That only works when your phone isn't fucked.
When it's fucked you can un-fuck it with a USB jig.
Remove battery, hold button combination, plug in cable, put in battery. That forces the exact same procedure a USB jig would do. Trust me, I've had to do this shit before when I broke everything
the thing i always want to do is set up a router with wireshark outside of a starbucks with more power than theirs and call it att-wifi. iphones connect automatically (i don't know if it's just "oh look ssid = ATT-Wifi" or there's a list). If it just connects to anything named att-wifi, hello facebook password, credit card info, etc
See people like you make me glad I got away from my stock ROM
shit had "attwifi" permanently in the network lists, couldn't delete it, couldn't turn off autoconnect, and would always fuck shit up on my way to/from the grocery store because the Starbucks across the street gives it just enough juice to reach me but not enough for me to get any usable data across one way or the other.
this really pisses me off in Firefox beta:

I click a link, it goes bloody orange and then it goes "NO YOU DIDN'T REALLY CLICK THE LINK" and the link either remains orange or it goes back to not being selected.
Change user agent or use computer as a repeater
As in you need to go through a scanner thing to make sure you don't inject the internets with a virus that won't run on a phone

Does that with every Android browser I've ever had to use.
I wind up having to tap everything twice.
Just bought the S4. I am having an issue and can't connect to my wireless repeater. It just gets stuck at obtaining IP address.
Every other device can connect fine. I'm new to android, so is there any way I can figure out why this is happening?
I experienced this while visiting some family. They had a repeater, and apparantly the FIRST TIME you connect has to be near the real router.
Dunno why.
Why are the font sizes on facepunch on android different per post?
Guys, how much can my carrier affect my ability to root, or is the S3 just crap?
it's just the way Chrome renders the fonts. no real idea why it does that.

If your phone/tablet/device tells the router/server that it's not a PC, it will treat it as such. You can easily spoof user agents and make the router/server believe it's a PC and allow you to log in and stuff.

One of my friends has S3. He even changes ROM in school time.. It's not crap.

it's always been like that, no difference in the beta or stable

I must be doing something wrong then. Followed 3 different tutorials to the letter. So to ask once again:
How much could my carrier affect my ability to root?
A) What is your carrier
or better yet
B) What's your S3 model number (there's several different versions). Settings - About Phone - Model Number.

Carrier: Sure Mobile
Model: GT-I9300
Channel Islander! Hi.
That is the international version that has an unlocked bootloader so you can flash without worrying about the carrier
The GT-i9300 should be piss easy to root, carriers don't block it in any way at all AFAIK.
Someone with an S3 correct me if it's not up-to-date, but this should be one of the methods you can use:

Well hes not supporting it anymore , but it should work.
My method of rooting was as follows http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
So I finally decided to do a factory/data reset, the issue of the missing storage has been resolved. No longer does my phone think there is only 15 mb of space on it

I'll try these, thanks
This nexus 4 is my first actual smartphone, but I've used my dads iPhone before. What I've noticed is the battery goes straight down on this phone. Brightness is on automatic, I turn off all unused apps in the background, and it just tanks. I've used this phone 13 minutes today and it's already 96%. Is this normal or is something defective with this unit?

Using 4% in 13 minutes is not unusual.
Using 4% in 13 minutes is not unusual.
You mean on the Nexus right ?, I can watch 20 min video and draw that much
Ridunian but currently studying in Donkey Land
Yeah the S1 does have a weird button combination that simulates the jig. I've had to do it before when I bricked everything.
Also why would you buy a 3 year old phone? I'm still looking for an adequate replacement for mine.
I bought it second hand cheap, I cant afford a new one.
You mean on the Nexus right ?, I can watch 20 min video and draw that much
I watched like 4 episodes of Whose Line last night on youtube, and when I stopped it was at 90% I think.
I'm considering getting a phone (again) since I now have a job and am going to start making money soon)
I'm asking for opinions here because I want more information rather than Engadget or whoever else the companies have paid off for good reviews among user comments by Joe Schmoe on the websites.
For those with a Sony Xperia Z or ZL (I heard that pretty much the only difference is that one's waterproof, ones not. Am I right?), How's the battery life? I assume that since it's got so much damned power inside it that the battery life is absolute shite.
For those who are familiar with Nexus devices. Google's I/O is coming up soon (Maybe they'll release a nexus 5?). Are they fairly consistent in terms time between announcement and release? I can wait for it to come out, but I'm just wondering how long it could be. The Nexus 4 looks good, but I'm not going to consider it if they're going to bring up a Nexus 5 this year.
HTC One. Anyone have one? How is it? I don't know too much about it.
An infrared thingie-ma-boober on it would be pretty cool, so I can use it with mah Tee Vees, although it's blatently something the manufacturers have thrown in as a "perk" cause they're running out of things.

HTC One best phone
unless you NEED an SD card and usable battery, then the S4 is better
but I'd get the one anyway
[editline]9th May 2013[/editline]
Also I forgot about the infared thingiemaboober
Quick question: razr HD or SIII?
