I just personally can't stand having a case on my phone. If it falls and breaks then I'll fucking deal with it. Besides, they just bounce like 90% of the time.
Knowing me I'm never that lucky. I would be the one guy that drops his phone four feet and it explodes into a trillion little pieces. :tinfoil:
Really? For how long have you had it? And what would you say about its quality in general?
I've had it for months and it's pretty decent. I used to have a move to quickly turn the flap. I stopped doing that when my phone flew out in an attempt to commit suicide. Luckily it failed.
What if you drop it tomorrow?
Tough shit? [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
Speaking of protectors, I just moved into my dorm (again ) and a piece of something (I think it was a metal rack of some kind) absolutely destroyed the skin I had on my Pebble. Not a scratch on the actual device. Just ordered another skin. Carbon fiber this time :) Skinomi is the shit.
Pebble <3 The only thing I dislike is that pebble dev's haven't implemented quit hours yet, but ah well disabling BT at night with tasker works as well I guess.
So you have a case but it doesn't really protect the front? What if it falls on a rock? That wouldn't be rare.
that's what happened to my S4 whilst in an Otterbox Commuter
so how bout that gorilla glass and this wonderful 2-layer shock resistant case system I had a droid bionic from release til this summer, dropped it a few times and it even skidded across a parking lot, and all I had was a tiny little scrape. My best guess for this is that there was some little fucker of a stone on the ground
a rock to the face is a freak accident though, you're kinda boned if you hit something wrong in any regard but these things should absorb the shock and have enough lip on the front that it won't be an issue if you drop it face down most of the time. having said that, after that break I got a bit paranoid, and followed a link from this thread to that site's cases and got this bugger- [t]http://i.imgur.com/ayhhejH.png[/t] pretty slick, and if you don't feel like dealing with the flippy face for the day when you're not going anywhere, the faceplate can come off at the hinge if you pop the phone out of the case for a second and it still looks awesome [t]http://i.imgur.com/8e3rGcK.png[/t] also I like my current theming
I use my phone constantly while working on my car, I roll over on it on the floor through my pocket and all that good stuff. I use it with disgusting hands occasionally, and use the flashlight on it in hard places. It survived my high school twelding and fabrication class and everything in the last 3 years. I honestly would leave it in the car or get a sturdier/smaller phone if I was ever concerned about it. I can't imagine what line of work where something inside your pocket would get messed up being that you generally don't use your personal phone on a job. I suppose if you really need a "Life-Proof" case or similar for your occupation, it's acceptable. However I'd just value functionality and cost over a super expensive phone in $50 bubble thus wouldn't buy a $600 phone that might break.
My pops and I , for example, work on a railroad. You wouldn't think that's be a big deal, but everything is bigger on a railroad. Wrenches are 5 feet tall, you're working around tons of rock (ballast for the tracks), you're climbing on and off really tall equipment, you're climbing up things that require to to use the front of your thighs for support, and that's all just in the first couple hours. Industrial jobs kill phones, but you must have a decent smartphone because the market demands that you be able to receive and respond to text and email almost instantaneously. When I go work in the summer, I slap a shell or poly case and belt clip on my phone. Only way it will survive a summer. And there might be a third party solution as well. And also, why the fuck would you not let me check my remaining battery? Seriously. The sensor is obviously there, it gives you readouts for full, half, and almost empty, but why isn't it there just a "battery" option in the settings that shows you the remaining amount? By the way, have you used Glance on it yet?

It ONLY shows up when completely full, or near half empty, or half empty. 3/4th full? Nope. 1/4th full? Nope, Nothing. Why not show the thing all the time.
Is anyone else having a problem with the gmail app not showing notifications?
Happens every time, I never get proper notifications for some stupid reason. Sometimes I get them but rarely.

It's great for that. And I know, it's ridiculous. And there's no third party solution to speak of!
So you have a case but it doesn't really protect the front? What if it falls on a rock? That wouldn't be rare. Also, I have the HTC One flip cover case, it doesn't "paint" my phone.
You're never going to be able to 100% protect a phone. Nothing is indestructible. Tradeoffs between usability and protection need to be made. A little plastic TPU case will be useful for small drops and general use, but will not protect against a tank shell. 5 inch layers of steel could protect against a tank shell, but good luck using it. [editline]26th August 2013[/editline]
That's a different issue though, isn't it? I mean, a case to make a phone look more unique when everyone has the same phone is a different scenario than a case to make a phone not feel like crap in the hand.
Your nitpicks are missing the point. The point was that cases can be used to make phones look aesthetically nice and interesting again, and I gave two such scenarios; making a crap phone look nice again, and making a nice looking phone stand out from the crowd by giving it unique personalization. You won't be getting top of the line performance but you will be getting something that is more likely to withstand brutal conditions.

The Ative is the only one that's really ruggedized, and even it's not all that much more durable than a Motorola. Also, it's running touchwiz.
Or, like everyone else is doing, buy a $30 dumbphone because the company that hired you probably gave you a corporate SIM card.
Like i said, market pressures make it hard to work in a service based business with a feature phone. And companies like Verizon run enterprise specials on specific smartphones to make it cheaper to provide phones to employees. When the railroad upgraded, it was the OG Droid Razr.
I have a case that doubles thickness on my Note 2 and it doesn't affect pocketability. And I throw the thing around like a toy (and actually use it as a cat toy, my kitten loves the corners for whatever reason) and it hasn't broke. Seriously, the only accessory that's gone the way of the goat is cheap $5 screen protectors. They are more easily scratched than the glass on the device itself and offer no fall protection. Cases and glass protectors do.
I use cheap plastic screen protectors still. Sure the protector gets scratched, but it's easier to replace the $5 protector than to replace the $100 screen and digitizer assembly when a bad scratch happens. The screen itself won't have scratches, meaning it's less likely to shatter when dropped. It's not A+ protection, but it's acceptable.
Scratches will happen anyway. Putting something that scratches faster and the only benefit is that the screen itself isn't scratching seems wasteful to me. At least add some drop protection into the mix.

I keep putting off taking it off because I want to see how bad it will get.

Supposedly is a "high end" screen protector, too.
Pff, and here I am perfectly fine with the screen protectors I got for a dollar off eBay.
I've bought Invisible Shields for all of my devices since my second gen iPod Touch in 08. I love the way the material feels, the self-healing properties, the impact resistance and the $22 installed with a lifetime warranty. You're talking more about work phones though, I'm talking about a $650 flagship personal phone. I'm just mainly arguing against your average teenager/20something(facepunch, essentially) "NEEDING" this stupid $50 case which makes the phone look like a damn child's toy. 95% of people really don't need anything more than a TPU case and a proper screen protector. If you're so clumsy with a phone that you need a protection bubble around it you should really just invest in something you won't break and/or insurance.
I decided I'm going to buy an HTC Desire HD as my next phone if my dad decides to change his mind about giving me his 4s instead. Anyone know how well it overclocks and if there's a CM10.1 port?
Because I'm POOR
I read that in Nathan Explosion's voice and heard a metal riff in my head. Thanks for that.
I read that in Nathan Explosion's voice and heard a metal riff in my head. Thanks for that.
I went back to read it and it took me well over two minutes to finish, thanks
I wish more phones had physical keyboards
There's an Andromadus CM10.1 Rom for the Desire S, it's practically the only decent rom still in active development for the Desire Z/G2. All of the Jelly Bean roms for the Desire Z are based off Andromadus anyways and most are built off extremely old versions of it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031694 25b4 is just about perfect, can't think of a single bug on my Desire Z. The S has twice the ram so it will run it beautifully whereas mine struggles over the tiny 384mb it was given. I've had mine overclocked to 1.4ghz from 800mhz for like two years now and it works extremely better than stock. It seems the same with the DZ where everything is based off the Andromadus anyways.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672537 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305828 These are still fairly decent devices overclocked and rooted, multitasking is just painfully slow and they aren't smooth like a multicore device.
Just getting used to my s4, anyone know why the dock icons are locked in place? Would really like to swap the stock Internet app for Chrome. .
