.com/wp-content/uploads/tg2.jpg[/t] Owned my phone since shortly after release in 2010, 3 years ago next month. Haven't used a case since 2010. Have had Zagg Invisible Shields on the screen since the 3 minutes it took to walk from the T-Mobile store to the other side of the mall after I bought it. It has been dropped on concrete from 3'+ around 6 times with a couple of the times being 4-5'. Dropped in gravel a couple times on the screen, slid across the garage floor, flung off the dash of my car under hard cornering, ridden against my handbrake in the cubby for 40k miles playing pandora, thrown across the room/into walls lightly too many times to count from hiding inside blankets, ect. Short of the $9 metal battery cover losing it's clear coat and scratching to shit, the casing is fairly dinged up and there's scuffs and pitting on all corners. There's a single major nick into the aluminum screen bezel which could have MAYBE damaged the screen but the bezel did it's job. Rooted it ages ago, and am running CM10.1 on it overclocked to 1.4ghz. I still get a day's worth of battery on the original battery sometimes dying under full screen brightness and HEAVY pandora use by dinner time on roadtrips, ect. Physical keyboard amazes every person who watches me text, always get comments on "I wish I could text that fast" and usually from iPhone users and occasionally people who praise their Swype. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/20130826_003554.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/20130826_003612.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/20130826_003527.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/20130826_003637.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/20130826_003654.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/20130826_003719.jpg[/t] As far as cases, I see the total need for them when you're very concerned with your phone's wellbeing. I was extremely careful with my phone for the first couple years and can remember the first time I dropped it and all three dimples in the bottom left corner it received from the concrete on the back patio. With phones with non-replacable backs made of hard easily damageable material unlike my somewhat rubberized G2 I wouldn't imagine using without a case with a phone like the HTC One. The Nexus 4 however I would just be using Invisible shields front and back with possibly the stock bumper case. My choice in cases though would be to stay away from anything fixed or "case" like. Otterboxes are junk and for instance the one my GF had for her iPhone 4. They turn rather disgusting due to the way they just have a cheap silicone condom around them to trap in all the disgusting hand and pocket dirt. The rather annoying way they force themselves around the phone clipping in place so you pry and possibly damage the case and force up stock size screen protectors. I can't stand those cases at all. If I were to pick a case I'd pick a TPU case and in particular one exactly like the one which I got for my GF for her new Galaxy S4. It fits perfectly snug around the phone and is thick enough to protect against accidental drops and usual abuse. It's surface is nice on the hands and very pleasing to hold. The case comes off the phone very easily with about the perfect amount of force you'd expect from a non-rigid case. The black portion of the case is made of the same material but seems to be slightly harder to provide good hold on the phone, it's not cast separately either. Everything fits perfectly, all the sensors/ports are exposed properly and it's of higher quality for $8.50 than you would get in local stores let alone costing 1/3rd the price of lesser quality alternatives. Paired with a good screen protector such as an invisible shield, you shouldn't ever have problems unless something rather fatal happens to it. http://www.amazon.com/Caseology-Flexible-Compatible-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00A8XD6FA I'll take some pictures of the case if anyone happens to be interested tomorrow, however I have no idea what in the hell you are doing to your phone if you need a full body case. Honestly, if you need that serious hardware around it you should be looking at something far more sturdy than these aluminum and plastic thin $650 screens with a battery attached and a phone built in between. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] Oh and if anyone's wondering the pictures of my phone are taken with a stock rom Galaxy S4. I'm honestly not that impressed with the camera, my phone isn't dirty anywhere but the keyboard which I've neglected to clean and outside of the aluminum which has taken a beating the casing merely just has a decent few nicks on the corners and has lost color in one. It's far better than the one in mine but it's still just cheap ass junky point and shoot quality with a ton of megapixels. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] Also ignore my current screen protector, the invisible shield stand at the local mall decided to warranty replace mine for the 4th time but used a "case friendly" protector(garbage). Their previous bad employees can't center them properly they have lifted after about 6 months. They put this on without telling me it was cut smaller and they have to order another one and replace it for free because it doesn't actually protect the screen on this phone.
Is anyone else having a problem with the gmail app not showing notifications?
Is anyone else having a problem with the gmail app not showing notifications?
Happened to me sometimes. Check settings for your inbox, make sure sync is on. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
long wall of text about TMOUS G2
Holy shit, that thing looks like it's been through hell. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline] @slayer, you've still got quite a lot of blur in those photos. :\

[editline]26th August 2013[/editline] @slayer, you've still got quite a lot of blur in those photos. :\
Not really, my GF's GS4 makes it look like shit. Was really expecting way more of it but it's just cheap point and shoot quality like I said. Battery cover lost it's clear coat and went to shit, it's $9 for a new OEM one. Casing is dingged up but other than the corner losing color it's fine. Aluminum screen bezel has quite a few nicks due to being aluminum and soft but that's about all other than the keyboard being dirty. I've owned it for 3 years and will have not had a case on it for 3 years in December. I'll try taking some better pictures tomorrow with a better camera.
all dat txt
I agree with you on all points except the one about otterboxes for one reason. If you have an industrial type job or work outside in conditions where your phones can (and do) get absolutely fucked up beyond all recognition, get an otterbox.
Is anyone else having a problem with the gmail app not showing notifications?
It doesn't show anything from certain catagories, it's pretty annoying as I enjoy occasionally checking the newegg emails. I disabled that junk. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
I agree with you on all points except the one about otterboxes for one reason. If you have an industrial type job or work outside in conditions where your phones can (and do) get absolutely fucked up beyond all recognition, get an otterbox.
I use my phone constantly while working on my car, I roll over on it on the floor through my pocket and all that good stuff. I use it with disgusting hands occasionally, and use the flashlight on it in hard places. It survived my high school twelding and fabrication class and everything in the last 3 years. I honestly would leave it in the car or get a sturdier/smaller phone if I was ever concerned about it. I can't imagine what line of work where something inside your pocket would get messed up being that you generally don't use your personal phone on a job. I suppose if you really need a "Life-Proof" case or similar for your occupation, it's acceptable. However I'd just value functionality and cost over a super expensive phone in $50 bubble thus wouldn't buy a $600 phone that might break.
The only emails i'm getting notifications about are the emails going into priority inbox,
If you had the S4, I would tell you to get a GPe ROM.
Huh, strange. There is a good AOSP-like ROM for S2, a "stock" one for S4, but there is no such a thing for S3...
Fingers crossed getting Gnex (budget fo lyfe) in the next week. Have vast swathes of unused veneer in the workshop. Thinking of beating the MotoX to the wooden back punch. Also once I'm back at university I could theoretically cnc a battery cover out of pretty much anything.
Seriously, I find it ridiculously annoying when people say that shit "U DONT NEED A CASE JUST BE CAREFUL", it's just as stupid as people who say "U DONT NEED AN ANTI-VIRUS, JUST DONT BE RETARDED", simple mistakes happen, and when they do who is the real idiot here, the one who got a case to be safe, or the one who thought he was above them?
I just personally can't stand having a case on my phone. If it falls and breaks then I'll fucking deal with it. Besides, they just bounce like 90% of the time.
