Going to get Samsung Galaxy S2 somewhere in January next year. Anyone knows if it's still a good phone after those 2 years?

Not really, you can get a brand new Nexus 4 for around $200.

and what if can get a used but babied SGS2 for much cheaper?
CyanogenMod nightlies aren't shit anymore!
Have you tried feedly? There are quite a few layout options ranging from old-school google reader to flipboard craziness
I've been meaning to check out Feedly for a while now, its success is rather attractive.
While its not really an RSS reader but more of a "Grab anything you find related to that topic"-reader, you should definitely check out Flyne, it's from the same guy who made Falcon Pro.
I'll install and try this one too.
Thanks guys!
Highly doubt it, the difference of the G2 is as long as the battery doesn't explode or go faulty it will always last all day no matter what under regular use for as long as you own it. I've had 6 hours of screen on time and 18 hours on the battery and just crossed 50%, my GF's GS4 struggles to be on at 3/4 that.
The phone is actually pretty easy to repair compared to the iPhone/GS4/One, parts aren't super cheap but are far cheaper than replacing the phone. It's $200ish for the entire front housing and like $20 for a battery then you just swap all the boards back in and it's a brand new phone.
I'd also highly suggest the Zagg HD screen protector as it's cut correctly for a TPU case and the Diztronic TPU case. This is a "bezel less" phone, the glass sticks out further than the casing and while this provides a great look and feel it's shitty for screen protectors and dropping. It peeled through my normal Zagg shield as soon as I put it on and I had no choice but to get the HD that was "case friendly".
I'm not really worried about it breaking or the battery becoming bad. My SGSII has a few tiny scratches and the extended battery I bought over 2 years ago is still going strong too. I'm more concerned about the software side of things which is the main reason I'm ditching my SGSII. Everything past 4.1 is unstable as fuck and even 4.1 is only moderately stable.
and what if can get a used but babied SGS2 for much cheaper?
I'm still using my SGSII and it's still a very pretty zippy device. Apps start quickly. UI is really smooth. Browsing is fast.
Only problem it has is the software, but if you stay on Samsung (based) ROMs you shouldn't have any major problems there. Downside is that it's only 4.1. But seriously, if you can get a Nexus 4 instead, GET THE NEXUS 4!

Nexus 7 2013 WiFi is giving me a file that isn't even a megabyte in size. It's like they're doing this on purpose.

Not a problem on your end. I'm getting the same file. It looks like it's not even corrupt. They just forgot to put the actual firmware in the tar :v:
Didn't they say the 2012 Nexus 7 4.4 OTA is out? I keep getting 'Your device is up to date'.
Oh god, the Nexus community is leaking into here now

Depends how much money he has, I wouldn't personally opt for a SGS2 simply because it's a Samsung phone but I suppose my opinion is tarnished by the S4 when the S2 was really what made them. The Nexus 4 is really a better phone all the way around and if I had a choice I wouldn't pick anything less than the N4.
How in the world do we sideload? I've totally forgotten.
How in the world do we sideload? I've totally forgotten.
ADB Sideload option in TWRP, then Adb push your files via adb.exe in windows.
And if we're not rooted? (Doing my brother's n4)
And if we're not rooted? (Doing my brother's n4)
I think there's still an option for that in the stock recovery, if not I think you can temporarily boot into a custom recovery without touching the existing one with Wug's root toolkit.
Can't you just download/upload any apk to the sdcard/internal storage and open it with a file browser/downloads? That's what I do with AdAway since it violates Google Play's ToS. Pretty sure doing it all through ADB is unnecessary unless you want it as a system app. Positive you don't need root to do that.
We're talking about sideloading 4.4

No sd-card slot.
No easily removable battery.
I'm not giving up on basic smartphone freedoms.
So. I managed to revive a LG L5 with a rooted firmware, but as I put my SIM card it says network unlocked. Is there something I can do to unlock it? I tried the 2945#*610 code
flashing kitkat on my strong independent mako who don't need no OTA

N4 has pretty decent battery, I would mark it against it but it lasts my mom two days before she has to charge it so I can't imagine killing it in 18 hours before I go to bed and charge it. Lack of sdcard only sucks with an 8gb and if you need lots of video on your phone. I didn't fill my 8gb on my Desire Z until I took a bunch of videos and ROM backups, even then my 2000 pictures over 3 years hardly took up 1.5gb.
I've never once wanted to touch the battery on my G2, it lasts 2 days with heavy-moderate use and 3 years from now it will easily blast a day away. 6.5 hours of screen on playing games and reading a e-book with 17 hours off charger just touched 50%. My freedom is from being tethered to replace batteries or deal with sdcards that are 4x slower than internal drives. My freedom is to wipe and flash a rom in the time it takes to take a piss, grab a soda, start up an episode of The Walking Dead and jump on the couch while idley setting a clean install. The N4 while lacking at all of those but was only a step in the right direction.
It's not heart surgery to take apart the G2 either, the back pops off with the sim card out. You just have to remove the small plastic covers, remove the antenna hardware, unhook the battery, cool the phone(optional really) and pop/pry the battery out. Better internal design and easier repairs on these "non-replaceable" parts only seems to be coming and that's really what I think is the future for phones.
I don't agree with trying to make these things harder though, sdcard capable phones always skimp on internal storage and anything with a swappable battery has a shitty small battery. If we can stop compromising these and support both, it would be great. I wouldn't mind a sdcard slot, it's far from a bad thing. I'd rather have the more permanent larger battery every single time still, what we need to see is less of the HTC One repair friendliness. I'd like to see more easy of battery replacement similar to the iPhone 4(ugh) where according to this it seems to be pretty easy.

Oh, no idea lol..
I like to call myself an expert in this stuff, but I am ashamed, 4.4 won't go on either a rooted n4 or a non-rooted n4. :suicide:
plug in device
open stock recovery, select "push via adb", go to adb location, do adb sideload kitkat.zip
you're done
the lockscreen doesn't have transparent status and navigation bars : /
I knew GEL isn't included, but at least you could've done this, Google.
I am dissapoint.
Goddamn, this thing has given me nothing but trouble since the day I bought it.
My Nexus 7 2012 isn't charging properly. After about a 12 hour charge, its at only 61 percent, and despite it being plugged in now, the battery is actually draining. Do I need a new battery?
have you tried a different charger?
Yes, makes no difference.

Holy crap, the battery is discontinued. What the fuck. I have to buy an entirely new tablet just for this?

Surely if you call Asus, you'll be able to work something out with them?
Damn it. Updated cyanogenmod up to the latest nightly and it fucked my phone up. My keyboard stopped working, my dialer said it wasn't installed any more, etc.
Tried reflashing my gapps and cyanogenmod, and rolling it back go the previous update but it didn't fix it.
Fixed my phone, took a factory reset to get everything working again.
