one
Remember I'm on Verizon and we haven't even seen some fakey-looking shots of a Verizon HTC One, and HTC said the next time they put a flagship up on Verizon they're gonna make a huge deal out of it, so we're a few months off from the One on Verizon.

I was about to suggest a bunch of phones for you but..Ouch, Verizon's selection sucks.
Its basically all Samsung phones.
Also I can't say I'm a fan of having to triple check to make sure there's no dust under the screen, dead pixels, and the phone actually works, as nicely built as it is.
Damn, double ninja'd :v:

To be fair, that's just launch issues. They happen with any new phone really.

Yeah I know. I'm personally not a huge stickler about build quality. As long as it is in one piece when I buy it and stays that way I don't really care, and of course I'm ditching TouchWiz for Nova as soon as I get it, so it's still a win-win for me.

Blackberry Q10. You'll probably never find a good Android one.

As long as a phone doesn't feel like a flimsy piece of plastic I'm happy.
Which is the reason why I didn't like using my dad's GS3. For some reason it felt REALLY light and plasticy in my hands.

I put cases on everything I own, so whatever the case feels like is more important to me. I gave up the iPhone build quality when I replaced it with chinese parts twice (and it broke two times!)

oh sorry I'm not too familiar with american goings on
can't you just change network?
oh sorry I'm not too familiar with american goings on

Sure, but if you're locked into a contract it can cost anywhere from $100 to "I might as well just ride this shit out."

I can, there are just a few dealbreakers.
For one, Verizon has the best 4G LTE coverage in my area by far. I have the $100 gift card towards any phone on Verizon that I got completely free, and if I stay on the family plan it's only $60 a month.
[editline]13th May 2013[/editline]
And yeah, the lowest termination fee for me is $130 dollars with one month left of contract time. It's $350 base less $10 for each month of completed service.

I generally do not like Verizon as a company, but their coverage, especially in my area, is unparalleled. They have been deploying 4G pretty much everywhere. You can be in bumfuck nowhere and most likely have 4G coverage. Which is great because their 3G network is remarkably long in tooth and hasn't changed much since multimedia capable flip/slider phones were the "new thing". EVDO is sort of really not nice to use for anything but light browsing or syncing your emails.
Verizon sucks in every respect save 2:
Their customer service is great and their coverage is phenomenal.
their 3G works fine when I can secure a spot in their horridly overloaded network, either that or my iPhone is broke as hell

Success, the S4 bootloader has been unlocked

He hasn't released it yet, though. That was posted a while ago.
What do you guys think?
Wait out my Big Red contract and get the HTC One through Sprint? Or split off from the family plan now and get the GS4 through Big Red? I would get rid of TouchWiz faster than you can recite the Bible from memory. (i.e. eventually, the sooner the better though.)
I have an upgrade on my line now and I can split off to a new account at any time and retain the upgrade. The One is probably coming to Verizon too so who knows.
Wait until May 22nd to see if the rumors about the One launching are true.
Mine is hard bricked tho
JTAG you can ship off to someone to do it. I used Mobile Tech Videos but they're in the US.
From what I've been reading, if there's nothing wrong with the screen (dust or dead pixels), it completes the inbuilt diagnostics fine, and the tolerances on the gaps around the phone are consistent, you should be good.
This is pretty much dead on. Compared to the One X launch last year, the One has basically had zero problems. Anything that was an issue is basically obvious as soon as you run some screen tests or look at the phone in the protective wrap.

I WANT TO DREAM :saddowns:
Just sold someone a 16gb Galaxy sII for the same price as a Nexus 4 at work. I feel bad

Either flash over stock and get it repaired (I've done this before) or get over it.

Done this twice, for the same phone :v:
Once wasn't my fault, the second time was, but fuck da police

When I had my HTC Legend, it kept bricking MicroSDs so I went to get it fixed (flash back to stock from CM7) and all they did was factory reset and send back. Second time they swapped out the mobo and ended up breaking the antenna. After showing my carrier that phone can't make any calls after sending it for warranty twice, they said they don't have the HTC Legend in stock any more and I could pick from any phone in the same plan price range. And that's how I got a free Galaxy S i9000.
When I had one I couldn't use any apps because I didn't pay for special blackberry data, fucking blackberries
Y'know what was worse (And was quickly driven into the ground)

The fucking Hiptop/Sidekick
You had to buy the Sidekick plan, then the Sidekick data, to buy the Sidekick Apps, ringtones or wallpapers that you got from the Sidekick store
You seriously couldn't put your own ringtones and wallpapers on, they could only be bought from them
Combined with the fact it was controlled with a trackball and the build quality on that was total shit, this thing was a giant turd
The best reason it died out so fast, it was aimed at teenagers, with free MSN, texting and internet, but phonecalls were expensive as hell, on top of the $50/month contract you were locked into for two years, they couldn't afford it :v:
So I finally got a new case.

Anybody have it?
Also is Google I/O today?

Tomorrow. Google decided to do both parts of the keynote at once.
Any custom ROM/kernel recommendations for the Galaxy Y? I wish I could get something more modern because that thing feels kinda old and I don't want to install some skins for Launcher XYZ to make it look like it's running ICS. Can I even upgrade to Android 4 with that thing? I'm kinda of new to all that stuff
All custom ROMs right now suck - the only promising one is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2117104
