Which is fucking retarded.
It wouldn't be retarded if MTP wasn't a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler.

If I were to guess what the problem is, sounds like the battery isn't being charged and the only thing keeping it on the charger.

Hey, Google makes Android!
Google also makes Chrome!
This story is now relevant. Desktop apps in Chrome OS.

yeah, which is pretty stupid considering I just got it back from service (sent it in because of this and they didn't fix it, lame)
Yo what's the process to do SD card stuff. I bought a 16GBer and want to load my Google Music cache onto it to free up precious free space. Is this possible?
oh i just flashed a rom to my y300 and god it feels so good. no more bloatware and ugly default icon set
We must be looking at different battery tests then, because every source I've seen put the S4 above the HTC One in all walks including standby, talk, web browsing, and video playback.
I look at Anandtech battery life tests. No one else bothers to standardize brightness, so that's literally just random noise due to confounding factors.
The screen isn't as bad as you make it out to be, either. The S4 is reasonably close to where it should be in terms of calibration when using Movie mode, burn in isn't realistically a concern because after 3 years the only burn in my Fascinate S1 had was where the status bar was and you only get to notice that on a pure white background. The S4's screen isn't the best, sure, but it's no slouch either.
Brightness constantly changes. Dynamic contrast is there and it messes with color. Gamma is completely inconsistent. Color gamut is still 122% at best, which makes it worse than 78% sRGB gamut displays. Burn-in isn't the major issue, the major issue is the constant color change from uneven subpixel degradation from the burning out of the organic compounds.
Also I can't for the life of me figure out what APL means on Google.
Average Picture Level. It's a measure of how bright the picture is. The more color, the higher the APL. All white is 100% APL, all black is 0% APL.
[editline]5th September 2013[/editline]
Yeah pretty much every test I've seen said the S4 lasted longer...
If those tests don't equalize screen brightness, it's invalid. Engadget, The Verge, GSMArena, and many others are all pointless because of this.
Believe it or not, a lot of people like over-saturated displays. I dare say most people aren't going to look at a phone screen and whine about its lack of realism with its colours. But those people would be very impressed by a very colourful screen with perfect contrast. Do most people care about accurate colour reproduction? For TVs, sure. On a phone, it's just not a big deal that the colours are "too vivid." To be fair, let's just agree that neither of them have the better screen as fact, and that it's entirely up to the user which screen they prefer, because they're both amazing. I will admit that the S4 screen's visibility outdoors is shit though. I had an iPhone 5 before it and it, at 50% brightness, was much better outdoors than the S4 at 100%, which is pretty pathetic. It's practically the only downside that pisses me off though.
Believe it or not, there are people that also like display accuracy because things like photos and movies need color accuracy. Vivid colors look nice in the showroom but just like TVs, you're going to take it home and not use showroom settings.
Well seeing your friends/colleagues using their phones won't give you much of an idea about the general public. On XDA, people tend to really closely favour phones with expandable memory and swappable batteries. It's not a crucial feature but having it is far nicer than not. Especially when you think forward to what happens when the battery decides to take a shit.
I don't see my friends/colleagues using it, I hear them complaining. My brother seriously hated custom ROMs on the GS3 because either they were Touchwiz and looked like ass as a result, or AOSP was just way too bare for him. Same thing happened when he got a One. Went to 4.3 GPe for around two weeks before he couldn't take it and I had to flash a Sense ROM. My friend with a GS4 just rages all the time because everyone on XDA thinks they're a 1337 designer and they make Touchwiz even uglier. Expandable memory is something that only matters when a phone has 4/8/16 GiB of space, not when a phone is shipping with 32/64/128 GiB. My brother got the GS3 thinking that he would want expandable storage, and that he would need to replace the battery. He literally never did either. I put a microSD in his phone only to flash a ROM, and it was never put back in afterwards. The battery was never replaced. This same sort of situation plays out far too often. My friend with the GS4 compromised on display/camera/thermals because he placed value on battery replacement and microSD before purchase, and now he doesn't give a damn about the latter because he's never needed either of those features.
Well then those people are idiots or they suck at doing research because XDA's S4 ROM/Kernel selection is fucking amazing. There are plenty of great Touchwiz ROMs like Alpha and Goldeneye. Want pure Jellybean? There's BeanStalk, KANGABEAN, ParanoidAndroid, etc etc etc, and they're all stable ROMs clusterfucked with more features than you'll ever probably use. The S4's ROM selection is actually why a lot of hacker-type people prefer it over the One.
S4's ROM selection is pretty bad once you eliminate all AOSP ROMs and limit Touchwiz ROMs to those that are not stock theme but tastefully themed to somewhat fit Google design guidelines. I am far from the only person that finds Touchwiz to have pretty terrible UI design.
I find the One to have development in the places I care about. There's plenty of AOSP development but as far as I'm concerned I don't want to spend weeks searching for replacement apps for stuff already in Sense that is well-designed and integrated. ROMs like Trickdroid and ViperROM introduce tons of extra functionality to Sense that fits in visually.
It was my mistake for trying to ask which phone is better because as I learned, they're different devices aimed for entirely different types of people. It's not really fair to say one is overall better than the other.
I think the problem is that people are trying to hold onto things that really don't matter nearly as much as the XDA-1337 haxx0r crowd makes it out to be. There are bigger things to worry about.
Nox
Thanks for that, it's a really nice icon pack. On my Nexus I have it set up to switch wallpapers every 30 minutes or so from directory of wallpapers that I copied from my computer. The app's called Wallpaper Changer and it's free and simple, automating the process of switching your wallpapers.
sdwise, are you still deciding on the Moto X?
In fact, does ANYONE here have the Moto X?
Moto X looks pretty slick afaik
But the moto x maker let me down, I thought you would be able to customize the processer type, amount of ram, etc. But it turns out you just get to customize the color and look of it. The custom boot animation is pretty cool, though.
Dunno, when ever it comes to icons I prefer colorless ones... So far never found anything with color I could like

And when I do need to charge it, the magnetic charging makes me happy it's dead, just so I can enjoy the magic of sticking it on that convenient little cable.
easy problem to solve, just put the charger in and keep yourself tethered to the mains with an extension cord

Or get one of these:

You could even make a strap a few on your wrist and be the ultimate god of charging.

I guess it's only 6000 mAh but that's damn near two full charges on my Note 2.

In the battery app what's that solid blue line under the graph at the top? When I tap the graph and look at the other details it doesn't seem to correlate with any of the other lines so I can't tell what it's supposed to represent. 99% of the time it seems to be completely unbroken.
I'm on 4.1.2 for what it's worth

I think it's WiFi. The green bar is time charging.
[editline]6th September 2013[/editline]
No wait I think the blue line represents whichever of the blue ones is the largest. For example if you had wifi on all day it'll be wifi, have you had wifi off but your screen on all day it'll be screen on. Did you have something keeping your phone awake all day it'll be awake.

Lumia 925 has a Battlefield 3 camera... Most of them are a bit blue.

That was the biggest joke of a camera test of all time. The fact that the One did not have images as bright as the Lumia 925 just shows how little they tried to legitimize the test.
