[QUOTE=danharibo;42006541]I don't think any American carrier can be described as "consumer friendly".[/QUOTE] If I'm supposed to believe /r/Nexus4 then T-Mobile USA is the savior of everything. [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] [QUOTE=Cree8ive;42006536]Whaaat?[/QUOTE] Well, Verizon now uses SIM cards for LTE AFAIK, but otherwise they have some variation (or something) of a SIM card built into the phone. I seriously cannot imagine having a phone that would be hard-locked to a carrier. Just no.
I know few people will know about the existence of this phone, but does someone know a good rom for Huawei Ascend Y300/G510? (Both mobile phones share firmware and the like.) [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Also, to unlock the bootloader, the device's page tells me to download adb-toolkit from google, which I could only find Android SDK and ADT or something. So I downloaded xda-developers adb-toolkit, put it on C: and proceeded to write fastboot devices into a CLI (with the folder cd'ed and everything), but it says that fastboot isn't a application or something like that. Where's the official ADB-Toolkit from Google? [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Great, now fastboot works, but it's stuck at waiting for device. Oh damn. [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Can't seem to find the solution for fastboot not recognizing the phone. Reinstalled the drivers, made sure USB debuggin is ticked, and that fast boot is unticked.
Awww yeah, Nexus 4 is ordered and on it's way
Google canceled my order and now the page says it's not available at the current time. I guess I'll buy a new graphics card instead or something.
The build.prop bit got me good. [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/fTkgEan.jpg[/IMG]

[QUOTE=iCole;42006701] Well, Verizon now uses SIM cards for LTE AFAIK, but otherwise they have some variation (or something) of a SIM card built into the phone. I seriously cannot imagine having a phone that would be hard-locked to a carrier. Just no.[/QUOTE] CDMA uses a sort of authentication system of sorts. You register the phone's MEID (basically IMEI, but for CDMA) with the carrier to your number (which you can do yourself or go to carrier's store). Then when the phone connects to the network, it send its MEID, and downloads the info it needs to run (phone number, subscriber number, services, etc) based on said MEID. Where it gets wacky, is that both GSM compatible and LTE Verizon phones use SIM cards. But still use the CDMA component for authentication and voice (in the case of LTE phones). That case though, a SIM card acts like a normal GSM SIM card, but you can't move from carrier to carrier, since its not really possible. Its mainly useful if your selling the phone, as it makes it remarkably painless.
[QUOTE=Ol' Pie;42007694]my device has a fast boot switcher. If you turn fast boot on, you will not be able to boot into fastboot (it will not stay on boot) but if you turn it off, you can. Nonetheless, you can always force fastboot if you uninstall the batery and install it 5 seconds later, then turn the phone with power + vol up. [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Also, if you connect your device in fastboot to a computer, should the phone's sd card show up in explorer? Because mine doesn't. [editline]fuck i ask a lot of questions[/editline] LordCrypto, doing that gives me a "error:device not found" message. Btw, the phone drivers are installed. Not sure if correctly, but I took the 'Handheld WinDriver' exe that came with the phone, so I think I installed the right one.[/QUOTE] you need to be in adb mode (phone is on) for adb commands to work fastboot only works when it says fastboot on the screen you can't use adb in fastboot and vice versa [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] also check device manager for a unknown device with an exclamation mark under other devices, right click, update drivers, use the drivers that the exe installed

keep it in fastboot mode and unplug it and plug it back in until windows says installing device drivers then update the drivers [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] also if you've got a windows 7 computer lying around, try doing what you need to do on that. i had no luck with my one x until i plugged it into my laptop

[editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Also no Windows 7 computer, just a Ubuntu netbook. [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] I started a manual search for controllers on properties, and it says it's already on the best controller possible, Android Sooner Single ADB Interface. [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] adb devices and fastboot devices still show nothing. I'm following the exact same steps the manufacturer gives. Sorry for all this post bashing.
I just got an LG p700 L7 and I am wondering if there's a way to access all the other files (not only music, pictures and videos) with or without the LG PC Suite.
Sucks living in the most isolated city in the world, my Nexus 7 order has been delayed by 5-10 days meaning I won't be getting it tomorrow (Well, today). I even took the day off because I can't get to the pick up place before it closes after I finish work.
[QUOTE=iCole;42006301]Now I know that this was a joke post (or was it?) but with the launch of the Nexus 4 I realized just how little americans know about how a sim card works. Or maybe "just how much american carriers brainwash their customers".[/QUOTE] Not joking. That's how shit American phone carriers are. On another note, when I bought my galaxy note in March 2012 I got 80mbps down but today I only get 6-10 Mbps down. Thanks att
ARHD now has sense 4.3 for the HTC One

Sprint and Verizon customer's phones don't work on any other networks because of the CDMA radios anyway, so buying on-contract from Verizon or Sprint really doesn't hurt you except with respect to bloatware. Even though the Nexus 4 is down $100, I'd still wait for the 2013 version since it's clearly going to be better (and more expensive).
[QUOTE=Cree8ive;42006536]Whaaat?[/QUOTE] CDMA networks usually register the ESN (serial number) of the device itself. Meaning if you want to switch phones, you must call customer service. There are some phones on Verizon that do use something called a CSIM, for CDMA networks, but you still can't swap them into a GSM phone. TL;DR: CDMA is a cancer EDIT: Google used to make a separate CDMA version of their Nexus (the Galaxy Nexus was the last to have a CDMA version). Then they said "fuck it". [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Praise Google for creating a great backup phone if I ever lose or break my S3 (king of phones).

So yeah, I can't blame them for saying fuck it. That and carrier delayed updates.
Well, my parents are awesome and got me a nexus 4 when all I asked for was a second hand galaxy nexus. Happy birthday to me. Feel bad that they bought it like the day before the price drop though. Think I'll take them out for dinner to make up the difference.
Sounds like it's less the tech and more the carriers for shitting up the networks

[QUOTE=BreenIsALie;42012659]Sounds like it's less the tech and more the carriers for shitting up the networks[/QUOTE] Not really. They were both standards. And LTE is based on GSM tech, so they're trying to fix it (verizon is gonna move to VoLTE.
