I don't think that slogan means what we all wish it does. Making the update available for everyone is technologically impossible with the way Android and the devices are currently set up AFAIK. "available to everyone" sadly probably refers to the contest of winning a 1000 Nexus 7's with KitKat bars. And I'm guessing that contest will be US only as usual..
So, after all this phone was great and all, but then nexus 4 drops to 50€ more than the 150€ i spent on the y300, and suddenly the phone becomes a bit crappier. Should've waited.
I'm looking for some free VoIP app that has free calling for me in Canada Talkatone crashes every time I call anyone and uses so much RAM Viber is like Skype but more limited Any others?
Perhaps though they could push over new features using the Google Services, a bit like they did with Android Device Manager
I suppose Google could release quite a few features of Android as separate APKs on the Play Store, but it still wouldn't get closer enough.
In an interview with BBC News UK, both Nestle and Google spilled the beans on exactly how this co-branding and partnership came to be, and it's actually quite fascinating. Originally, Google was going to use the long-rumored codename Key Lime Pie, but after realizing that "very few people actually know the taste of a key lime pie," the company opted to change the name at the end of last year. Someone (presumably on the Android team) suggested KitKat as a name since the company keeps KitKats "in the kitchen for late-night coding" snacks. After a bit of digging to find who actually controlled the KitKat name, Director of Android Global Partnerships John Lagerling gave Nestle a call to pitch the idea to them. The following day, Lagerling joined a conference call with Nestle, and the agreement was made just 24 hours later. Nestle Marketing Chief Patrice Bula claims it took them less than an hour to make a decision, stating that he was aware of the risks that could potentially arise from the co-branding. "Maybe I'll be fired," he said, "when you try to lead a new way of communicating and profiling a brand you always have a higher risk than doing something much more traditional. You can go round the swimming pool 10 times wondering if the water is cold or hot or you say: 'Let's jump.'" And jump they did – the companies held a secret meeting at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this past February to finalize the details. Here's where things really get interesting. In order to keep the new name and partnership under wraps from the media, Google employees privy to the deal continued using KLP as the moniker for the upcoming version of Android – even when discussing details with manufacturers and, in many cases, other Google employees. In fact, most Googlers didn't know about KitKat until the statue was erected in Mountain View. That explains why we haven't heard a single rumor surrounding the new name – Google and Nestle managed to keep everything quiet for nearly a year. That's impressive. The final aspect of this deal worth talking about is that it's not a "money-changing-hands kind of deal," according to Lagerling. They wanted to do something "fun and unexpected," so neither company is paying the other for the partnership. It's just two giants in their own respective fields coming together for a bit of a good time, but the benefits will likely be seen across the board for both parties.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/09/03/google-nestle-and-android-4-4-kitkat-heres-how-it-all-went-down/ [editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
I suppose Google could release quite a few features of Android as separate APKs on the Play Store, but it still wouldn't get closer enough.
Adding together all they can do through Play Services for 4.1+, and the stuff that could be (or already is) in APKs (launcher, keyboard, camera, gallery, etc), it would be possible to release nearly all of a new iteration to older versions. All that would be missing would be little under-the-hood enhancements like TRIM.

Android 4.4 KitKat is going to be such a huge marketing scheme, and it already is by the looks of it

First thought after hearing the new name was it's like one of those Google's april fools jokes, just at a completely wrong time. I'm not mad or anything, it's just weird that they're "selling out" the name of an Android release when all the names up to now have been generic unbranded sweets. Oh well, I guess it makes sense since Google's whole business is based on advertising. [editline]4th September 2013[/editline] Also this has got to be one of the biggest cross promotions in history.
also they aren't selling out google was like "hey kitkat can we use ur name for the version???" kitkat was like "sure np can we give away free nexuses and google play money??" zero money was moved for this deal
Nexus 5?!
The thing the guy is holding? looks like the back of the 2013 N7
The thing the guy is holding? looks like the back of the 2013 N7
Too small. Look at it next to that Nexus 4 the chick has. [editline]3rd September 2013[/editline] But it does look like the 7. Unified design languages FTW!
also they aren't selling out google was like "hey kitkat can we use ur name for the version???" kitkat was like "sure np can we give away free nexuses and google play money??" zero money was moved for this deal
Hence the "selling out" in quotes. Also a Nexus 5 being announced sometime soon would make sense, it's september already and they've just discontinued the 8GB N4.
what blows my mind is that they kept this secret for an entire year most googlers didn't know until the unveiling of the kk bugdroid
Too small.
It does look a bit on the small side, and maybe a flash next to the camera opening, next nexus by Asus? Back layout looks too much like their new N7
It does look a bit on the small side, and maybe a flash next to the camera opening, next nexus by Asus? Back layout looks too much like their new N7
Naw, people have blown it up and said it's definitely an LG symbol.
Can somebody please point me to a tutorial on how to make an Android app please? I started by following the guide on the Android website but it isn't very clear once it get to the point of making the button do something. Thanks.
Naw, people have blown it up and said it's definitely an LG symbol.
Ahhh I see, couple articles are mentioning the LG logo, would be awesome to have a unified nexus design
It would be like a Nexus 7 but instead of having a 7 inch screen it would have a 5 inch screen. Nexus....... 5?
