i haven't seen an android kit kat around here yet
Not only is the contest happening here it's happening in a way more broken than anyone can possibly imagine - it uses the UPC codes. Go here Enter these 5 codes every day: 05980331 059800204736 059800623360 059800216920 059800299367 Some people have won $70+ so far, even two tablets (the latter requires using multiple email addresses and phone numbers which I don't advise) Actually don't do any of this so I can win more
reminds me of the doritos halo 4 code stuff (I think it was just xp boosts or something) and there was an epidemic of people complaining their codes don't work, because someone would just write them down in the store and redeem everything
So my phone hasn't been downloading pictures in twitter mobile and WhatsApp, tried both WiFi and data. I don't know what could be wrong. The phone also doesn't display the data usage graph. It's a Huawei Y300 rooted and flashed, but on the 'about phone' screen it states it's an huawei g510, which is the same with a bigger screen. [editline]10th October 2013[/editline] Also, found an adapted cyanogenmod rom for this phone, but i'm not sure how to flash it. I already have TWRP installed, but I don't remember quite well how to do it.
does this work if i'm not a resident of canada?
you can redeem the $5 google play credit
I have only won $5 of Google Play money, every other bar either is a loser or has no code.
This is why I use a regular browser, one that doesn't take like 30mb to install and runs like shit. Personally I've been using Next Browser lately, feels like stock browser except with a nicer interface.
Does it have decent battery drain?
I sorted the last problem, but I noticed that data usage is blank for me. I have data turned on and I certainly have used data this month. It isn't displaying used MB, neither use cycle. Is there any way to reset data usage app or something?
Somehow my phone always kernel panics when I try to wipe dalvik cache and it doesn't boot anymore. WTF? (SGSII, SentinelROM) [editline]10th October 2013[/editline] Weird, backup up, formatting and restoring /data fixed it. How is that even possible??
So I'm due for an upgrade soon on Big V (Verizon) and am contemplating another Android (Samsung Galaxy S4 most likely). I had the Droid X1 and absolutely hated it, so I jumped to the iPhone 4S for a phone that just works. And it did, until I started noticing the frequent messaging app crashes and general "prettiness beats functionality". iOS 7 pretty much sealed the deal on me getting something not iPhone because of the annoying animations that just slow productivity down and accomplish nothing. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows about any speculation of new Android phones coming to Verizon. I also remember my Android experience as sluggish and a battery hog. The battery one may just be the X (I'm very defensive/conservative about battery), but I've noticed a recurring theme over Android devices that they look "less smooth" than iOS. Has this been "fixed" or am I just crazy and it never existed?

[editline]10th October 2013[/editline] Touchwiz is a bloated, laggy, shitstain of an OS. The new Moto OS (which is basically stock android) is much higher quality. The Moto X and the new Droids are really some of the best phones on the market right now, and definitely your best option if you're on Verizon (as I am).
but I've noticed a recurring theme over Android devices that they look "less smooth" than iOS. Has this been "fixed" or am I just crazy and it never existed?
I remember reading that iOS prioritises all processing on the interface before the app itself so it may get the job done slower but at least it looks smoother. Android does not do this and that is why it can appear less smooth depending on device.
Touchwiz is a bloated, laggy, shitstain of an OS.
As much of a shitstain as it is, S4 runs constant 60fps even with power saving (CPU capping) enabled. Have not seen any lag at all
My Droid has never been smoother since I flashed Cyanogen on it.
As much of a shitstain as it is, S4 runs constant 60fps even with power saving (CPU capping) enabled. Have not seen any lag at all
Based on the reviews I've read, even ones from people who are pretty accepting of OEM skins, that performance is not normal. And I say that, but it's really all personal opinion anyway. I just got heated thinking about Verizon. I'm so ready to jump off that fucking ship.

We've come a long way from Gingerbread era phones. However, its not perfect and you will notice stutters and such every so often. This is simply because Android doesn't prioritize animations over the actual app/OS services like iOS does. Its simply get the job done first, look pretty second. Battery life is decent, but that depends on the phone and what services you're running in the background. You have to be a bit more conscious of what apps your currently running if you want good battery life. You have to remember its a very different ethos on how app management works from iOS.
I thought Samsung was the leading in the Android market with the best quality phones and least crappy modifications to Android? Also, when I had my Droid X I remember that Motorola locked the bootloaders (or did some crap so flashing Cyanogenmod was very difficult/impossible). Is this still the case? I vowed if I ever went Android again I wouldn't get a Motorola because of the crap they did. I remember waiting months for Android updates to be pushed to my phone but I'm sure that's the case with any device.

Pretty sure they cross check to canadian ip's or something.

My advice would be to do some investigation into Stock v.s. Touchwiz. Motorola has the best build quality, IMO, though others are as good. Samsung is not among those. And remember, Google owns Moto now, so updates should be a bit quicker. As for your wait, I wouldn't be surprised if as much blame falls on Verizon as on Moto. Verizon held a stock android update for 6 months on the G-Nex once. And it still doesn't have 4.3 today! Verizon is generally the culprit. If I were to pick for you, I would say get the Moto X. As far as the bootloaders go... Well, let's just say I'm running Cyanogenmod on a locked RAZR Maxx and it was easy. [editline]10th October 2013[/editline] But really, just spend an hour in the Verizon store, ignore the reps, and play around with the phones. You may find you love Touchwiz. [editline]10th October 2013[/editline] And if you're willing to get radical with your change, drop Verizon. They're assholes.
Or you may puke at the sight of its hideousness. If you really want near stock experience but good hardware look for devices that have active rom communities.

Motorola is under new management and the new Moto X seems to be a really solid phone. HTC makes some really pretty and well made phones but can tend to lack when it comes to actual use such as the silly choice of physical buttons. LG makes some really good devices and hardware but they seem pretty new to doing anything software as the G2's software is pretty bad while their previous phones were far worse. I've found Samsung to be the most desirable to anyone who is coming from iOS. They also pay the most in marketing and have built up to being the new "standard" as HTC was struggling as Android grew. HTC is shrinking still while Motorola failed out and is being reincarnated, Google is dominating with Nexus devices and LG is still being LG. There's really no "leader" as everything has significant upsides and downsides. Samsung has to be really careful now as it's very easy for them to cock up their market share now.
Well Sony does a pretty good job on near stock experience too, but also does a pretty job with the modding community. Though Sony does not have a good market in the U.S, so that is not an alternative for Banana. [editline]10th October 2013[/editline] Adding to what Slayer said, Android to me is subjective and you can be happy with almost any top device right now. It's more of what you are willing to compromise, somethings may be a benefit to you but a negative to others.
Hmmm, interesting. Isn't the Moto X missing a MicroSD card slot though?
[t]http://i.imgur.com/mIukpGn.png[/t] Found a port of Bochs (Or QEMU, it wasn't labeled) with a Windows 95 image. Pretty cool, I remember doing this on my old PSP and it was slow as hell, though on my Note 3 it's not too bad.

Gotta try and find a Windows 98 img with Plus or SE Found an 98 and a 98lite, 98lite booted, The other one didnt.
Hmmm, interesting. Isn't the Moto X missing a MicroSD card slot though?
Most phones are, honestly the internal ssd is like 10x faster. I wouldn't even put in a sdcard to a GS4 simply because it's 4-5x faster to write/read to the internal drive than a sdcard. You just don't get tons of space at the expense of speed.
